@MrRockliffe - it’s yellow with no roof and a sports exhaust, what else could you possibly need in life?! Be careful with Porsche options as you’ll be forever searching for the unicorn spec while nice cars are bought and sold.

Honestly not a whole lot, but I would like to have fewer miles if I’m spending £35k
Im also more of a guard red kind of person. There was a stunning one for sale for just under 40k, but I’m sure another will come up at some point. I’m in no rush though - I’d much rather wait for the right car.
Really quite hard to describe how bloody awesome of a car it is though.
Sports exhaust can be fitted after I believe if you find the perfect car with out it. I did ask porsche how much it would cost to fit while I was searching for my 981s. In the end I just had cruise control fitted for £550ish if I remember correctly.
Having heard non bose in my bosses old 911, I had it as a must have option, along with sports chrono if it was a pdk and heated seats. I didn't really care about any cosmetic options as I knew I could spend 10 years wanting for the perfect car and was already paying off the loan I accidentally took out...
Guards red is rather nice and after almost 2 years and 9000 miles now I still bloody love it. Nice improvement from the Z4M in pretty much all areas.
Mine was just under 40k on 22000~ miles almost 2 years ago, looking at prices now with 31k on it I could pretty much get the same.

I completely understand this, but remember these are now 10 years old for the early 981s and refined and reliable to be used as an everyday car and many have been. At 50-60k miles, that’s 5-6k per year so not a lot really.
Mines sat on about 54k and still drives the same to me as it did when I bought it 5 years ago.
If you find a well cared for example with the spec you want, I wouldn’t be put off by a few extra miles.
I didn’t want a black one, but ended up with black on black on black as the rest of the car was my perfect spec so the concession for me was colour.

There will be others out there so I’m okay so wait. The yellow one would be too much of a compromise on spec for me - the ONLY thing it really had going for me is the sports exhaust.
It doesn’t have the nav PCM, so you can’t easily put CarPlay in it. No cruise control for longer journeys.
I’ve seen plenty of <30k mile cars, so once I’ve put together some funds I’ll pick one up. Probably the other side of summer though as I imagine prices will begin to rocket soon.
It’s a great place to put your money! All the models you’ll be looking at will have IMS and RMS potential issues and 987s (if you can get one) might score the bores (although lower displacement engines are less prone).
Most will be old and have miles on the clock. The usual suspension, clutch, brake and interior trim wear will apply. Don’t think these are bad for corrosion, but you never know.
I’d get someone who knows the cars to take a good look over anything that you’re considering. A good car shouldn’t cost you too much more than routine servicing if it’s been cherished by a careful owner. There will be absolute nails out there as well!
In summary - buy a good one and enjoy it!

The Z4 is a nice motor, but a very different beast to the Porsche. Good punchy engine though, and great sound.
I've never driven either so wanted to compare and contrast. Also, the hard top / soft top thing might make a difference, some reviews say the Porsche roof isn't great for a day to day car?

Couldn't comment, but the Z4 is decent. Solid car too
My dad has owned one for 4-5 years or so and hasn't needed anything other than normal maintenance stuff
The 911 started developing a knocking noise when turning the wheel today at standstill and low speeds so took it back in for inspection. The offside top mount has got some play in it with both sides having some rust, so going to replace the top mounts and shocks on each side plus check if anything else needs doing. Considering swapping back to the original turbo twist wheels also as the passenger side rear on the Techart is loosing air so booked in at the wheel specialist Monday to inspect and see if it’s repairable as there is a small crack on the rim, state of the UK roads and these 20” with such low profile might not work
A set of P4S in the original size are £930 delivered might go down this route and get them fitted and wheels refurbed at the same time, am very tempted to go with the same look though opposed to original silver.

Took my 996 to my first Porsche meet on Saturday. Nice drive up to Morton-in-Marsh and the Cotswold Barn. Really great turn out, about 60 cars. Mostly 911 GT3s of one flavour or another, a beautiful 964 Ruf, and 2 CGTs.
After having the car for nearly a year now I'm about to get the car booked in for some bodywork - which will basically be close to a full respray to get everything back tip top - and then its off to CG for a full suspension refresh.
My car has the TopGear Sports Silencers and 200 Cell sports cats. Knowing my manifolds will need sorting soon, I'm curious if anyone with a 996 has had a switchable exhaust, and if so what you went for?
I'd love the sound I've got now, but the ability to get back to stock levels for the motorway would be lovely.

Just had my mot failed because of the lambda ... Was it a hard/expensive fix to resolve? (Sorry I know it was 5 years ago)

In fairness, the spyder has a silly roof and is perfect for tucking away until the sun comes out… which isn’t all that often… hence the low mileage I guess?
