my new LG OLED

don't let the picture quality fool you im blown away by this set

I was weighing up whether to get the lg oled as it was pretty much the same price as I paid for my plasma (£1999 at currys).

But for me the uniformity issues on dark greys and high input lag killed it for me plus the motion blur on 60fps content due to using similar sample and hold as lcd.

Now I'm not saying plasma are perfect, the buzzing, dfc, line bleed etc are annoying. As is the diminished image in a bright room, my room is light controlled with blackout blinds, however sometimes I don't want to watch everything in near darkness to get the best picture.

With an oled the picture is pretty much stunning regardless of conditions, hell even in pitch black the blacks are black, as opposed to the glow I can see on the plasma, due to the pre-charge in the pixels.

I've measure blacks at 0.004 using my meter and they still glow in a pitch black room once your eyes adjust.

Anyway I'm going to wait until oleds improve in gaming lag and motion. For now the near perfect motion on 60fps material and deep enough blacks with ambient lighting is good enough.

Which Plasma do you have, CJ84?

I managed to pick up a VT65.

I'm enjoying it so far. I've spotted a few things that bug me, but I find faults in everything :D

It buzzes louder than I'd like, it's definitely louder than my VT50 I had.

Just read my earlier post, the £1999 at curry was the oled. Although it reads like I bought my plasma there...only plasmas curry do at the moment are lg and low end Samsung.

Interesting that you said you experience line bleed. From everywhere I read of the reviews they said they sorted it.

Yeah it's still there.

If I press select while viewing the internal freesat, the bar at the bottom appears showing programme info etc, the line bleed is visible there.

And on scrolling credits at the end of a programme (on a light coloured background, on black screen with white credits then obviously nothing shows)

It's better than previous plasmas but it's still there for me.

On the PS3 main menu, I'd see obvious line bleed at the top of the screen, this is minimal on the vt65. On the vt50 it was an obvious line going across the screen.

Dfc is also reduced on 50hz material, I can still see it when cameras pan over people's faces but it's better.

Here's a bad picture taken on a mobile, look to the left of where it shows the programme info, you can see line bleed on the grey 4:3 borders. I don't watch programmes like that, but using the grey side bars highlights it.

Just touching on the oled vs plasma thing again.

For me personally this review highlights reasons that I went for plasma over oled

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/lg-55ec9300-201410203929.htm

While the contrast performance is incredible, and ultimately oled WILL be not IF, the superior technology for videophiles, as it stands the flagship plasma were overall better.

Plus seeing uniformity like this on dark shades would send my ocd into overdrive

I've gone through exchanges on amoled phones for uniformity issues, they've always suffered from it on dark shades, and even slight tinting and non uniform whites is common.

Hence the reason mine went back and the 930 I got after it also, the picture quality it the best I have seen on TV but the uniformity is shocking and every tv has a thin line top to bottom left and right of Center where the curve is which drove me nuts when watching football, I ain't paying £2k for somthing that bad, I am going to give i a few years until they sort these nigles then I will go back, I have got a 55HU7500 coming tomorrow in replace of it.

See my above post, Don't bother stick with the plasma or get a 4k lcd, once panasonic and sony start buying panels from LG that's when we will see better uniform, motion and input lag quality OLEDs

Cheers woppy, yeah that's the plan for me.

I bet you must be gutted about the oled.

I remember before a few years ago people were proclaiming oled TVs as the "perfect" technology, yet there's still uniformity issues.

One thing though are you going to find the Samsung you've got coming worse for uniformity? Not only might you have vertical banding but blacks are not going to compare at all.

I'm not trying to put a dampener on your purchase but there are things you won't tolerate, and rightly so for that amount of money. I'm the same. But I just feel the lcd/led will be worse.

If you wanted plasma you could potentially pick up a 55vt65 from tps http://www.tps.uk.com/?tab_id=52

Same price as the oled
