Is this whats known as Bi-wiring?

Certainly not bi-amping, though we couldn't actually tell that from only looking at the rear of the speaker, bi-wire and bi-amp would look the same if that's all we could see. This is single wired with wire used as the terminal jumper rather than the typically supplied metal plate links.

I'm now the proud owner of an Anthem MRX 300. I never knew things could sound this good! I've owned Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, also heard Denon and Marantz, nothing comes close to the Anthem.

ARC is truly stunning. No pics as I think it always looks ugly in pics, in real life it's not so bad. Behind my tinted glass AV cabinet it looks good lol.

hehe thanks.

Bit miffed as I've discovered that one of the side speakers was really scuffed along the bottom edge while it was mounted, but oh well, I guess as long as the lights are down, no one will notice!

Need to get a new cable for my sub *SVS PC-Ultra) and wondering whether or not there'll be any (realistically noticeable) degradation if i go from what I've got now (QED performance Sub) to the QED Micro sub cable... i'm guessing not... but hmmmm

In the same boat. Want to move my monolith but I need a flat subwoofer cable to root it under the flooring. I also need about a 10 metre run of it. The only flat speaker cable I can find is by nordest but its daft money and only goes up to 4m. Was looking at the qed micro but not sure if I could route it unseen.

No.
I used to run them Bi-wired and they sounded thin for some reason. Got chatting to a few guys over on the AOS and they suggested I try the links back in, so I did, and it was better. Go figure.

Anyway, when I bought the Tellurium Q it was comedy money, so I opted for their links instead of Bi-Wiring.

Hi

Some fantastic set ups in here. Mines very simple.

One request that is often overlooked, can people also post the makes of their cabinets please. Looking to replace the 5 shelf oilrig (target)rack with something suitable and whilst there are some good ones in here it's hard to identify which they are.

Thanks

That's the AVR I've going to get as well - all reviews point to it being the one to get for now both for ARC and it's general performance (pity about the lack of HDMI inputs though). Can't decide on speakers though. I want a BK sub, a matched front three and probably non-direct fire rears but there's waaaay too much choice. Confuzzled.

Well, the MRX300 is about a grand and I'd buy new. The sub I may try and find a 2nd hand BK Mono but if not then that's about £500 new with shipping so we're up to £1500. The BK will probably be overkill for my room, but it's better to have a capable sub turned down I suppose. That leaves the speakers. I'd say £1500-2k at the very most, otherwise I'll have a good AVR but speakers that probably wouldn't make the most of it.

My room is 13x11. I WILL be investing in proper room treatment, probably DIY panels and bass traps, since although I love GIK, going down that route is expensive. I have a completely separate stereo system from my AVR for 2 channel music:

Music on NAS - Squeezebox Touch - NAD M51 DAC - Focal CMS 50's, although I'll be replacing these with Event Opals soon (and I'm building some DIY speakers for the lulz too, what is wrong with me?!).

Thus the 5.1 set up will be for TV, movies, games (PC connected to AVR) and I will watch some music performance DVDs/BDs, although most of these have a 5.1 track rather than PCM stereo.

2nd hand would be fine, preferred even given I could get better for less.

Ignoring the fact everything is sold in pairs for now, I'm undecided if I want:
a) five identical speakers
b) identical front three and different rears
c) 5 piece set with the centre turned vertical (I had my TV unit built so it could take a vertical centre speaker in the middle between the left/right equipment racks)

With the rears, I'm not sure if direct fire or di/bipole would be better (need to show room to get advice), given mixed use. With the front three, I'd imagine x3 standmounts rather than floorstanders because the room isn't huge and I wouldn't need the stereo pair to do 2 channel so wouldn't need to be fuller range.

This will sound silly, but the problem I have with a lot of the manufacturers is they have so many lines I know if I go for the low end, I'll end up wondering about the next line up etc (ignoring the ultra/luxury end - I'm not going to be owning 802Ds or big ATCs any time soon!), so I was trying to look for stuff like XTZ or at the cheaper end Q Acoustics where they don't have a huge range/tons of models within a range to choose between. I was looking at those Kef LS50's as they're sort of a 'stand alone' range and I've seen a dealer selling them in odd numbers.

Yes, I'm hopeless.

Would it not be sensible to combine the speakers so use your stereo speakers as the fronts for your AV setup? Sure you could pick up an additional Focal CMS50 as a centre, or even easier if DIY building a pair.

Seems like a lot of speakers otherwise to me, especially as you mention the room isn't huge.

One of the main reasons I moved into a new (detached) house hehe :D

Yeah true - but the room I had before was even smaller haha!

The last pic makes the room look a lot smaller than it actually is, there's a fairly decent distance between the sofa and the back wall and there's a coffee table between the sofa and the TV.

7.1 just adds to the immense overkill lol

Very nice setup... very clean.
