** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

After spending 5 hours on mine at home last night I'm more than happy with it. Nice having IPS colour back with a minimal amount of glow in the top left corner but not enough to make me want to RMA it back.

Same, a little there but not enough to bother me :)

Can't wait to max out the Division on it tonight!!!!

The a tiny bit of BLB glow more than likely will go from what I can tell after using it for a while. Obviously IPS glow won't though, that's part and parcel of the panel.

Also giving it a gentle rub with a cloth in that corner might help as well.

Should have my own X34 in a couple of hours or so!

Another cherry picked monitor for review, or an in-experienced reviewer who doesn't even know the issues MANY people have been having with it and therefore make any attempt to address them. Pathetic.

Seemed a spot on for me. Do you just spend your time moaning in various monitor threads? Nearly 70 posts in this thread and you don't even own this display. Seriously getting boring now.

I turned off when it started 'NCIX'.... It's a sales video, not a review.

Hardwarecanucks are a great video review site. Whilst they won't review a display in the manor you would their reviews are decent and well respected. You should have carried on watching it.

Sorry, didn't realise that was just a sponsorship. My apologies, I do actually really like Hardware Canucks. One of my go-to sites for GPU reviews. :)

post #2177 youtube review (damn good) followed by post #2178 regretting it

says it all.

Legend - should have just left it like that and not commented :)

I got mine no competitor talk please!, minimal left hand glow, hits 95hz only still very happy. Great monitor.

Which monitor is perfect? Anyone got one?

There are many posts in here from happy owners. In my eyes as an actual owner that review was spot on.

Pcm2 reviewed the XR34 here and gave it a great score but I guess he was also wrong as well.

As did badass with his reviews.

Exactly. I've reviewed dozens and haven't come across one yet. :p

As Razor Time said, I did review the XR341CK and gave it a fittingly good score. I have used many monitors over the years and that was probably one of the most enjoyable.

Hi there

Well my Predator X34 turned up today, Nov 2015 build and I am really impressed with it.

1. Overclocked straight to 100hz no problem.

2. No coil whine, even with full white page

3. No BLB! IPS glow is very minimum also really stuggle to look for it.

4. Whites are nice and uniform

5. Tested the Pendulum demo and can't see any scan lines

Think I've won the monitor lottery as I really can't fault it. It's built very nice and looks amazing on my desk. First time I have ever seen g-sync and I can say it does live up to the hype. Played a bit of BF4 and I was quite shocked the difference it makes. Really is a night and day difference.

Calibrated it properly with my iDisplay Pro so colours are bang on.

And there's me worrying I might get a problem one. . . :p

Nice one!

Excuse me?? I have to own it before I can make a comment on a review? Sorry, I must have missed that rule. There are KNOWN and WIDESPREAD issues with this monitor. Any 'review' should address them, even if to say their review sample is problem free. It either demonstrates complete ignorance to the issues in the first place (bad journalism and uninformative) or that the reviewer has been told not to say anything negative... I don't know if that even happens, but it makes you wonder when you see hundreds of complaints on every forum, and a 'review' which makes no mention of them WHATSOEVER! A quick Google reveals this.

This WAS NOT a review, it was a puff piece. Also, this guy is not Dmitri (the main man at Canucks), who is far more thorough with his reviews. I follow his channel and this guys stuff very often feels lacking compared to Dmitri's.

His review was fine in line with how I see the display, there was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't an in-depth review like pcmonitors or tftcentral but most monitor reviews aren't like this especially when they are on youtube. Maybe the reviewer just gave his honest opinion of the display he had in front of him like other reviewers have done with these displays and had no apparent issues which you seem to think are inherent on all these displays.

As for issues with the display most of the owners in this thread seem more than happy with their displays myself included. I can google any display and find people with issues, as pcm2 states no monitor is perfect and that comment is from a respected monitor reviewer. Its funny how actual users in this thread arent the ones mainly mentioning issues time and time again but people who don't own the display seem to be experts on the the state of this monitor.

Most of the posts I have read of yours in the monitor section seem to be how you had to return 4 Acer XB270HU monitors and how you dislike Acer etc... ie just moaning. This really doesn't help anyone at all unless you are discussing the XB270HU.

