I haven't uploaded any photos in ages, so here's a few. If some of the shots imply that things are not level, that's purely because I couldn't be bothered to straighten up the visual bend that was introduced by using a wide angle lens.
Right front speaker and the new power amp (Impulse Ta'us 3 way horn loaded speakers and Bel Canto Evo2):
A closer shot of the power amp in situ:
The amp uses a tripath 3020 chip, so runs cool, hence why it's OK to give it far less breathing space than I'd allocate to say a valve amp.
Here's the rear of the lounge:
The sofa is actually a 3 seater width, fully reclining and very comfortable. The rear effects speakers are Kef Egg 301s.
The ancient Sony laptop was a freebie as the battery is dead. For all that, it's powerful enough to host SqueezeCentre and is linked via ethernet to my SB touch.
The Quadraspire stand hosts the sources, ie. SB Touch for music and PS3 for video, TV and games:
At the bottom of the rack (not visible) is the power amp for the rear speaker (Rotel RB971) and the Welbourne labs PSU For the SB Touch.
Next to the Touch is my headphone amp, which is a Little Dot iv valve unit:
And last but certainly not least, the bit that pulls all of the digital sources together, my Meridian processor:
The dust isn't so apparent when just looking at it, will deal with that shortly.
So in short, a very normal rectangular lounge, with a fairly reasonable system.
The only unit talking to my Panny AE1000 1080p is the PS3 via HDMI. The room is painted in Dulux greysteel 3, which is basically white, but with a light grey tint. Hard to see from the photos and also when you're sat in the room. However, turn the projector on and the tint massively improves contrast ratios.
Cables are from a variety of groups. If you're skeptic, don't even bother reading the rest of this, it'll only incite you to post something that you can't back up, as you've never heard my system. The HDMI is boggo standard 3m, the optical SPDIF cable from the PS3 is Wyreworld glass, coax spdif by Zanash, interconnects to the LDiv are also by Zanash, balanced cables from the Meridian to the BC are Audio Technica, speaker cables by Coherent systems, and the power cables to the BC and Meridian are also by Coherent.
Headphones are not on view, but are a pair of Sennheiser HD600s, which work very well with the Little Dot iv.
To pre-empt two of the obvious questions, nope there is no sub or centre in the room.
I've tried a variety of centres and haven't found anything that matches or is in the same league as my front stereo speakers. I'm sure that something "might", but I've given up looking. I'd rather spend the dosh on something that will add value.
As for the missing sub. The fronts go down to 26hz at -3db, so are capable of competing on their own with most of the cheaper subs for depth. More importantly, what I've heard over the years has led me to believe that integration into a system is VERY difficult to do, particularly so for stereo music. My goal is music capability first, then if it can also happen to deal with AV, that's cool. Certainly doesn't sound rubbish with films. So I'm loath to spend serious money on a sub that might well end up turned off for music and probably just end up annoying the neighbours during noisy films.
