Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Very nice, JLT is actually quite nice once you're above ground level, you must be quite close to the Bonnington too? Is that the springs you can see behind jlt?

hey man, actually JLT coming along nicely on ground level too. The landscaping is done in many areas. Bonnington and the Irish pub is a 5 min walk around the lake.. very handy!
View is Emirates Golf course, The Lakes, Springs, Meadows etc etc.

My first set up since I moved out of my Parents.
LG 50PK350
Onkyo HT-S5305
B&W 602 S2
Sky+HD
PS3
POS Sky Router

First home cinema I have ever properly experienced, had it since July 2010, best money I've spent. Ever.

How do your eyes cope being that close to the TV?!

Got the same TV and very happy with it for the money, nice looking set up :)

I haven't uploaded any photos in ages, so here's a few. If some of the shots imply that things are not level, that's purely because I couldn't be bothered to straighten up the visual bend that was introduced by using a wide angle lens.

Right front speaker and the new power amp (Impulse Ta'us 3 way horn loaded speakers and Bel Canto Evo2):

A closer shot of the power amp in situ:
IMG_0232.jpg

The amp uses a tripath 3020 chip, so runs cool, hence why it's OK to give it far less breathing space than I'd allocate to say a valve amp.

Here's the rear of the lounge:
IMG_0245.jpg

The sofa is actually a 3 seater width, fully reclining and very comfortable. The rear effects speakers are Kef Egg 301s.
The ancient Sony laptop was a freebie as the battery is dead. For all that, it's powerful enough to host SqueezeCentre and is linked via ethernet to my SB touch.

The Quadraspire stand hosts the sources, ie. SB Touch for music and PS3 for video, TV and games:

At the bottom of the rack (not visible) is the power amp for the rear speaker (Rotel RB971) and the Welbourne labs PSU For the SB Touch.

Next to the Touch is my headphone amp, which is a Little Dot iv valve unit:

And last but certainly not least, the bit that pulls all of the digital sources together, my Meridian processor:

The dust isn't so apparent when just looking at it, will deal with that shortly.

So in short, a very normal rectangular lounge, with a fairly reasonable system.
The only unit talking to my Panny AE1000 1080p is the PS3 via HDMI. The room is painted in Dulux greysteel 3, which is basically white, but with a light grey tint. Hard to see from the photos and also when you're sat in the room. However, turn the projector on and the tint massively improves contrast ratios.
Cables are from a variety of groups. If you're skeptic, don't even bother reading the rest of this, it'll only incite you to post something that you can't back up, as you've never heard my system. The HDMI is boggo standard 3m, the optical SPDIF cable from the PS3 is Wyreworld glass, coax spdif by Zanash, interconnects to the LDiv are also by Zanash, balanced cables from the Meridian to the BC are Audio Technica, speaker cables by Coherent systems, and the power cables to the BC and Meridian are also by Coherent.

Headphones are not on view, but are a pair of Sennheiser HD600s, which work very well with the Little Dot iv.

To pre-empt two of the obvious questions, nope there is no sub or centre in the room.
I've tried a variety of centres and haven't found anything that matches or is in the same league as my front stereo speakers. I'm sure that something "might", but I've given up looking. I'd rather spend the dosh on something that will add value.
As for the missing sub. The fronts go down to 26hz at -3db, so are capable of competing on their own with most of the cheaper subs for depth. More importantly, what I've heard over the years has led me to believe that integration into a system is VERY difficult to do, particularly so for stereo music. My goal is music capability first, then if it can also happen to deal with AV, that's cool. Certainly doesn't sound rubbish with films. So I'm loath to spend serious money on a sub that might well end up turned off for music and probably just end up annoying the neighbours during noisy films.

yep, I had it in storage for ages along with some tapes and haven't got around to checking them yet as I need some scart to component cables (which have been ordered). I don't have high expectations, but I let you know as soon as teh cables turn up.
edit: cables arrived today so I shall test tonight :)

edit2: well it was pretty disappointing. Perhaps it can be improved by some video settings on the Denon, or by cleaning the VHS's heads. But it was rather like watching through a snowstorm. Audio was not bad though. But I dont think i'll be leaving this connected unless I am feeling particularly nostalgic some time ;)

how did we ever manage eh? :)

I noticed you have the S5305, I bought the S3305 last year, very pleased with it. Am I right in thinking you're still using the original Onkyo speakers for your rear surrounds? If so, which speaker stands are you using? Just what I need :)

those stands look like my ones, atacama nexus 6..

My setup:

B&W 685
Beresford Caiman DAC
A laptop
NAD C352

It isn't set up next to a TV, but great for listening to music :D

Just got my Monitor Audio RX Centre to match my front L & R.

I need the rears now to complete my setup. All powered by the fantastic Onkyo 609, with BK XLS200 adding the LFE.
Sorry for the rubbish iPhail pic.

Nice one Nick. Loving my RXs and im sure you are too! Which will you use for rears?

and yeh, colour choice is a bit wierd, were you going for that look or did they not have the centre in light Oak? I had a lot of issues getting them all in the same colour, had to be patient while they ordered the centre and RX8s in.
