PPI Claiming

^ Ignore my previous post, that's not what happens at all.

Phoned round as many companies as I could remember, and turns out I had PPI with legal and general. So if you can't remember all the companies you dealt with over the years you either go through a PPI company or your stuffed. Although I guess you could go through your credit report and ring round them all if you have time.

Unless it's just Natwest who are useless (as useless as their IT systems)

I used the Resolver website and got my payment very quickly with very limited information, but Ive only ever banked with Barclays and only used them for loans.
They said they'd write me a letter explaining my breakdown but I have yet to receive it and its been almost 4 weeks, not spending a penny of it until see why they paid what they did as its a large amount.

Remembered that I had another credit card some time back. Can't remember if I had PPI or not but called up Halifax and it was a very simple process to start the investigation.

Not sure why people can't be bothered to phone up instead of handing it off to a claims company!

That, if the choice is a claims company or not doing it all then the claims company obviously. If you can remember though, it's much easier these days. Literally phone call, address and date of birth. Done!

What would have happened if you didn't remember about the Halifax credit card?

Fair point.

I'm also wondering about my mortgage, need to dig through the paperwork tonight, although I think I'd be chancing my arm on that one regarding it being "mis-sold" if there was any.

worth a phone call, I'm really hoping I get something back from legal and general.

Just had the bank phone and confirm some additional details around my application. Questions relating to my postal application and whether or not I signed a line specific to PPI, whether or not I spoke to anyone regarding the application, whether or not I had savings and disclosure of any medical conditions.

Application will be reviewed and I should get a response within the week.
And lo and behold. Received £850.52pence!

They do outline how that amount was calculated and wow is it weighted in the complainant’s favour! The most I would have originally paid for the premium was £240! :)

That's very interesting, would you be willing to go into some of the details please. Four times the original amount is quite a lot

So briefly the amount was calculated as follows;

1. A total refund of the premium paid over the period it was paid.
2. Plus any interest debited against the credit card in respect of the premium.
3. Plus interest at 8% on any funds I would have had at my disposal had I not taken out the premium.
4. Less basic rate of income tax.

Now the interesting part, after having actually read the paper fully is the actual premium cover period which was only between 99 - 2012, just 13 years. The bank calculated £404.65 yet the premium I paid was just a pound per month so at most £156! The paperwork also includes such references as typical and average credit card balance calculations so I'll assume they just use a template rather than sifting through the actual personal paperwork assuming they even have it any more.

Anyways;

:)

Felt slightly dirty yesterday in submitting a case via Resolver against HSBC from 2001.

Nothing to loose really as it took 5 minutes whilst I was waiting for a conference call to start.

OK, one month on with the HSBC. Just received a call from a claims investigator and had a recorded interview. Everything he asked matched the resolver questionnaire, so quite odd, I simply repeated the same information. Apparently they're going to make a decision this afternoon.

For reference, loan was a 4K graduate loan and they confirmed PPI was sold.

Assuming you have no idea that you have ever had PPI in the past - what is the best way to investigate?

Resolver seems to want to know things like the address at the time. Are you better to leave this blank? I can't see a way to add multiple addresses.

I've had several bank accounts over the years and am reasonably confident that I've not had PPI - but it seems stupid not to double check.

What's the best way to proceed in such circumstances?

Glad I read this thread, submitted three claims to the resolver site, just got the results, £4798.31

Super chuffed, although the GF has already spent it on kitchen stuff :(

I used The Claims Guys, same as the OP did. I just ticked every card, loan, bank finance company I may have had business with and supplied all my addresses going back 20 twenty years. They then find if you had PPI with anybody and write and tell you who with and with account/reference numbers. Then you can use the resolver site to put your own claim in using that info.

Otherwise I wouldnt have had a clue.

Thanks - I hadn't seen anyone mention a particular site.

I've given The Claims Guys a try. When you say you ticked every card, loan etc, did you do that on the site somehow? All I did was fill in some initial details (name, phone, etc) and they called me straight back to collect info. I basically just said these are the banks I've had dealings with in the past, but no idea if any of my cards/loans would have had PPI. In fact in most cases I can't even recall if I did have a loan with them or not.

Will just see what they come back with.

Does the initial paperwork contain any useful info about any PPI you might have had? The implication I got from that call is that I'll be sent paperwork which needs to be filled out and returned, before they do anything else.

Basically same as you, got the phone call, named he ones I knew I had had financial dealings with although no idea whether I had PPI with. The guy on the phone then read out a list of of other banks financial institutions and that got me two or three more which I had forgotten about.

Paperwork came pre filled out for each one (had over twenty forms to sign). Tip for you, give all your addresses over the phone and then each form comes with them all filled out. My gf didnt and they said, no problems you can fill that out later but its dead boring filling out three or four addreses twenty odd times!

When you get the forms you also get a list of finance, card, loan companies and banks and some blank forms if there are any you have missed.

Sign them all and post them back and then they approach each one and then wait and see if you had any PPI with them. I honestly dont think I ever had any PPI with anybody as I was always against it but you never know. I am waiting for my info as I speak to see if there is anybody to claim against.

Then when I get that I will just use resolver to do the claims myself. You dont need to use the claim guys but if you did they then take a fee of course. This first stage is free of charge,
