Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Last time I checked the 981's are going for a lot more than 20K and the options list is normally what sells the car as they can be exhaustive and expensive.

I’m in no hurry to buy, I realise Porsche’s prices goes up as well as down...I’m hoping it might bottom out a bit more in 12-18months time as I’m in no hurry to buy.

Yep. I've mentioned it on here before but the options go 2 ways, all or nothing. At the lower brackets it will be nothing. I'm talking even the basic steering wheel which is just awful. I paid around 40k for my Boxster but it has pretty much every box ticked.

I know. Mine has every option ticket which came to nearly 30K all on its own.

I guess this is why I have been offered nearly what I paid for the car on the 992 trade in.

I guess it reflects on it’s target demographic, people who can afford it isn’t limited by budget and just go all out, or those who just want to get into one and can’t afford the options, aka me lol

I'm pretty confident the 981 prices will remain quiet strong due to them being the last of the NA generation and my OPC seems to think the same.

That’s what I fear...basically someone at work recently bought a Boxster with a flat 6, heard it in the office when he started the engine, it’s only the 2.7L and sounds glorious.

One can argue the 2.7 engine is the better engine of the two (2.7 / 3.4) as you can to rev it out a lot more often. Ether of them though provide a very sonorous experience which is highly additive.

Ether way the best way to make a call on whats for you is to go and test a few of them, if you can are anywhere near Dorset I can highly recommend my OPC or the other thing id recommend is looking at the PEC at Silverstone.

I’m miles away from Dorset unfortunately, I’m at least an hour away from the nearest dealer.

I can understand that. By the time mine is making the best noises you're bye bye licence speeds!

Friday afternoon car that and shocking service from Porsche!

Clutches and gear boxes made from chocolate and strut tops too weak, seems a common failure across them.

992's have being strengthened but Porsche are refusing any responsibility on older cars, seems crazy as such a failure must be like a write off. I am sure no owner wants to be welding a near new car.

Yeah not good! youd be proper upset if it happened. Seemed like stress fracture or metal fatigue. The new 718 gt model has reinforcement apparently.

It’s gt4 only seemingly and doesn’t effect other caymans or boxsters. Probably due to the harder shorter travel suspension on the gt4.

No excuses but if you check the comments this guy had been fairly abusing the car during a previous track day. Be interesting to see what Porsche do.

May not be a write off as from reading another thread on PH the strut top is actually a part and can be replaced. It’s seperaate from the bulkhead etc. Also it doesn’t effect any other model so 992 doesn’t really come into it.

I had a 981 'normal' boxster as a courtesy car for a few years a couple of years ago. It had the sports exhaust and had pdk, it sounded fantastic and even though the numbers say its slower than the 996 turbo I had at the time it didn't feel it. Imo whatever spec you get, PSE should be on your list of things to get:D.

£20k

The problem is that there is not enough storage to fit a suitcase front or back, especially for 2 people.

It’s probably too soon...

Caymans are surprisingly practical IF your suitcases/ luggage are the right dimensions .I can easily get 2 suitcases stacked one on top of the other in the front boot that would be more than enough for my wife and I for more than a week. That then leaves the rear boot free for anything soft and squashable.

After nearly a year of changing my mind I'm pretty set on getting a 981 S. Whats your opinions on the sport chrono pack? I'm not really looking to track it regulary, more just something fun to drive. Would it make a big difference on normal roads?

I have sport chrono on a 981 S, and on the road, I barely use Sport+, however, from an aesthetic perspective, the clock is far nicer than the big hazard warning button you get otherwise! For me, it's a nice have, rather than a must have and I'd choose a car with PASM over sport chrono every time. I fell lucky and found my ideal spec, with my sacrifice being colour as I wouldn't have chosen black black black, but went with spec and condition, over colour.

Same. Same same same. White.

The Sports Chrono Pack offers the little clock, Sports+ Mode, active engine mounts and a Launch Control from memory, its a quiet expensive option on the S models from memory but its standard on GTS model.

Its worth having IMO as it will aid resale.

Do you guys recommend always go for the PDK over manual? I ask because it seems straight that the GT4 only comes in manual but you can get the PDK lower down.

The gt4 is a track oriented version hence the manual only. The pdk makes every day driving much more comfortable. Plus it's slightly quicker!
