finally invested in a decent headphone amp and soundcard :)

amp: musical-fidelity x-cans v2
card: e-mu 0404

with some qed interconnects.

i have to say - even due to the headphones, which dont benefit that much from the amp - my cds sound a lot nicer through this new setup :D

i think its time i invested in some proper cds, mp3s are nice but the cds just sound better.

I thought it was time to upgrade my old 28" Widescreen to a Plasma, so bought a 42" Philips which had a standalone DVDRW came bundled with it (so have done away with a VCR now), i already had the Yamaha AV and had the Sky+ box installed last week, Xbox for streaming movies/mp3 via Wireless link to PC.

Picture Quality is awsome, much better than i imagined :D

Yeah Unfortunately couldn’t really stretch to anything else will be getting a good set soon I think though maybe the 53’s, but these sound great for the price

Jay, doesn't the rear surround stage focus far more on the centre with that massive centre speaker there coupled with the weedy looking eltaxs?

It's a lovely looking room, and hopefully I'll be able to have a room like that one day. One of the main advantages of a projector is that you don't have to have a massive great TV in between your main speakers if you're just listening to a CD.

The rear centre is actually pretty subtle and works well with the rears when using 6.1 (obviously after fine tuning :D).
The rears are actually Wharfdales ;) The Subwoofer is a crappy Eltax but being in the loft, directly above the kids room, means anything beefier would definatley be heard below.
All the other speakers are paradigms and they sound sweet

My newest setup...

Well, I've finally got a setup worthy of showing off. Just need to change the amp and get a CD player (or an external sound card) and it'll be complete.

Here are some piccies anyway :)

Full setup

Left Speaker

Right Speaker (ignore the box ;))

Abit NF7-S w/ SoundStorm SPU
Digital Output into Yamaha DSP-AX620
B&W 601 S3 Speakers on Atacama Nexus 6's
Profigold Optical Cable and KEF Speaker Cable
Eltax 10" Subwoofer which hasn't been used since I got the speakers
And finally, a Panasonic VCR.

It sounds pretty damn good imo, definately much better than my older speakers (Eltax Silverstone 200's and Mission 700's). Awesome detail, great bass response... very involving sound with great depth.

Just a shame I have to listen to my n00b mates who can't tell the difference between my setup and a boom box midi-system

Not yet, although I have thought about it.

Does it make a big difference in the overall sound? I was thinking about waiting until I move into a bigger room before filling the stands, as then I could make a fair comparison.

LMAO! :D

That's my dads' video collection. Quite a large variety of movies there... probably is some of the "nekked woman" type too. Might have to have a little peek ;)
