Post your bikes thread

I like my Bandit and my Jeep too :p

Well, the Bandits are good bikes. This is my third in a row believe it or not!

They are fast enough to be good fun, and can do a lot of miles if you want them too. I worked in a bike shop for best part of 14 years and we used to see quite a few 1200 Bandits with 60,000+ miles on them in for servicing.

I like the 5 gears and the oil cooling, I'm a simple soul :) I plan on riding it down to Spain next year, did it before on a ZX-9R with a few mates on GSXR1000's and R1's, this time I'll take it a little bit slower.

The Jeep is a superb car in my opinion.. I'm a shooter by the way, and the Jeep is a comfortable car that runs on petrol so you dont get beat away from the lights by some spotty in his Clio, but it's still quite capable for trundling over cows fields to the barley etc :) Only trouble with it is its insane appetite for petrol, but I've no-one to blame for that but myself, after all I bought it.

200 miles on the Bandit recently cost me £19.00 more or less, 203 miles in the Jeep cost £53.50!!!!!

Bearing in mind that you used to work in a bike shop, what is your opinion on Honda motorcycles. I've read that Honda are consistently more reliable than any other motorbike out there; would you agree with that?

Because they are so boring nobody rides them more than 10 miles thats why they last...

*Hides* :D

They are mostly reliable bikes of course, and nowadays they make some fine engines, but I dont think they are more reliable than others. I'm quite an old bugger and have been riding since 1980 when I was sixteen.

In that time I've seen particular favourites like the chocolate camshafts of the VF750, the insane cam chains on the CB900 (if left unadjusted could wear through the front of the barrels given time!) and the staggeringly unreliable rectifier/regulators fitted to CBR600/VFR750s etc from the early '90s to the early 2000's.

Then you get absolutely perfect specimens liek the CBR400RR Gull Arm, sounded and went like clockwork (but still popped rectifier/regulators !)

My 1996 CBR900RR-T I remember was an excellent bike, the last of the fox-eye style but with the later 918cc engine. I used to think whats that odd ticking noise at low revs? We had loads and loads of 899cc and 918cc blades, and a lot of them made this noise. I went on a crusade to find out what it was, eventually tracking down a geezer at Honda UK who said it was piston slap because of the short conrods, it wouldnt damage the bike, but there was nothing you could do about it, other than fit a louder exhaust :p Oh, and he made me promise not to tell the customers ... :D

So, in short, are they inherently more reliable? God no. Some engines are better than others, right across the makes.I reckon you cant go wrong with an oil-cooled Suzuki, personally though :)

Hondas ARE better finished that other bikes though, no doubt. They drip quality in my opinion. My Bandit goes rusty if you leave a bucket of water next to it ...

Do you remember the pre 1981 cx500 cam chains lol they would eat away the crank casings iirc honda recalled and had new cam chain adjusters fitted i owned 2 in my time not sure why :D we used to call them plastic maggots.

My main bike, a 2002 St1100Abs owned since new
