** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

Probably been returned for horrible back light bleed if they are going for that cheap though....

I got one myself and it does have SOME bleed (as I think 99% of these panels will to some extent), but such that I'm more than happy with for nearly half price! No stuck/dead pixels and it OCs to 100Hz without issue... although I do get a bit of coil whine on a screen which is predominantly white. All in though, I'm very happy with it, although I can understand why someone who paid full price wouldn't be. Chasing perfection with these monitors seems like a fools errand to me though... you have to be very lucky, or you just end up settling on one that's OK. I could have gone through half a dozen new ones and still ended up with something similar to what I have. Oh, and can still register with Acer for warranty by the way, so the 90 days only applies with OCUK. Any issues after that and you're still covered with Acer... although I have read this isn't always the case with B-grade.

It's like comparing Lidl and Aldi just imagine one of them will charge you 10% more.
There are differences but essentially they are very similar with different tweaks applied here and there.

contemplating this or the ROG... is there any significant differences I should take into account?

Comes down to what design you prefer. The X34's back is gloss black plastic, whereas the ROG has a cool looking moulded back, along with a cover for the cables. But I never watched the back of my monitor to be honest.

The X34 has a really effective, subtle LED strip on the bottom of the monitor which looks great when gaming in the evening. The ROG has a tacky logo projected onto your desk.

The X34 has a crappy Predator logo on the front (non illuminated though). The ROG doesn't.

The X34 is £100 cheaper than the ROG. The ROG is £100 more expensive than the Acer.

The ROG has a has a lot more crappy logo on it that says ASUS.

I prefer the Predator logo (it's like a dark gunmetal colour) as it blends in nicely with the black bezel you can hardly notice it.

Not going to get into which one is better / worse. Your paying a slight premium for the aesthetics this stage as both can be hit by varying issues. Do quiet like the LED strip on the ACER, wish ASUS pulled it over to the ROG though, is my only meh point on the ASUS.

But the ASUS logo also blends in fine with the monitor. Its a silver logo on a silver bezel, not sure how that's any worse or better then the gunmetal logo on black bezel.

Lets's not forget also on the Asus the crappy awful stand, tacky (and useless) hologram & lack of gamma control.

The logo on the X34 the colour different is so slight it literally blends in.

The ANUS logo sticks out way, way more in comparison.

Surely its all personal tastes *shrug*

Not a fan of the stand at first, but quiet like it now, looks quiet stunning in real life, though neither this nor the ACER look as nice as the LG ones IMO. Hologram is fine, while not as nice as the LED strip is another personal preference.

Logo blends in perfect for me when its sitting in front of me, silver on silver, cant see how it stands out that much, but if it does to you, fair enough.

I dont think you're paying premium for aestetics i think it's premium for ROG branding. Just like with motherboards ang GPUs where Gigabyte is often equal if not better but Asus is more expensive because they like being seen as premium brand and they just charge more simply because they can.

I do agree for some in fact the majority of people that's likely to be the case more often then not in addition to aesthetics. Me personally I did not mind paying a slight premium for the looks, quiet liked the silver bezel on the panel once I mount it on a vesa stand though still not as nice as lg's offering. Usually I go for whatever looks nice in my opinion regardless of brand.

As a second point at the time of order was hoping the asus would not have had issues. Appears not to be the case.
