Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

What's actually happened with the 991 GT3 engine issue/design flaw? Have Porsche resolved it somehow?

They are getting new engines that were planned for the RS. Got a few people I know awaiting their new engines, couple already bailed out of theirs and got their money back.

Is this replacing the Ferrari or is this the new daily?

Get used to it as be good to hear how you feel it compares to the 997 you had a few years back if you can remember. I am finding the new Porsches though technically amazing are loosing some of their character by just making going fast seem less challenging and well to easy. Maybe a sign of the times ahead, be good to hear what you think Dave. :)

Unfortunately it's replacing the Ferrari. I made a very tough decision this week and decided that I needed to focus on my medical degree without the financial distraction (and destruction) a Ferrari can and will bring me. Next service with a couple of items I needed taking care of was going to cost me ~$20k and with the markets being strong in the summer I figured it was either now or never.

I got out for only $10k less than I paid which isn't bad when you consider I put 4k miles on it and *really* used it. That and I don't know if you know how much medical school costs over here, but I could easily afford a brand new 458 for what I'm paying in tuition!

I'll be back in one soon, just needed to evaluate what was important right now and a Ferrari simply isn't. I loved every minute of it and have some spectacular footage I'll be uploading soon of a police escorted rally we did recently where they closed off some of the busiest highways in the state for a group of 75+ exotics doing 150-200+.

Thus far I really rather like it, the dynamic engine mounts are superb and the engine pulls very well with distinct kicks at 5k and 7k. Dealer said the car felt faster than normal so I have no idea if Derek Bell either broke it in well or did something to it!

As a car to drive every day, it's leaps and bounds beyond the old 997.1/2, it's so much more refined as you know. I've not had the time to really push it yet but I'll get it on a track and then give a more accurate comparison with my old 911 when I have real facts in my hand.

Great looking car, that blue with those wheels is so nice!

But those US side markers :( are you going to get some clear ones?

I adore the blue, wanted one in blue for *so* long. I'm painting the wheels satin gunmetal and have already ordered the LED side markers.

Gunmetal should look good also, at least it isn't black :p

Sounds like you made the right move if the 430 was going to cost that much for a service and some parts (headers?)!

No, headers were done last time as part of the $70k bill!

This was going to be plugs, annual, oil/water pump, fixing the broken windscreen defroster vents ($3k to remove the dashboard..), suspension bushings and I think something else. Was going to be $15k minimum, most likely $20k+

I'm o.k with paying those kind of bills but I felt it was a problem I just didn't need distracting me currently.

I'd never pay such bills as I don't like being blatantly ripped off, 3k to remove a dash, does it take them three weeks?

I like it, looks great but when you say so much more refined, is the issue for me, the 911 has being a true sports car, but now seems more grand tourer feel wise but faster than ever and it's easy to access it.

My honest opinion, I think Porsche chased Nissan and lap times too much, yes they are faster than ever, but if someone said to me you can have any a porsche you want I'd choose a 997.2 GTR 4.0 RS and if that was not possible then a 997.2 GT3 and RS if available. The 997's felt alive and it seems the only cars that do that in the new lineup is the Cayman.

Of course this opinion is based from my armchair and being a passenger in a 991. Being a passenger in many a 996 and 997 you can feel it moving around so much and you know it's rear engined. The 991 I passengered in did not have such sensations, it just felt very rapid, but in it's favour it did seem to like a dab of opposite lock, but as a passenger it felt not as communitive. The steering on the new models definetely is not that of the 997, it's good but it's definetely lacking.

Sounds crazy! I guess it is worth it if you planned to keep the car for many years to have it 100% mint but to pay all that and trade it in, no wonder so many used Ferraris (and to be fair, Lamborghinis) are low milage!

How the hell do you afford $500k tuition + multiple houses + supercars as a student?

Unfortunately a lot of this stuff happens over time regardless. Dash vents and shrinking leather is age/climate related, same with sticky switches that plague Ferrari's. Oil/water pumps go at random, my Dad's is on his 3rd and he has 8k miles on his, whereas mine was still on its first at 22k miles.

It's an expensive game with frighteningly expensive parts and crippling labor rates. Dealers over here give you 2 year warranty on the parts if you go with them but at a little over $200 an hour, it can add up very quickly. Removal and reinstall of the entire dash is quoted at a little over 12 hours apparently plus the drilling out of the stupidly designed pins that snap off the vents.

For the moment I'll enjoy the luxury of a 6 year CPO warranty and incredibly cheap servicing and parts (relative) :)

very nice, my 997.2 is going to be picked up tomorrow by the new owner so I am on the lookout for a 991. I may jump into a R8 V10 or a RS TT with a few mods first if I find a good one.

My budget is a little limited and I am struggling to find a good 991 at the moment.

I know two people who are putting their TTRS's up for sale. If you want more info send me a trust message.

RS TT? Seems like a downgrade, if you want straight line speed buy a GTR.

One of my neighbours has just traded his C63 in for a TT RS. Looks nice even with the horrific orange colour it comes in. Not my cuppa at all.

I've driven them and serious gave one some thought as they can be tuned to around 420BHP for relatively little money and are pretty low in weight so are pretty damn rapid, would hand my C2S it's ass let's say that. But to drive I could not believe how freakin dull the thing was, just lifeless and understeer like you could not imagine. Looks ok, great interior, very quick and a nice noise, but excitement and handling are very lacking.

If I ever decide I want all out performance I will buy a 911 Turbo or a GTR, they are faster than a tuned TT RS and have far superior handling and now GTR's you can get a nice UK car for 35k. The TT RS big advantage is far lower running cost, so for the performance on offer it's probably one of the cheapest silly fast cara you can own for the money that looks cool and has a superb interior.

Thanks I will let you know

It is, but it would only be to keep for 6 or so months until I find the right 991. I would probably try and find a Stage 2 TTRS which should be silly fast.

Seems I can't stay away from Porsche. Picked up a 2013 991S with a perfect spec on Friday.

Aqua blue, SPASM, PDK, Sports Chrono, Bose, Premium pack, vented seats and a few more that I can't recall atm.

Definitely even cooler because it was Derek Bell's car (if you're in this thread and don't know who he is, you should be embarrassed)

Awesome, did you get to meet the man himself? I met him ages ago at the FoS when it wasn't rammed with people and you could walk around and have a chat with everyone. Nice bloke.
