Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Rich (BB code):

Joined the Porsche Owners club with a 996 Turbo... need to get 4 wheel alighment done, any recommendations? I'm in South Wales. Car is a manual with 66k miles :)

Also what are the best tyres to get, wheels are 20" Techart, front 2 are worn as the alignment is out but want to replace all 4 at the same time.
Beautiful car, congratulations. I think I prefer the standard wheels but I love the colour and it looks like a great example. It’s actually gotten me looking at these on auto trader

Thank you.

Out of the 16 manual Coupes on there, these 2 look like the best examples to me (I just don’t think they look special in the usual silver, black colours) but you are approaching 996 Turbo S or 997 Turbo prices then although again not many coupe manuals for sale in any decent colour. A manual speed Yellow 996 Turbo was up recently at around £50k with 80k miles but cannot see it listed anymore.

@VTR - car looks great! You need to clean your camera lens next!
Thanks! I know bit annoyed with photo quality! I’m taking it to my usual photo spot tomorrow though so will get some better pictures, camera lens cleaned ;)

Edit - what’s the best image site to post direct high quality photos on here these days?

Pains me to to say this but age is taking over and I fancy a Macan. Any owners with a new one and can comment on the lack of switches and just touch ?

Went to look at a very yellow 981 Boxter S yesterday.

I arrived with my feet planted firmly in the "manual" camp rather than PDK, but left with a foot in each. It's a truly fantastic gearbox and is calibrated so well. I could not get over how quick and effortless the gear changes are. I guess I'd gotten so used to the torque converter feeling.

Beautiful machine though. So rapid, but in a very different way to something which is turbocharged. The sound is intoxicating. Sports exhaust and the PDK is very antisocial and it definitely brings the chav out in me.

However - it's missing a couple of key features for me, namely sports chrono and phone prep, meaning you can't easily add carplay to it. It's also quite high mileage at 65,000 - this is being bought as a garage car with the intention of taking it to Spain/Portugal etc.

Have started my search for a better package, and in the mean time I've put down a deposit on a Fiesta for my other half.

It does mean the S5 is going though - doesn't make sense to run it along side a 981 and Fiesta. The fiesta will be perfectly good for every day driving :)

Nice - I'm now looking at 718's, probably the Cayman. I know the engines don't sound as good but I've driven them in the past and thought it was fine. Shame I can't really stretch to a 4.0 GTS, bit of a first world problem though :p

While the PDK naturally removes some of the manual driving experience, it really changes the experience in a different way - a positive one. It would be my daily car so PDK always a bonus there too.

it's barely updated, still feels pretty dated inside. The cayenne is a much, MUCH nicer place to be.

Test drove a new cayenne hybrid and new macan S back to back, whilst the macan is more fun it feels so dated compared.

I went with PDK over manual in my Cayman S as the gearing is so loooooooong. Didn't regret it as the PDK is probably the best implementation of its kind, just make sure you get the sports steering wheel with the paddles and not the horrible odd 'buttons'.

I'd really be tempted to look at a 981 gen Spyder over a 718 cayman.

Part of the Porsche experience is having a NA 6 cylinder - I really don't think I could get a 4 cylinder Porsche

I wouldn’t be fixed on sports chrono unless you hate the hazard warning button and how that looks without sports chrono.

I have it on my 981 cayman s and would say it’s one of the most useless options it has. Have maybe used sports+ mode a handful of times as it feels like the gearbox is trying to punch the engine through the firewall with the dynamic engine mounts. Fun for maybe 5 mins but I got tired of that very quickly. If you plan to track it regularly then maybe it’s worth it but otherwise I’d prioritise other options!

The size of the Cayman is really OTT for my needs, so is a Macan really i went for a look / Drive in a panamera and it felt bigger harder to drive than the Macan. Should get a 911 but the prices are insane still.

There are definitely other options which are more important to me, but it is on the list.

Heated seats is top of the list - they're not standard! Then it's only really the sports exhaust.

Sports exhaust and pasm were must haves for me along with heated seats and climate control, yes that’s not standard either….. The other thing that makes a huge difference to the feel of the cabin is extended leather dash.

Everyone says Bose is a must have, and whilst I have it, I could absolutely live without it. My wife’s macan just has the standard speakers and it’s great plus the 981s are noisy anyway so I wouldn’t be put off if it doesn’t have Bose.

If you go PDK, the sports design steering wheel with paddles is night and day vs the weird push blocks but is an easy retrofit.
