Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

with xbmc do i need a PC hooked to my TV? i cant stream that interface tot he TV can i over ethernet? i have a samsung smart TV.

If your PC is not physically connected to the TV or your AVR then I dont think you can use XBMC on the TV

You can stream from a remote PC to a Smart TV over DLNA (using samsungs default software, Mezzmo, Plex etc) on a wireless or wired network.. but if you want the XBMC interface on your TV you will need a colocated PC with HDMI connection to the AVR or TV (AVR is preferred of course)

Most people use an HTPC or an XBOX connected to the TV I guess for XBMC duties.

I hate to say it but why would you spend 1500 on a tv unit and only 150-200 quid on a budget amp.....

If and when I upgrade my denon 3803, to actually.upgrade the sound or get like for like, I need to be llooking at a denon 3312/ 3313 or onkyo 818 ish.

Don't get me wrong tour set up is nice :-)

Well i've got my new toy. Its a 47" Panasonic DT50

Annoyingly Panasonic no longer do a Plasma in 46" so i had to go LED (couldnt fit in a 50" GT50 even though it would've been cheaper)

Watched a film earlier and it seemed pretty good though, certainly much more detailed than my old Panasonic P42X10.

Also heres my new HTPC (along with the Revo for another room)

This thing is superb, so fast at everything it does. Just need to sort out a remote for it now.

All you guys with projector setups there is a new mix of paint that helps with quality called black widow. It's white paint with a mix of something else.. I think over at AV Forums there is a discussion about it...

I'm about to do some research about it to have one wall skimmed / re-painted with black widow + black border.

Yeah I have come across this also - I believe it uses aluminium in the compound. I guess the idea is the grey colour rather than white will dull the whole thing down to give better blacks and then the aluminium for reflectivity maybe?

Right I was hassled the other day by Mr. Howard to pop my set-up into this thread so finally having a chance to be in my house in daylight I thought I'd take a couple of pics.

Front of the system in 'day-time' mode. B&W 604i (from about 1993, LOL), B&W CC6 centre, Velodyne 1215 (also from a previous century!) and a low end Samsung LED 32". I only fairly recently shuffled my system around so the equipment wasn't under the TV so I'm still looking out for a suitable smaller TV unit.

And the rear of the system, my Epson EH-TW3200, Monitor Audio BXFX, and in the background a Panasonic BD35, Onkyo TX-NR809, and Apple TV 3rd gen. I watch and listen to 90% of stuff through the bluray player or iPad and the rest through the Apple TV.

I haven't totally blacked the room out so you get an idea of the size but that is in 'night' mode and I currently use a no brand motorised screen from eBay - it currently does the job but I am currently looking at possible replacements to this as since upgrading to a 1080p projector its being shown up a little!

Well worth going for a projector with optical adjustment - you can totally adjust the image geometry without sacrificing picture quality :) (within reason)

My Heath Robinson job at fitting the projector on an Ikea floating shelf. I do need something a little more permanent however this has been doing the job for 3 months now!

The other thing I couldn't really photograph is the canvases on the walls are made from a lightweight cotton fabric which has allowed me to mount some Auralex foam behind to kill the room down a little.

Some seriously nice setups here - will post pics of my updated kit as soon as I've re-hung the door to the AV cabinet. We went from an open Lack bench which did a great job of keeping cables hidden and tidy to a 60cm width Besta cabinet with door - protecting my gear from inquisitive little fingers! Cable routing was a nightmare, but once again, spiral wrap saved the day!

Positioning of the front highs isnt ideal, but I am unwilling to have wires on view up high and thats a concrete wall, so burying them not an easy option.
