Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

Defo need 55"+, 65" would be ideal for that space :)

In fact at that distance with a 70" screen you'd get maximum benefit from 1080p content :)

Would you mind explaining that to the wife? :D

I'll be getting into all sorts of trouble at this rate :)

If I go for it,should I still be looking for Panasonic Plasma? The LED looks ok until you turn it on, and I have a lot of screen glare as you can see.. so rather get away from LED next time.

cheers

Those ultra thin mounting kits are not very secure afterall.. and I do have a rampaging 2 year old in the house.. ;)we will see. Going to start researching a bit now. I did go and have a quick look but didn't see anything of a decent size for less than 3k.

Ezah, I'd have at least a 90" projector screen there. Just roll it down for films, they can be hidden away very nicely when not in use. I have a 60" screen at about 2m and wish I could fit bigger in.

The projector route looks like it would cost in better, but my reservation is running the cables through the ceiling without making a pigs ear of it.. I am in a flat so I cant tackle it from the room above. I either have to find a professional installer or go for something like a shelf mounted PJ. I might consider this when I renovate my flat ,or just find a 60" TV.

thanks for all the input! Its got me thinking now :)

or a smaller AV cabinet!

Thats a 46" screen, and my room is only 4m wide from screen to sofa, so I am not sure its enough space for a projector.. a 55" would do nicely though once my missus forgets about the AVR purchase :)

Actually I think if the TV was higher it would not look so small because at the moment the unit/speaker and TV looks like one if that makes sense.

Ezah, 13TB in the home server, how have you got that set up with WHS? Which version? Do you have is mirrored etc?

Sorry, I miscounted.:o. its 11TB so far.. 4 x 2TB and a 3TB in the Optical bay.
They are all layout:simple, type:basic and no mirroring.

WHS2011 v.6.1

I can show you the disk management screen if you need it.

No worries, so if you lost a disc you would lose the data?

I am paranoid that if I lose a disk I will lose 2TB of ripping and that is not a small job, Ive built this up over a year!

yes exactly.. the time lost would be the problem, Smaller amounts of personal files (photos etc) are backed up and stored elsewhere, but the media on the server is the concern.

I guess I would need to buy another microserver, stick 15TB in it and setup a regular backup between them.. (possible to configure in WHS?).. if this could be off-site all the better, but I think thats expecting too much.

Still need some decent wallpaper up. But getting there....

In WHS V1 I use file dupliaction that has 2 copies of each file across multiple disks.

Having a server with media on thats not backed up or at duplicated is barmy:eek:

I will be retiring my WHS V1 machine soon and going windows 8 ,parity and storage spaces.

WHS 2011 doesn't have this feature and is a poor choice for a lot of data imo.

Hi guys,

A few pics on a "man cave" i set up in the spare room. Mainly used for gaming and movies.

I have not spent a huge deal on top end items, i kitted out the whole room for under 1K.

Trying to measure up throw distances and things and decided to clear out the room and set out to plan my 1k budget.

After research, the Optoma Projector seemed the best "budget" PJ that works well for short throw.

Ikea sofa seemed the best option at the time (This is being replaced with a leather sofa at the end of Jan, to be quite honest i'd rather sit on the floor than keep this !

Back of the room. Basic sofa from Ikea. In the middle is a black stand where the PJ is.

A little mood lighting for when there's just music playing and im chilling with food/drink.

Under the main screen area we have a black Ikea storage table to match the one where the PJ is. There is a PS2 and Xbox 360 here with all the games/movies.

I use a Sony 3D Bluray player which also decodes the video/sound and outputs video to the PJ.

120" image used at the moment (can't get any bigger) It's fantastic for gaming/movies :)

Nothing much will be changing. I'd mount the PJ on the ceiling when i get my own house as this is a rented flat and don't plan on being here long term so rather not start drilling holes! Will custom build a screen to in the future.

Living room set up quite basic and simple (how i like things) Just an old Sammy 40" screen, SKY and a bluray player. Next to it is where i am sitting now, my PC ect is all in here. This closes when PC not in use and it hides everything away :)

Nice.. I've cut holes in the back of mine and slid the AVR and HTPC straight through. It does make for easy access to cables and better ventilation though :)

I never considered the length of the AV kit when I bought that Ikea..I was more concerned about keeping my baby out of it.

Camalot - great little room there.. must be fun for gaming :)
