Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Hi there

When 911's first came out, N-rating was important, not many cars had such wide rears with all that weight over them.

Now its not so common, some now believe N-rating is just a form of Porsche tax, some still believe they change the spec of the tyre slightly.

Fact is Michelin tested the PSS on Porsche, designed it with Porsche in mind and Porsche themselves fitted it to GT3's and used them at the Experience centre, so they clearly work fine.

On my 911 I've had Pirelli Pzero Rosso (Terrible), Michelin PS2 (very good, average in wet) and now the Michelin SuperSport which is better than the PS2 at everything, dry, wet, wear, road noise, comfort, it is just excellent! Next I am trying Pirelli Corsa System which is a track focused tyre and will then no doubt be back on SuperSports again.

I just had my geo re-checked and slightly adjusted on the 911:-

Running the above, the drive and grip is sublime, no front-end lightness or lack of confidence, just grip and great confidence. :D

My GT3 settings aren't far off and it drives very nicely and a little more planted than standard settings. I run 2 deg front and rear. No toe front and a little toe in at the rear. ARBs both in the middle.

I've increased my front negative camber too -2.00 now, but kept rear at -1.75 and using same toe settings as you, very happy. :)

I have had a change of heart. So after selling my porsche I am going to buy another porsche.

I will go from my 06 to a 09ish PDK. I have found a good one at a really good price but the only problem is that its silver on black again like my one and I was not too keen on that in the first place.

There's pretty decent choice of 09 ish PDK cars, so you should not have to compromise. I think a C2S PDK is one of the best all-round cars available at any price. The car on the Porsche used car locator at Exeter looks lovely!

Yah there are a lot of cars around for sale.

I like the look of this one

I can live without the S however I would want to change the alloys and fit PSE. Love the colour combo and its quite well priced even if its a little over my budget however the lack of bose its a deal killer

Yup, definitely needs alloys and PSE would be nice. I don't see the point with the Bose kit though. 911s suffer from a fair bit of tyre roar, so a premium sound system is wasted in my opinion. Not the mention the extra weight of the amps and extra speakers.

That's a pretty decent price though. OPC Guildford had a basic but nice C2 PDK the other week for £40k. That's a lot of car for £40k and with 2 years warranty...

wow they are coming down. In price. Even the one O posted is very reasonable considering its only got 11k on the clock.

I cant see that being worth less then 30k in 3 years and with another 20k on it.

Spec > Mileage tbh.

I'd feel cheated if I parted with 40k and came away with the base model with no toys, no matter how nice the colour combo, or how low the number on the odometer.

Imo, it's not a decent price, it's (comparatively) cheap. It's cheap because all it has going for it is a late plate and low mileage.

Carrera S with a sickening amount spent on options. Something tangible. At least then if you get bored with it and decide it's not for you, you know it's because it's the wrong car for you, not because you bought the wrong car.

I agree I am not going to get the ideal car in my budget

Goundhog day?

I'd imagine there was more behind the desire to change cars than a different gearbox & touchscreen nav?

I don't have 40k to sink into a car, but regardless, for me it means no (or at least very few) compromises. If you can't afford what you want, find more money in the knowledge (hope?) that in buying the right car you'll keep it for years and it'll be cheaper than losing the time/£xk associated with changing cars over and over, or wait.

How important is the 911 factor? Not being fussed about the S suggests you're not terribly fussed about the power, and the longing for a less involving gearbox suggests it's not about the challenge of taming a RR layout, so iconic profile & history aside, your budget would give you more choice in a Gen 2 Boxster / Cayman S.

Is the PASM really worth it?

For me yes, soft for the road, hard for the track. :)
Sports chrono is a must really too if you like to drive hard, as it dials out the PSM quite a bit letting you have fun.

...and it lowers the car by an inch or two which makes it look much better. :D

Non-PASM cars are fine, but are neither perfect for road nor track. Not that PASM doesn't have it foibles though.

Good point. A more recent Cayman is a properly lovely car and you get a lot of Cayman for £30-40k :)
