Stu, have you ever considered using your RX-8's as the fronts for your AV system?

I have mate, and they sounded good, but the imbalance between them and the other 5 KEF's put me off as I am a real believer in all speakers being the same.

The other issue was being able to swop them between 2channel and AV systems as and when required, which is another ballache so I eventually gave up on the idea.

To be fair, the KEF's sound awesome anyway and really hide their size very well indeed.

Looks lovely and neat that though, is it a dedicated room?

Thanks, no, its my front room.

Ah, does your AV Amp not have preouts so you can connect the fronts to your cyrus? As you say though it may be tricky unless you start buying 5 other speakers and a sub!

Also i've just noticed in the pic of your Cyrus gear, whats the blue glow around the PS3 controller? Or is it just the way the camera is catching a reflection from the blue LED at the top?

On a seperate note, i connected my old sub up last night to use as a 2.1 system with my hifi for watching movies. Watching the walking dead gave a fantastic rumble effect. Not sure why i've never done this before! Think i need to turn it down a little though as it was kicking in a little too often.

Good Evening all...

Been meaning to put some pictures up of my set-up for quite a while now... but I have been enjoying it too much to get round to writing a thread.

My parents started building a new home January this year, and we moved in the tail end of April. I am for the time being still living with my parents, so was given two rooms in the house, a bedroom and a second bedroom to use as a living room.

These two rooms were next to each other, with a wardrobes between them. I am someone who HATES the noise and look of AV equipment while trying to enjoy a film / game, so I decided to create a living space that wouldn't have these things, making use of the wardrobe between the rooms.

My initial plans have remained largely the same, however I decided to go or a projector instead of a wall mounted TV as originally planned.

I run a client server based setup, with a HP MicroServer running UnRaid with >8Tb of available space connected to my network alongside a custom built htpc running windows 7 + xbmc + MakeMKV to rip my blu ray collection to the server.

Kit List - Within Media Cupboard

Patch Panel
24 Port Gigabit Switch
Broadband Router
8TB UnRaid Server
Media PC Running XBMC Served by Server
Xbox 360 Slim
SKY HD 1TB
Denon 1912 AV Amp

Kit List - Living Space
KEF Q100 Bookshelf Speakers
BK Gemini II Sub
KEF Q200c Centre Speaker

iPad 16GB WiFi running
Denon DeRemote
XBMC Commander
Sky+ Remote

I control everything from the iPad, including turning on / off the PC, Media Server, and AV AMP.

I can control the sources from the iPad, and also control the xbmc setup, choosing my media from the iPad and watching it on the big screen.

I do also have an IR extender for the Sky Box, as it can be a pain to control from the iPad.

So... Pictures in the next couple of posts

Here's my current setup, fairly modest compared to many on here!

For speakers I originally had a cheap Mission 5.1 package from the mid-90s. Still using the old rears, but have since replaced the fronts with Mission M31is which are bi-amped and this week I swapped the centre for a Cambridge Audio S50. I ditched the subwoofer as I'm not a fan of mega bass and never used it.

I used to have a mainly Panasonic & Yamaha mix of components, but over the last year or so I seem to have gone mainly Sony. Didn't intend to, just happened that way :)

Sony KDL-40EX653 TV
Sony BDP-S370 Blu-Ray
Sony STR-DH820 Receiver
Technics SLPG-400A CD <- had this one since the early 90s and still going strong!
Virgin Media V+ HD

Cabinet was purchased just before my son was born to replace an open glass unit and keep things away from sticky fingers! The TV riser is a ghetto affair that I knocked up so that I had somewhere to install the centre speaker - it's a B&Q shelf with IKEA kitchen cabinet legs. :)

Only thing you can't see is a Raspberry Pi running XBMC which is bolted to the back of the TV - I use a MS Media Centre remote for control, you can see the IR dongle on top of the CD player. Had orignally used my TV remote via CEC, but that got a bit flakey after getting the HDMI receiver. All media held on a Synology NAS in the office upstairs connected via gig ethernet. I ran CAT5e round the house before we had it plastered.
