Post your actual energy usage

I must be reading my usage wrong on the Octopus app as the usage seems considerably lower than others.

For September:
200.29 kWh - elec (PC on all day, most days plus TV and consoles in other rooms).
114.60 KWh - gas (central heating is off).

Only been with Octopus since end of May this year but figures as follows:
2023 (May 24)
962.02 kWh - elec
471.70 kWh - gas

No that's reasonable.
3 bed detached. 2 adults, both full time WFH.

The below. Excludes the 50p ish a day standing charge. So add 15 pounds

4 bed detached house.
built around 1910 but refurbed in 2018
2 adults, 2 kids. Adults regularly WFH.
4.1 KW PV array.
ASHP for heating and hot water, plus a Wood burning stove.

Our annual electricity usage is around 7000 - 8000 kwh. No gas and the wood for the stove i've managed to get for free so far.

Each room has a thermostat and it's own UFH loop. Downstairs is at around 22 degrees and upstairs at 18, apart from the bathroom which is 22.5

Nor worth getting onto Go or Intelligent with Octopus? Cheaper charging of the EV if it accounts for a lot of your elec usage.

To be fair,.I have looked into it and no, I do 160-220 miles a week. Probably about £10-15 a week of electric

You offset that for the higher general tarrif and it flows it out the water / significantly more expensive

That said Octopus have bought shell energy so assume ill be moving plans / tariffs when that all comes to pass ....

They have, I said this to a friend of mine but you should consider moving yourself to Octopus, splits a £100 referral thing.

If you wait to move, ya get nothin!

With your usage consider adding solar etc? even without EV your yearly usage seems heavy enough to make good use of it. Smash those panels onto the roof, add a nice bit of battery storage, suddenly Go or Intelligent save you a boat load of cash as you can charge up the battery.

You need a bigger log burner
Ha ha - already have 2 !!

With the kids it's lights, music, hair driers, straighteners, showers (electric)

The washing machine and tumble drier most days (sometimes all day)

Dishwasher twice a day on average

WFH computer / laptop / screens

Numerous brews / kettle

Tortoise basking / heat lamp 12 hours a day

Then TV, showers, induction hob / oven etc etc etc

I don't actually think.its that bad :P

Ha ha we actually removed the panels and inverter when we moved in to make room for the loft conversion and dormers ! :D

My eldest lad and the electric shower, I could have throttled him some days :D

He'd wander into the bathroom, turn the shower on then back to his bedroom for half an hour or more, reappear and get in the shower then stand in it for the best part of an hour, day dreaming before finally having a wash.

Ha ha that's what my two are like

Keep threatening to give them 10 minutes each then flicking the fuse

This is the way.

Exciting news ladies and gents! The results for 2023 are in:

2020:
Gas: 7135 kWh
Elec: 1776 kWh

2021:
Gas: 7821 kWh
Elec: 1474 kWh

2022:
Gas: 6879 kWh
Elec: 1551 kWh

2023:
Gas: 7738 kWh
Elec: 1575 kWh

Think this year was a little bit colder than last year so gas usage has spiked back up to 2021 levels. Seems to be similar usage most years but now costing a lot more. :D

According to my Loop app the electricity cost and consumption for 2023 was £1,482 for 3,938kWh for the year.

Heating oil is a bit more difficult to measure since it's not metered, but going by the invoices it's £2,650 for around 3,700 litres consumed, so about 37,000kWh based on 10kWh per litre.

I blame the high oil consumption on not making use of the biomass boiler as much as we should have, we got a bit lazy with it if I'm honest. Plus it's a large house in the Highlands and it is quite a bit colder than the south!
