Post your hard drive benchmarks!

I'm pretty certain there was nothing else running at the same time, but no, I didn't run it again, I should have done really. :o
I'll have another bash tonight, it's not like it takes long, and if it is still poor then I could give safe mode a try.

The new hard drive is arriving on Wednesday any way so it's getting replaced no matter what happens.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache on ICH7R cont:

Very impressed with this HDD, almost 7MB/s faster (Average read) than my 74GB Raptor (8MB cache), and 6MB/S faster (Average read) than my 320GB Seagate Barracuda SATAII 7200.10 in HDTach. ;)

I have 2 x 74GB Raptors (8MB cache) in RAID0, on an ICH7R cont, and in HDTune I am getting an Average (read) of 115MB/s +, so I would have expected your 2 x 150GB raptors to have gotten over 115MB/s Average (read), unless your cont. is on the PCI. :)

Controller* is on PCI. However 74Gb and 150Gb raptors with same cache should perform the same since as I was just reading they are the same data density and the 150Gb has 2 platters vs 75Gb 1 platter. Id suggest using the inbuilt screenshot button of HDtune much better than taking a desktop shot which either gets reduced in size and its to hard to read or it throws the forum margins off. :p

Does this all look correct? just a single drive no raid or anything. It's 67.5 and 13.3 on hd tach but only did the short test.

I've got a pair of raptors raid 0 and I get great sustained in hdtach but poor burst. I set the stripe size wrong and I'm going to have to rebuild to change it (set to 4kb and should have done 32) - would that account for the poor burst?

That ,and I need to turn off NCQ it appears from this thread...

This is messed up whats wrong with this ? (machine is a shuttle XPC)

Here's the primary IDE : (Acceptable for what it is)

Here's the secondary RAID0 array : wtf is going on here ?

Here's the same array with same disks / stripset etc in a different machine...

Whats going on ?

dont diss my poor seagate :P I know it sucks but hey.

I have got 2 of them but havent got round to setting them up.

My bootup shows it as a IDE 133 HDD, so this maybe affecting speed

please bear in mind that 12 internet explorers, limewire, paint, avg and lots of other stuff was running. Probably dosnet affect it but limewire and some stuff was writing to hard drive, and avg was doing a scan check :O

Is just the HDTach results alright?

I dont see how different programs can give different results? whats the most acurate program?

I've always used HDTach.

both are just synthetic tests which does not simulate real-life situation. So cant really tell which is better or more accurate.

First RAID0 setup for me. Not sure that it's doing its job yet. Can you check this out please? Asrock 939Dual m/board with 2xSpinpoint T 320GB 16Mb. Can't see NCQ style options, except for "Disable tagged queueing" and "Disable synchronous transfers". These are SATAII on SATAI ports.

You need to go to computer management for the options, if you have them.

on the port controller (nvidia sata in my case) right click, go properties, click the correct tab and deselect the ones you need to. :)
