Post Your Home Cine & HiFi Kit...

You know there's a trade-in deal on Arcam at the moment? Should bring the AVR450 in at just over £1200 if you trade yours in. There's also a couple of places with AVR400 left at £1k - if you can trade in your AVR280 for a couple of hundred that's a pretty good deal.

Yeh was tempting, but the AVR400 and AVR450 are not a big enough step up in pure audio terms over the AVR280. All the add is the fancy HDMI stuff. Its the AVR600 im after which is in another price level alltogether :(

Got a nice new TV (sony w653 42"). Is having speakers directly behind it bad? (other choice is floor..)

A couple of nice purchases this week, the HS7 for the studio/Dj setup and the RSW12 to go alongside my RX8, RX2 and Rx centre in my 5.1.

Picked up the Sub unused for 290 quid which I am pretty happy with, and the HS7s will replace my old Mission 760is and a Marantz PM54-SE which had long since seen better days and both needed repairs I couldnt get done here.

Also had my 20 year old technics 1210 MK2s serviced and repaired for the first time ever.. :D

"When thinking of regulation, it’s worth remembering the Roman god Janus. Who was the god of gateways, and was a two faced god looking in both directions. Likewise a good voltage regulator is required to look in both directions at once. "

When the website prints absolute crap like that you know your on to a winner!
Thanks for making me both laugh and cry this morning.

May I suggest this as your next upgrade http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/...i-09-iec-inlet-gold-plated-4582237530230.html
How can you not afford to have your plastic "acoustically inert"???

That site.. wow

http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/91-wireless-router-psu-s

Most wireless routers like the virgin media superhub are powered by smps (switch mode power supplies) which are known to inject interference into the mains system. Replacing these with a fully regulated linear power supply will help to improve sound quality from your hi-fi if you use the router to connect your system through.

:D

Ezah how were the Mission 760i sound wise? I've been keeping an eye on eBay and they seem to pop up every now and then. From what I've read not the best bass response

They are very old now (20 years+?), so I wouldn't recommend buying any as they are probably due repairs. The rubber surround came off one woofer on mine and I didn't have the means to repair it, especially not at the value they are now worth.
I used them mainly for DJ monitors (drum&bass) rather than discerning listening, and they did me pretty well over the years for that purpose. Pretty good all rounders for bookshelf speakers really, but their time has passed for me.

It's a 47" TV. Any bigger and the door would be a problem :) it will be much better once that sub is gone.

Although it never stopped me saying to wife "how about this 50"!!!!"

Still need to sort out the mass of wires behind the cabinet... but that can happen next bank holiday ;)

Edit: - Swapped the layout a bit, better?

I need to swap that radiator for a slimmer, slicker one.

You're certainly making the most of that space, super compact setup! Do you have any problem with the sub vibrating/moving?

Nah it's got rubber feet plus I don't have it too loud as the room doesn't require much. Sounds pretty perfect like it is I haven't even put up the rear speakers.
