Power to weight ratio of your car?

I'm guessing thats just a brief sample of the metrics glass use to work out the valuations for the guide ?

Do they produce anything else other than the guide out of interest ?
No no, not a sample at all! The content of the guide I summarised in that paragraph simply as "used vehicle valuations" - the other items are all independent, but potentially later linked, products or services that are offered by EurotaxGlass's and the other companies that I have worked for.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't be wise of me to go in to great detail about how we establish used vehicle valuations, as the method isn't public. However, I can link to this: http://www.automotivepr.com/news_de...-aligning-vehicle-values-to-market-prices-817

As mentioned in the article, "Valuations Next Generation" is set to "launch the most significant changes to its valuations system for at least a generation".

For some of the other products we make:

http://www.eurotax.com/index.php?p=prod&l=encm
http://www.eurotaxglass.co.uk/products/index.htm

If you click on "International Locations" there are individual websites for each market that will list additional products.

Plus the equivalent of the Guide in other markets:

http://www.kotauto.fr/

to name just two.

Things like this confuse me, i only had a 45minute drive in one, but i would say performance was very similar to my 182, but theres quite a considerable difference in bhp/tonne.

The R26R is another example of this. But then again, powerwise theres not much in it at all, its all down to the chassis and cut slicks, so i guess that explains why thats so much quicker.

All depends how accurate the weights are.

1163kg is the figure I was using for the Rallye, from the owners website. Evo quote it as being 1199kg and the GTI-6 1215kg and 6.9 seconds to 60 mph.

Compared to the Fiesta ST and the 172 that seems mighty heavy to me, 10% more! The engine isn't the lightest thing, but the shortcuts/penny pinching (expert weight saving) for the Rallye compared to the GTI-6 must be more than 16kg. The aircon condensor weighs that alone!

I could keep up with a Clio 200 on track at Cadwell, he was using Yoko Neovas and I had R888 so I have a slight advantage there.

The gearing is quite short, 3500rpm is approximately 75mph in 6th which helps it feel quite quick, but you have no real power until beyond 4500rpm.

Never realised they did so much. Interesting reading :)
Yup, it's quite a varied organisation with lots going on.

I used to work for R.L. Polk & Co. (http://www.polk.com), a company similar in essence, but one that focussed on new and used vehicle registration and sales information, being the number one supplier of it globally. Information was very detailed and included demographic indicators. For example, they could tell you the split of Honda owners by ethnicity and income in a particular region. Very powerful data.

They also run the US equivalent of HPI, CARFAX (http://www.carfax.com).

Automotive intelligence really is one of those 'hidden' industries. Most people barely know it exists, let alone the scope of it! The ever-changing nature of the world economy, populations and technology mean that the analysis and intelligence is always changing too, which keeps it exciting. It's also an industry that doesn't really feel hard times, as when times are good people are happy to buy, and when times are bad people feel they need to buy to ensure they are maximising potential. However, Polk did feel some pain during the GM and Chrysler issues, as they are two of their three biggest customers (guess the other one :p).

This thread is has problems.... are we talking power at wheels or crank ?, wet or dry weights ?, with or without driver / rider ?.

06 Kawasaki ZX10R

Wet weight with lard ass rider approx 282kg
At wheel BHP with ramair approx 175BHP

620 BHP/TONNE

That must be a really lively Mini Cooper!! Can we get more information? That is a lot more power over stock.

Short Summary, Lightened / balanced con-rods & crank, billet flywheel, ap-clutch, omega pistons, increased displacement from 1275cc to 1380cc, piper cam, twin SU carbs, aldon distributor, elec ignition, 1.5 titan roller rockers ....

I think engine power is what people are going off here. As you could have 2 cars the exact same weight and power but with different transmissons, layout etc, which could transfer lee/more power to the wheels.

For example stock NA supra power is 225HP but wheel power is around 180 -190HP this is mainly down to the AUTO trans robbing power.

An FWD car with a manual trans e.g. Clio 182 will probably have a lot less power loss through the transmission