His review was pure adulation and didn't address known issues. It simply wasn't thorough... what does it matter if other reviews do the same? Doesn't make it OK in my eyes. Just because you don't have any faults doesn't mean they don't exist. One forum I read someone returned x5 X34's. My experience with the XB270 may not be directly relevant to the X34, but it has understandably made me wary of any future monitor purchase, and I am FAR from alone in that. I don't dislike Acer any more than anyone else... it's an LG panel in the X34 and an AUO in the XB270, so very different products. I actually believe the issues many have seen with the X34 stem more from it being overclocked from a native 60hz... this isn't Acer's fault necessarily and it seems the new Asus PG34 will be the same. I'm not beating down the X34, I just want a review to be open and honest and put all the cards on the table. What could possibly be wrong with that? It's great to see owners posting positive comments about it of course, but there are many negative ones too. And for the record, I have hovered over the purchase button on the X34 on more than one occasion, so I'm not trolling or just taking swipes at Acer or anyone else for the sake of it.

One thing I should say is that I was quite happy to see that the XR341CK was free from issues such as 'coil whine' (other than that linked to the speakers) and interlace-pattern artifacts (or scan lines/inversion artifacts as some call them). With it being overclocked only to 75Hz, though, I suspect this might have something to do with it. I'll probably be reviewing the PG348Q fairly shortly and will of course raise any issues like that if I come across them and suggest any possible ways to counteract them.

He probably didn't mention any issues as his display didn't have any issues a bit like most of the owners in this thread. Ever thought that might be the case in hand?

As for not disliking Acer well someone else must be posting from your account, here is a small sample from this thread.

Well no one can say it's a surprise with Acer... they shouldn't be allowed to sell monitors IMO, utterly disgraceful.

Yeah Acer suck for QC and warranty... even though you do get certain protection under the Sales of Goods Act which many people don't realise. Unfortunately though, if you want an ultra-wide with G-Sync, there isn't any other option until Asus release their PG348Q.

Don't get too excited... it's looking like what you receive will be an epic disappointment anyway. :(

No problem... it's good to know what your rights are in these instances. Doesn't change the fact that the Acer warranty is a big pile of poo though, and SHOULD something go wrong with your monitor a day after that 2-year period expires, it's not a situation you would want to find yourself in... but it certainly isn't a calamitous no hope one either as some people may fear.

So much negativity in a thread on a display that you don't even own. Just let it go, you will feel better for it.

He quite possibly didn't have any issues, but if he was aware of the problems so many have reported, it would surely be prudent to mentions them? Again, why wouldn't you if you knew about it? Suggests he was oblivious to it all. There are MANY MANY owners who have had a very different experience to yourself... you can't single out this thread, a bit of reading elsewhere shows a different story.

Well, Acer's QC has proven to be rather shocking actually... you will find many people agree with that. I was most likely venting some anger following my frustrating experience with the XB270 (which may explain my tone in some of those posts) most of which had dirt/dust behind the panel. So no, I don't like them in that regard, but if I had confidence in one of their products I'd happily buy it, and a full and thorough review would go a long way towards that. I really don't think asking for a full and all-encompassing overview, warts and all, is asking that much tbh, but I guess we'll agree to disagree that this would be a positive thing for everyone.

Guys. Can I just say that constant bashing of a brand or product will not be tolerated. Please consider that a warning. You've more than had your say now about Acer and this screen.

Why would a reviewer mention something that they aren't seeing in front of them. That doesn't make any sense to me. Video reviews are normally 6-12 mins long and they cover what needs to be covered and what they see in front of them. You dont see them discussing stuff they don't see in that small time frame. Pcper, JayTwocents, Paulshardware, Digitalfoundry etc... all gave similar reviews and high praise for the display. Hence I wouldn't say this was an indication that the reviewer was oblivious at all but rather he reported what he saw and experienced just like all the other reviewers have done.

If you wanted to buy this display tftcentral reviewed the XR34/X34 last year and their reviews are as detailed as you can get, pcmonitors have now also done the same. Both sites have reviewed these displays well and given it praise.

Anyway enough has been said, time to get the thread back on track.
