Post your bikes thread

How long has your m8 had the Mille?.

It comes down to torque and power delivery, not in a "numbers" sense but the way the RSV puts the power down through the rear wheel.

I have had a few "incidents" in the wet on mine, you just have to be careful and aware of the way it delivers in adverse weather conditions.

I have used Michelin Pilot Powers on mine since they were first on the market and they are an excellent tyre for both fast road use and commuting, even in the wet. No idea about the M1's, never tried 'em.

To be quite honest, I would not be riding at anything approaching a ton in the wet on a Mille, or any other bike for that matter!!!. :p

If your m8 aint had the Mille long, that might explain it. He just needs to get used to it. Even though comparable litre plus inline fours produce serious amounts of torque, a big v-twin does it differently and again to be honest, you cant really appreciate that until you have riden one. Its like starting over again in some respects. To get the best out of them you need to approach them from a completely different angle compared to an inline 4.

By the way, is your mate on any of the Aprilia forums like RSVR.net, Bikers Oracle ( with all the other loonies, including me!!! :p ) or AF1, the US site?.

Nice classic there, VR!!.

Always meant to get around to buying something like that but I just know it will end up sat in the garage and not moving as I simply havent got the time to ride one bike, never mind two!!.

Can anyone spot the deliberate mistake on my Brembo wheels on the Mille?.

Been meaning to sort it for ages, just never got around to doing so. ;)

No he has not had it long .. First big twin he has had. I dont think its the tyres as he has them all rippled on the edges in the dry and he cant half chuck it about so i guess you can only put it down to being not used to it (in the wet)

Trouble is when its not spinning it up its wheeling and its sounds lovely although he sold the blueflame that came on it and but the standard cans back on .

Might be tyre pressures as he had not checked them for 3 weeks so may have been running a little lo .

Will have a chat and see if he is on any of the apprila forums .

Persil

Get him to check his tyre pressures.

As I have said, I dont know much about the M1's, having never tried them but when I first had the Mich Pilot Powers fitted to my bike, I ran around with 36 front/42 rear as per the Aprilia manual.

The Pilot Powers are designed to run at substantialy lower pressures on the road. I now run mine at 32 front/36 rear and the improvement in handling is just amazing. The M1's may well be the same or similar. I'll see what i can dig up as far as info on what pressures to run with them and post back as I know a few Mille blokes who run Metzelers.

And yeah, thought as much. If he aint had it for long he really needs to get used to it. What bike did he have before?.

As far as the forums are concerned, if he's on any of the ones I already mentioned which are pretty much the "big 3" for Mille owners, tell him to look out for RSV_Ecosse on them. I post on all three under that username.

Never had any traction problems on my SP1, I have Diablo Corsas fitted and a few weeks ago in that wet period we had I was riding home one night a bit bored so I was playing around, 1st/2nd gear 4k rpm then just pinning the throttle open, water logged and pretty cold....best I could get were wheelies!

Anyway heres mine:

firefox - looking at getting an 07 rl myself, looks stunning. what do you think of it? first impressions ect

I sold my 03 R1 to buy the 07, first impressions are it isnt quite as strong below 4500rpm, its a bit stronger after 5000rpm but when you get to around 9000rpm its in a different league, way way quicker than my 03.

Cornering as you would expect is superb, its totally planted, the brakes are amazing, I thought my 03 had great brakes.

The bars are a lot lower than my blade so its a little uncomfortable on the longer journeys but I will adapt.

The induction roar from the engine is something you have to hear to believe, sounds like a F1 car when you open it up. :)

On my test ride I remember thiniking this bike is going to kill me LOL, no other bike has had that affect.

As long as you show a LOT of restraint you will be ok, this bike demands a lot of respect.

cool. going to go and try one in the next couple of weeks myself. currently got a hayabusa so used to plenty of power, but i dare say that the r1 is a probably more urgent at certain revs than the busa.

the comfort is one of the concerns that i have as i use the bike every day and the busa is great threw town. but im sure id adapt to the r1. lol

Going to book in to do my CBT on 06/04, theory test after that then DAS so I should not be far behind you myself :D

Stu

Managed to get my theory test done last week, and I got my practical test booked for Thursday 5th April. So shouldn't be long now :D

Finally ditched the rear pillion hangers/pegs and stuck a titanium race can hanger on to compliment the Blueflame exhaust.

And yes, thats a brand spanking new tyre on the rear, a Mich Pilot Power 2CT, fitted 20 mins before, hence the HUGE chicken strips!!!

Apologies for the quality of pics, taken on my K750i mobile:-

Here's my absolute favourite bike that I own, which might seem odd to some as I have some newer bigger bikes.

This was my first sports bike, my KR1-S 250.

The ride is great, 2 stroke engines are simply awesome :)

I'd really like an Aprilia RS250 at some point, but I'll never sell my KR.

And these Mag-Tek lightweight Magnesium wheels:

Being rebuilt atm, but hopefully have it this month.

[EDIT: Really like your KR1-S mate, it's nice to see another classic 2-stroke about. I nearly bought one the same colour in the early 90's, ended up with an RGV instead. I've had various diesels (4-strokes ;) ) over the years but had to get another 2-stroke!
