Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

I wouldn't even want a tv if I had a view like that!

I'm not very familiar with Dubai. Are you anywhere near the burj al dubai?

From memory it's near the sea

There's 2 places called 'Burj':
Burj al Arab (sail hotel), I'm about 5km from it, if I was on the side of the building with a sea view i'd be able to see it.
Burj Khalifa (world's tallest building), I'm about 15km from it but I can see it from my balcony if I lean out

I was referring to the worlds tallest one! Can't be bad looking out at all that!! Very jealous :)

Really? I would have assumed landlords are creaming it in. I do no they are in the North East UK. Sunderland / County Durham / Newcastle / Washington areas.

I'm not sure how factually correct this is, but there's often been criticism that Dubai is full of half empty towers, as they've build so much so quickly that there's currently far more places to live than there are people. Hamish lives in an area populated by the tallest collection of apartment blocks on the planet, which still has new (taller) buildings going up:

...someone gimme a job? I'd live there! :D

Here's the view to the left, 34th floor (of 82)

I'm green with envy. If I may ask are you a native of Dubai or an immigrant?

And if an immigrant what's you opinion of Dubai?

I've heard mixed things about the place. Some say it feels very artificial there and it's not a nice place to live. Though from what i've seen about it on TV it looks pretty awesome. Far better than england with all the crime/chavs, ect.

I'm an ex-pat, from York originally.
Dubai is great as long as you don't expect it to be like the UK. It's a Muslim country in the middle east that was just a few villages in the desert less than 50 years ago, so it hasn't had the chance to mature in the same way europe has, however it is getting closer.
On the plus side there's no Tax, petrol is 30p a litre, there's 360 days of sunshine a year, If I left my wallet on a table in a bar and went away for half an hour I wouldn't worry about losing it - there's zero crime. I live 30metres from the beach. Cars are cheap - Porche 911's are about as common in Dubai as Mondeos are in the UK. There's so much more to do on the weekend, bars on the beach, offroading, golf, wakeboarding, camping. It makes the UK seem mundane... However people rarely stay here more than 5 years as it's too 'unreal'. Personally I love it but i've only been here a year.

I have been here since 2006 and would never want to in back to the UK.

Just as well OCUK ship to here though as the local hardware shops are very limited.

Btw. I think we need a Dubai thread in the general section as there seems to be some interest here :)

+1 with all you guys posting pics of dubai.

I've just quit drinking alcohol, is dubai a good place to go where you can be sociable and not have to drink alcohol - and more importantly not have shoved right under your nose to tempt you like in the UK?

Also does it get to hot in the summer? a lot of arabs fly to london over the summer with there lambos, bugattis and ferraris and I was told it was to get away from the heat.

EDIT

Started a thread on Dubai in GD :-

Well it is a largely Muslim country so there's a lot of non-drinkers, but if you're a brit and hang around with brits, brits will be brits and there can be a lot of drinking and brunches involved.

And yes it does get very very hot in summer, for about 3-4 months of the year it doesn't drop below 40c, even at night. People tend to stay indoors, go to the malls and visit home, for the other 8-9 months the weather is perfect heat and sunshine with maybe 2 days of rain.

As I was taking pics of my damaged speakers today, thought I'd take a shot of the whole setup, even though it's not finished yet. Also I've moved all the equipment out of the cupboard for better ventilation as it has been quite warm over the past week. So usually everything is hidden apart from the centre speaker, I also have the excellent QA speaker bracket for it which I haven't got round to puttting up yet.

As you can see I haven't got round to routing the power cable for the TV either. A fairly easy job as there's room to feed it in the wall where the HDMI cables are. Also the speaker cables aren't hidden away as I'm not still 100% of their final placing yet.

The BK subwoofer which packs a serious punch that's even more amazing considering the small size of it. Nice finish on them aswell, anyone looking for a sub should give the BK range serious consideration. I can't recommend them enough.
