Post your actual energy usage

Last year I used 16KWh of gas and 3.7KWh elec and thats me being really very tight with the heating, I have the thermostat set to 19 max, most the time it was off.

I thought I was doing quite well re the heating bill until I read this thread, my last house (admittidly was much bigger) used ~42KWh of gas a year ! mind you it was only about 2.5p /KWh then.
My bold and underline - I assume these are either daily figures, or you actually mean 16,000kWh gas/year and 3,700kWh elec/year? If it's the latter, you'd have to write as I did, or go to Mega-Watt-hours, i.e. 16MWh gas, 3.7MWh elec.

42,000kWh gas a year at your old house is absolutely eye-watering!! dividing that by my 5,600kWh usage the past year means you were using 7.5x more gas.

Ooops, yes, apologies for the confusion, 16000KWh gas and and 3700KWh electricity annual usage (early morning brain fart when I typed my orignal message, should have been 16K KWh !).
Re the old house, I know, so glad I wasnt paying to heat that last year (4000sq ft Victorian detached) friends with similar properties were paying over a grand a month on gas over winter months.

Back on my current house, over the summer for gas I use around 150KWh per month, thats just heating water, however, in the cold months last year, I peaked around 4000KWh per month.

Around 4000Kwh for electric.
Around 9200Kwh for gas.

Above reflects:
- Work from home
- 2 adults, 1 child
- Home server uses about 1000Kwh a year
- In winter the whole house is heated to 18c 24/7

House is a 4 bed, 2000 build.

Just had my latest energy bill, logged it and Sept 22 to August 23 (12 months):

16,429 kWh gas
8,945 kWh electricity

Which from the previous year gas has reduced significantly and electricity increased a bit from

25,200 kWh gas
8,418 kWh electricity

That's a really good reduction in gas usage. Same house?

Thanks and yes !

The heating used to be on 24/7 on a timer whereas it's been off / on frost mode most of the year since spring - just pop it on now and then to warm through but mainly the two log burners taking upper the grunt

The Mrs (whom is inherently cold) works from home and sometimes uses an electric space heater if her room gets cold. Also probably more EV charging as well

I’m on 5,079.79 kWh gas and 1,173 kWh electricity to the end of September. I seem to have used more electricity compared to the past two years but the pattern seems to be the same. Will probably end up with the same sort of usage by the end of the year.

In rented so can’t do anything to improve efficiency.

5000 kWh for the year for gas is generally good though. I don't use that much but it's more than your figure, maybe 6000 here.

Won't help your electric either, which is pretty low at only 100 per month or so, I'd say you can't really save much vs what you are paying.

The gas is huge in Wh

Boiler is 23 years old, same as the house.
And I think this house isn't insulated that well
Tariff is cheap
Gas = 5.1p unit, 25.3 standing
electricity = 21.3 unit, 23.7 standing

6500kW/Hrs Average for 12 months for me - Just invested in solar and battery system and moved to Octopus Agile, just starting my journey to reduce costs

I must be reading my usage wrong on the Octopus app as the usage seems considerably lower than others.

For September:
200.29 kWh - elec (PC on all day, most days plus TV and consoles in other rooms).
114.60 KWh - gas (central heating is off).

Only been with Octopus since end of May this year but figures as follows:
2023 (May 24)
962.02 kWh - elec
471.70 kWh - gas
