Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

@Maccy Have you looked into the 997 GTS models? As they are normally very highly spec'ed for the money aren't likely to lose a lot of money in depreciation.
Not really, I think I'd prefer a 4S and there seem to be more under 50k (a rough budget I've plucked out of nowhere) - is the GTS that much better?

Yes, IMO. It has all the best options from the S models but extra tweaks and a power bump.

This sums it all up quiet well.

Ah ok, I didn't realise that there was a GTS and a 4 GTS - I'd prefer the AWD because I've retired from being a driving god sadly.

Yeah, the GTS is a bit more expensive but like RSR says, it has all the best bits standard & a nice little power bump.

They'll hold their value the best as well, they've even gone up in price a bit over the last few months.

A friend of mine is looking to move his well specced white 997.2 when his DBS is ready to be delivered in Sep/Oct if you're interested...

Potentially, the GTS models seem to be upwards of £60k which is pushing things unfortunately. Also I'd have to finance a large proportion of the car so private sales might be tricky.

Finance shouldn't be a problem on a private sale, they will have a few checks more checks to go through to make sure the cars not a lemon or have any past history but people like Oracle finance will be able to help with that.

The first one that you linked appears to have plenty of nice options - sports steering wheel, switchable sports exhaust and hard backed sports seats (really comfortable). Go and have a look at that if it's just down the road.

The 997.2 prices are softening a bit, so they're offering better value than a couple of years ago. There's quite a bit of moaning on the 991UK forums about how the facelifts aren't quite commanding the premiums that they once were over the 997.1's. When I was looking for my car a really decent 997.1 4S wasn't far off £40k. These cars won't depreciate quickly whichever one you end up buying.

Unless you're dead set on the widebody styling of the 4WD, I wouldn't have one over the 2WD versions for safety reasons. With PSM switched on it's very tough to lose your way in the RWD cars unless you're driving like a complete moron... in which case the PSM will kick in and probably save you anyway! The level of lateral grip is pretty astonishing as well as the cornering speeds that can be achieved. A 2WD GTS would be a really lovely car to own and they benefit from the widebody of the Carrera 4 anyway!

I got distracted and started looking at 997 facelifts on autotrader, there are loads of well priced Carrera S cars around and they'll get even cheaper towards the winter time. While the GTS is a lovely prospect and will always command a premium over the "normal" cars, I'd be wary of buying one to try to make money if you're planning to use it. Prices are very dependent on mileage and the GTS will suffer the same way as the non-GTS cars come resale time.

So, my gf bought the 04 Boxter. Had a little go last night, must say I was quite impressed with the handling even in the wet. Hopefully it's better weather today to try it out.

Had an amusing ride out in my mates 991.2 GTS cab yesterday. Holy **** its fast lol. Definitely faster in the mid range than my 991.1 GTS coupe with its NA engine. Theres hardly any concern for gear selection, just nail the accelerator and it goes.

However it sounds nothing like as good... glad i've got .1. Its all whooshes and blagghhhh noises; and theres something about having to "drive" the .1 through the gears which makes it a more special drive. Not sure id buy a new one. Feels like, if anything id get an older one some day as a forever keeper.

Get this bought someone. Known to me it is a fantastic build and 997 GT3 RS pace.
I do't know if there's something wrong with me but i really dislike the front end of a 993 (and i had 2 996's). I love the old school headlight style, the iconic version and thats the way they seem to have gone back too but i just don't like the 993 (apart from that wing, can never have too much wing on awesome cars).

EDIT; wow they've really trimmed some weight off, i bet that's insanely quick.
