LOL well done picking out one thing mentioned and automatically assuming that's the only thing they did to improve thermals and power despite them saying they did a lot of work to cut power.

Personally I think they did do quite a lot, perhaps similar to what Nvidia have achieved. My concern would be how much is the GPU more efficient and how much is the HBM memory helping? This will become important next year with the new GPUs because Nvidia will get the same boost from HBM and the gap could increase again. These will be on 16nm new process so lot of things could change.

Well I think it looks great but it was a bit of a none event as there will not be reviews until 24th.

$650 price tag is nice though and brings with it a great card and encourages NVidia to drop the price of the 980ti as well.

I'm going to struggle to justify buying a fury x though as I will need to swap my gsync monitor and unless someone wants to give me a deal I can't refuse on a 4K freesync one then I'm kind of stuck with NVidia.....

So 4GB of HBM then. Have to say I told ya so!

Lets see how good this fury X turns out to be. Interested to see how it responds to overclocking especially the memory.

AMD haven't made a real improvement though, going by the presentation they're just shutting down parts of the GPU when it's able to be shut down (ie when you have v-sync on), if you need all the frames the card is capable of like at 4K it's probably still going to pull a huge amount of power, hence the AIO cooler.

This is why I have a Superflower 1000W PSU which has a fan...that does not spin when both my 290s are sucking 1,000,000W of power out of it :D

If that isn't a hint I don't know what is ;):D

P.S. We AMD owners don't care! It's not like Nvidia cards run on fumes either, I should know, I have one of those as well :D

If the Fury X beats the Titan X and comes in at under 980 Ti prices, Nvidia are in serious trouble.

They're in trouble regardless .. the form factor whilst a non-issue in previous generations is suddenly the elephant in the room. I'm assuming the Fury Nano (as she said significantly faster than 290X) will match or exceed a 980 fairly easily .. whilst being less than half the size. The Fury and Fury X (and obviously X2) are also far smaller ... and NVIDIA probably won't have a dual GPU for Maxwell.

The fury X at 8.6 Tflops that's faster than the titan X which is only 8Tflops.

Edit:

Just checked that is nearly twice as fast as GTX980 that's 4.6Tflops!

So what. T flops means nothing. Go and look at the T flop output of a 290x compared to a 980 / 980 Ti and then look at the gaming performance....

AMD say it's the fasted GPU on the planet, I would say it's a safe bet the TX is beat.

I love the fact they are actively encouraging overclocking and apparently the fury is a beast at it.

Actually no they did not they said it was the fastest card they had ever made and made refrence to the computer with the x2 furry being the fastest in the world. They choose there words very carefully all the way through the presentation.

Kudos to AMD for getting their game on in regards card design, I think I prefer their looks to the reference titan cooler.

Titan cooler still looks good but its been around the block a bit and no longer has a fresh look to it. I'm interested to see what this soft touch stuff is on the fury card, i remember my gtx295 had a strange feeling material at the back of it which could be classed as soft touch (the dual pcb version).

Your misinformed.. Shutting down parts of the core when not needed is not what causes the higher performance per watt.. they are 2 separate things. The cards will be able to perform 1.5 times faster per watt when going full tilt.. 2 times for the nano. Thats pretty well done on AMDs part. Give credit were credit is due friend.

Yet the GPU has 2x8pin and water cooling, lets wait for reviews. So far all we have is a RRP of $650 same as 980Ti, with 2GB less and no evidence that it can beat a 980Ti. Why are people wetting themselves?

It was basically a single card Furyx2 mentioned wasnt it? It wasnt 2 Fury X in Crossfire?

Wasn't entirely clear, I think the first guy talking about Quantum said it was two cards in there, then later on they tried they doubled down and said, it's 2 dual gpu cards. They may have meant 2 dual gpu cards could fit in there.

TO be realistic that top part could easily have 2 x 240mm rads in them for two dual cards and would actually make a bit more sense for the size.

Only interested in 1440 and brill as my tri-x 290 continues to be I might if reviews don't throw any spanners in works get the fury x,just for that bit more headroom to max games out and aim for 60fps as much as possible.
Be interesting if fury x as stated goes on sale 24th how much stock will be around?just hope it's plentiful to help avoid usual UK retailers price gouging such as seen with some of the 980ti's!

Same price as the 980TI in the US, no UK price released yet. Looks to be similar performance for the same price, so i don't see why you should be annoyed.

Exactly. Yeah it's a nice price considering it's watercooled but at the end of the day the in-game performance is what matters.

Even if it runs super quiet and cool but is slower than a 980ti at the same price then how is that impressive?

Maybe we'll see some benchmarks before next Wed :o

649$ is £540 here
