Yes but the thing being (if it is a straight rebrand) a user with a 290x and £350 to spend has no option for an upgrade from AMD. Furry will definitely be more expensive than that.

Which Fury? The CLC full edition definitely. One would guess there would be a cut version with air coolers for much less.

They can't 'upgrade' to Fiji? If it's affordable that is.

Everyone has their price range, for most 290X owners its around <£350

280X owners around <£200
270X owners around <£150
260X owners around <£100

Currently they look like this:

290X: £250
280X: £170
270X: £120
260X: £95

For an upgrade path to exists for current AMD owners the price structure would have to look like this.

370X (270X re-brand) £90
380X (280X re-brand) £120
390X (290X re-brand) £200
Fury-Cut £300
Fury-X £400

how likely do you think that is and what will it do to AMD's margins?

Wut? What madness do you speak :D

Fiji would be the upgrade, why would a 290X owner 'Upgrade' to a 390X which now occupy the mid - high slot?

The 280X card target buyers wasn't the 7970, that was the job of 290 / 290X. Likewise AMD Fiji is the upgrade here. 290X now 390X is being move lower down in the tier.

Also why do 290X only have a budget of £350? 290X were more expensive at launch. Have those buyers got a set limit now? :p

I can't wait till launch, it's been long, now peeps are going crazy..

The stack is quite good. It just needs to launch already. Not long now guys. Think I'll leave the thread again for a few days. Nothing good comes from over speculating. We have a fixed date for launch, all we can do it wait. In the meantime loving my Titan X and Witcher 3 !

No idea pal we will see how the Fijis are priced.

Well the rumours so far put the 390x with 8GB at £304 + whatever markup we have for the US to British conversion. So I sincerely doubt that any of AMD's new Halo Furries will be £350.

I paid £320 for my Powercolor PCS+ R9 290, one of the other ones, i think the Tri-X if not MSI Gaming was £300 but i spent that bit more than i initially wanted to because having had a Powercolor GPU before i knew they went that bit extra to make a solid dependable GPU, and the cooler looked big enough to cool a thermonuclear power plant, i was not disappointed and am always ready to recomend Powercolor as a brand.

Like most people i'm not rich with money to burn, £350 is the absolute limit i'm willing to spend on a GPU now.

Someone who spent £400 on a 290X might get a Fury (if they can get one for £400)

Thats about 10% (Don't know) of AMD's market?

What about people like me, what about those who don't want to spend more than £250, or £200 or £100? they have nothing unless.......

well it holds value great and only a 980ti/titanx could beat it so not sure why people even reason the way they do.
Fury is about to hit the market which allows buyers a world class leading entusiast card.

290x ref was £500 at launch. Top tier single gpu at that time, the same all happen this time round. I do understand how people forget previous trends.

Previous top tier will slide down making room for 2-3 new top tier GPUs around the £500 mark.

But it appears if the rumours are true that it isn't going to lower in price, it's probably going to go up.

If the a rebrand is going to work then it should come in at a lower point in the stack, as you say but also at a lower price point, other wise what is the point.

Not long to go now and all these questions will be answered.

There is all the mobile side as well i.e. the GTX2x0m was a fully unlocked G92b chip with 1 or 2GB of VRAM and I believe is being sold as mentioned above as a rebadged desktop 700 series GPU even today - not sure about it being sold as a "780".

The whole mobile chipsets thing i hate with the model generation not being in-line with desktop. I real wish they stop doing that going forward

I think your missing the point, Kaap may have spent £500 on a 290X but the other 95% of us didn't, thats 95% of AMD's user base with nothing other than Nvidia to look to.

If AMD don't understand this then something is very wrong there, or perhaps they just don't have anything other than a damp squib Fiji (if the rumors are to be believed)

Yet we know they do.

2x + the Tessellation throughput.
Delta Colour Compression.
Texture Compression.

All ^^^ will push the performance of a 290X spec card up significantly

AMD's Carrizo APU has a mind blowing 250% performance per Watt increase....

If these rumors are true then AMD chose not to use their existing new technologies.

Or...or the rumors are a nonsense.

Hopefully shortly after release we will get a price war and get a few quid knocked off the higher level cards then everyone can be happy :)
