hi there guys,

I'd like to hear your opinion on my FTTC line stats, just to give you a bit of background...

Had the service installed on Jun 12th, started perfect, i have the 40/10 w/ Sky, 39996/9996 sync, ping 12ms, happy. Then on sunday 16th connection went down for like 10 mins and when it came back DLM kicked in and lowered the speed to 27400 / 9996.

....long story short, i had a BT engineer check the line on the following wed, said everything is OK, he checked the sync with his tool and it shown 35000 and during these past weeks connection improved, speed changed a bit, I have restarted it maybe just once (so it was up for 28 days which i thought was the logging period as the BT guy said b4 they reset stats...) first ping changed, then download speed a bit, then upload, then right now it seems to be stuck on the following 35000 / 9996 and 13ms ping which is actually good and very stable, solid.

However, i'd like to understand why i am not getting the 39996 i had before, some people said sometimes DLM recovers in UP TO 6 weeks, but is that a myth or is really like that?

Interestingly, i am 150mts walking distance from the nearest BT fibre cabinet, no strange plugs or extensions and the BT engineer also told me "you should get good speed indeed", and i often walk past it just behind the corner

BTW i removed QoS as someone suggested here and had a nice boost in the upload, nice trick!!!! Is there any drawback by doing so?

here are my stats:

when i look at the MAX speed the line supports, it doesn't look great since im so close to the cabinet, what is your diagnosis? bad cables?

- these stats are from this morning, i just rechecked them now and this is what i get, apparently showing that is going up slowly?

Max: Upstream rate = 10978 Kbps, Downstream rate = 46852 Kbps
Path: 0, Upstream rate = 9995 Kbps, Downstream rate = 35000 Kbps

- as you can see from the stats, i had restarted the BTO modem this morning

- since the last engineer visit on june 19 (he went to the cabinet, he did "something", DSL light and phone went down like 5 minutes), i have restarted it just a few days ago (so it stayed up like 4 weeks), i just did a "reset" with the button to see if things would change but no

thanks a lot guys!
Gabrio

With your line attenuation as low as it is across all the bands I'm surprised by the low sync. I would say your D side (line) is no more than 200 meters in length and should be up for a bit more.

You have 8.5dB SNR margin which is a big higher than expected and should be around 6.

I would say the engineer you had was one of the many useless ones that BT employ and doesn't have a clue, I would bagger sky for a resolution.

Here is the stats for the first 15 lines on park...
We have lines between 700m and 1200m - all running on profile 17a.
We have capped people for now at 50Meg although realistically at these distances only a couple of these people could exceed that.
We have managed to get a 700m line on 75Meg Down / 17Meg Up but put it back to 50 for now...
A few nice suprises we've had...

1100m line synced reliably at 50Meg Down / 7Meg Up
1170m line synced reliably at 48Meg Down / 6.8Meg Up..

COmments welcome!

very nice, what kind of DLM if any are you running on your cabs?

nice

Did you force the update or was it via BT agent?

Also I've read that cabs them selves are getting firmware updates too?

tbh I'm so close to the cab it would just increase my attainable rate, so no real drama.

Has anyone tried the new MK2 VDSL face plates yet?

They are new spec for 17a and 30a and have RIEN and RF filters in them.

They are on ebay right now and BT installers are using them.

From what I gather they have made improvements to peoples connections some say they gained another 2meg.

Just had my sky fibre connection go live today, syncing at 40/10 but getting 18/10 on various speedtest sites.

My stats are below...

Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 39998 kbps 9999 kbps
Line Attenuation 7.8 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 25.9 dB 31.31 dB

Any idea what sort of speed i should be able to get when DLM finishes its initial run?

There is nothing wrong with the connection from you to the cab very good stats. As you say there is a problem with throughput.
