Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

There are no generic 'best' settings because every set is different - two sets of settings on two of the same model plasma might give appreciably different results. Turning things like intelligent frame creation and other picture processing options off is a good start though. This is one of the reasons why proper calibration is good because although you have to host someone for 4-6 hours in your house, at least your TV will have been optimised with professional measuring equipment in order to get the best picture out of the individual set (with presets for day/night/3D/etc).

Essentially copy and pasting some of the pics in my project log, so forgive me if you have seen these bad quality pics before. I was on a bare minimum budget for my set up and thought it was refreshing to put up a log which didn't consist of thousands. so far (minus the PC and insulation work) it has worked out to about the price of an Xbone. I think money put to good use.

Screen + spotlights above it!

Comfy sofa with 5.1 surround sound (sofa is almost new from charity shop at £65, 5.1 cost me £70 and was bought off of a friend)

This picture shows the spot lights above the sofa, nothing exciting. Oh and projector is there too, which was £200 second hand!

Oh and the record player! I still have to sort out the finish but i thought i might as well move it here and clean it, or it might go back into storage. This was essentially free as it was my fathers and had been sitting in the garage for longer than i have been alive and was found when i cleared it for the building work to start. Took a while to get things working but i must say it sounds stunning with my edifiers (£49.99 from OCuk deal of the day!).

Picture from my desk, located to the left of my sofa. (Desk is old and in need of replacing but it will do for now. Price: free)

The pictures from my phone does not do the projector justice, but here is a shot of the screen.

Thanks!

Sofa has a throw to go over it, wasn't in the picture due to recently installing the projector above it (didnt want to get drill dust on it).

Speakers are cool, i am no audiophile and am incredibly impressed with them so far. I wanted some beefier ones but these suit my needs and a decent set would have cost as much as everything else in the room. Budget build :(

I wasn't knocking the speakers themselves i just meant haven't you got two directly behind your ears and three right in front of you on the table?! Maybe I'm seeing it wrong I'm not at my best right now!!! :p

Looks a beaut of a set up. wish i had that sorta room to play with.

As ever, my hifi has changed again!

Decided to try some valves after being really unimpressed by an amp (bought blind mind you!)

Picked up 2 from ebay for a decent price. One was a World Audio Designs Integrated KEL84. Fairly nice and small with a decent output. The only problem was that the volume pot was bizarre and was stepped rather than a smooth flow. As such it only had 6 volume levels and even at its lowest setting it was much too loud with any source which didn't have its own input. Sounded decent though although bass wasn't the strongest.

Next up i picked up a World Audio Designs 5881 power amplifier. This was factory built and i picked it up locally so had at least had a small demo of it. Just connected it this morning with my old Densen DM20 pre amp (which i've always insisted i'd keep as i love it).

First impressions are good. Much lower bass to it even though its still only quite low powered (18wpc). I still think there is something missing for me though and i think that after being spoilt with some 845 tube powered monoblocks i might end up there at some point. I am having fun trying out quite a few different combinations though.

My beloved 5881 died a few days ago after many years of great sound.
They sound best with a passive preamp by the way so give one a try if you can.

HNY all.

AVForums usually has them.

If there's someone in your area who can set them up to ISF or THX standards then pay the money and have it done. http://www.avforums.com/forums/isf-thx-calibration.311/

AVforums don't list anyone in Scotland yet :(

The best way is to learn on your own. Get a ColourMunki or a i1 Display Pro and HCFR or eventually CalMan. Or if you want to get really serious, get an i1 Pro 2 with the i1 Display Pro. So you can profile the i1 Display Pro. It's just over 1k.

Then if you want to enhance your TV some more after calibration.

A consideration with the Ideal Lume is that if the wall behind the TV is say, a bright red, then 6500k-ness of the Lume is wasted. You'll also need a US to UK power transformer but the light itself is very low power so you only need a basic one.

My hi-fi stuff is all in my computer room and its more home studio/pro audio really.

Very nice setup and great photos too..

I wish I had the space to properly organize and expand on my DJing stuff these days. My 1210s are rather neglected since I had to handover my office room to my baby.

Incoming terrible photo alert!

My Tannoy Mercury V4(i) arrived today. Ordered the V4s from Exceptional AV but they were out of stock and out of production so the guy phoned me up and said he'd send the V4i's at no extra cost :D Delighted!

EDIT

The DVD case at the right will be getting moved.

Thanks.

I havent used my 1210s in over half a decade - no time :(

Going to rip all my vinyl and sell it on, its just using dead space and losing more and more money each year.
