** POTENTIALLY THE BEST GAMING MONITORS YET!! ** Acer 34" Ultra-wides

IPS glow seems to be of particular issue with THIS panel... it always has been in every ultrawide it's been used in, so no surprises there as PCM2 says. But there's no excuse for that. I've had several IPS monitors over the years, and NONE have suffered to the extent that this ultrawide one does. I do not accept that it's the extra width that makes it worse... maybe that will contribute slightly, but not to the extent that many examples exhibit. The BLB is another issue altogether of course, but again something this particular panel seems to suffer very badly from. Couple that with some of the purported issues already being reported when the X34 is run @ 100Hz, and it ALREADY seems like one to avoid. I worried this might happen all along after the fiasco of the XB270HU. This particular panel needs to die and Acer need to stop making monitors full stop. Looks like we're in for a LONG wait for the 21:9 monitor we all want. :(

It may seem premature to write off this monitor already, but I've seen and heard enough to confirm what I feared all along. You've only gone and done it again Acer, well done [slow clap].

Exactly the same position, I would pay £1K but current levels of QA just makes in too much of a gamble.

I'd rather pay somebody else to check for dead pixels/unacceptable IPS glow (I know this might be subjective) , I just don't have them time to "mess about".
Gotta love/hate the current attitude of "Customer does the hard work (of QCing), so we don't have to"

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the specs on this thing are my DREAM gaming monitor. And I didn't think we would see it for at least a year.

However, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that, it most likely should have waited a year.

Apart from it being an Acer, which is a total no for me anyway, the fact they are significantly overclocking a panel only meant to run at 60Hz is just asking for trouble.

I await the ****storm thread of nightmares for this monitor with anticipation, and dread.

If the £1000 price tag doesn't scare people off initially, the first sniff of trouble certainly will. Ideally, they won't sell... and that's the only way Acer will get the message. Worst case scenario here is that people buy it any way and keep it despite all the problems... that just gives Acer the OK to keep pooping monitors out their backside, and sending these steaming turds out the back door to customers without even polishing them first!!

ETA has changed to November here. Farcical situation really.

I ordered the Samsung for 529 yesterday but cancelled it as I wanted G-sync and now really regretting it as the price has gone back up.

I just noticed that the date has slipped to the 6/11/15 too.. I was really looking forward to it coming at the end of the month. :-(

So I will have paid for it in August and not received it till November? Doesn't sound right does it. Even though models are shipping out abroad as well?

Don't get too excited... it's looking like what you receive will be an epic disappointment anyway. :(

So where do we as customers stand ?
I've purchased a monitor advertised as 100hz
It's now 60hz to a few that got one.
And 75hz on *******!!?
And for the price I've I overclock it to 100hz I'll lose my warranty if it screws up the panel :(
Any feedback regarding this gibbo?

The red line for me is the instruction manual stating that 100hz mode is "at owners risk", this can be interpreted as a legal buyer beware warning and exclude them from providing any warranty coverage.

Given that Overclockers only provide a 1 month return windows before you are consulted to use the manufacturer warranty procedures this at worse give you a 1 month warranty period if you want to run over 60hz. I am not suggesting that Acer would enforce this line or could even tell you were running it but for me it’s a red line whatever the vendor. A monitor at this price point needs to be perfect.

Given that its delayed until November now anyway I cancelled my pre-order and will watch this space for a curved ultra wide g sync which hopefully we will finally see in 2016. DP 1.2 is capable of 110hz so this is theoretically supportable without exceeding specifications if the panels is designed for that range.

Yeah that's EXTREMELY concerning and a HUGE red flag for anyone buying this monitor. It basically means, by saying overclocking is "at the end user's risk", that if you OC your monitor so much as 1hz above the panel specification (which is 60Hz), and it goes kaput, then you're not covered. Even though they've clearly advertised this monitor as being able to OC to 100Hz!? Either this is a major screw up by their marketing department and the language has been translated incorrectly or something... OR this is one of the most scandalous and deceptive product releases in the history of technology by a bunch of crooks and thieves who deserve to be locked up for such villainy!!

I guess I'm keeping my U3415W for a while longer... My wallet will be thankful.

Was planning to sell it and upgrade to the X34, but I can't be bothered if it's not going to actually run at 100Hz.

Now do I wait and see if this thing does what they have advertised it as being
Or get a refund ...
What's the next best alternative.
:(

We'll see what the TFT Central review says when they get it. We really won't know for sure until then, but there's no getting away from the fact they are using a panel in this monitor which is pretty ancient now and really has no business running at 100hz, so I've always been highly skeptical. The only other alternative I would say is the upcoming Asus PG279Q... at least that has a proven fast and quality panel in it. We just don't know when it's due for release exactly, but hopefully within the next couple of months.

Should have the X34 with me tomorrow or Monday so a review over the next couple of weeks as soon as I can. Def keen to test this 100Hz business :)
