*****PRE-ORDER: WINDOWS 7*****

Mircosoft have shown that price it low and sell shed loads works. I think people have decided that its worth paying £ 49 for some nice software, rather than pirating it from dodgy site

This is a sort of chicken and egg question but... how do u download a web browser if you dont have a web browser

Since vista, windows update has been part of control panel and not done via a browser, so you can do it like that. Or just stick the install of fox on a usb stick ;p

But then most users wont have this problem because as already been stated, vendors (like dell, hp etc) will just install a browser for you.

So a supplier says you can have the latest version of it's product for £49.99 rather than £149.99 and the offer is only available until a fixed date OR the allocated stock runs out. They run out of allocated stock and instead of saying 'tough' they offer the next batch at up to 50% off rrp at launch. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

Oh hang on it's Microsoft, er, Bill can afford it, didn't someone say it's a monopoly ? I also heard they're evil and beta tested 7 on small furry kittens. It's immoral, illegal and shouldn't be allowed, they're not even including a browser lolz!!!!1111 Apple wouldn't do it... *Yawn*

How about instead of moaning about them having a popular offer and selling the pre sale allocation why not just find a supplier who still has allocated units at the 49.99 offer price if you are bothered ? I've ordered one in the last 5 minutes without issue from a well known competitor, if I hadn't been able to i'd be slightly annoyed but i've only myself to blame for not buying it when I spotted the offer. As for Technet/MSDN subs they've given away enough subscriptions for free in the last year or so, they don't seem overly bothered about the subscription pricing for the basic stuff.

If you can't solve that stupidly easy problem you shouldn't be allowed to have a computer.

OK smartar*e, if the average joe (not me btw) doesnt have access to another computer to get it on a USB and IE is not included in winupate due to the CC decision (havent checked this) how would they know what to do?

I imagine most standard users would be flummoxed by the vacuous hole created by the lack of "e" in their quicktray!

Oh come on :D If your average joe can't get a small install file of firefox or something onto a computer by some other method than downloading it off the net, what the hell are they doing buying and installing a boxed, retail OS?

I'm sure hardware vendors (OEM) will be able to install browsers on their laptops or whatever, seeing as they can install norton and crap like that. It's no longer MSs worry then.

If they are using it to upgrade then they already have a working PC with which they can download a browser and burn it to disk or USB key or something. Email it to themselves etc etc. Hardly rocket science

Buy a mag like Pc Pro or something - FF is usually on the cover DVD.

If this is the case, shouldnt they have offered it exclusively to beta/RC users:

Why is Microsoft making this offer?

Our customers have been critical in making Windows 7 great and we didn’t feel words alone were enough to express our appreciation. That’s why we're saying thank you by giving you a chance to be among the first to get Windows 7, and at a special price.

but everyone got the chance to beta/rc test so techinically they are, by offering it to everyone...

And also it wasn't only the Beta/RC testers that helped with Windows 7, it was everyone who moaned about Vista, or contacted them with any sort of issue.

With these prices this low, are we likely to see any sort of OEM pricing with any significant saving over these preorder retail pricing?

If the £49.99 pricing is still available could someone post in the Product Suggestions forum and I'll look into it. I've checked the list of companies who are on the MS list and they're not offering at £49.99 anymore.
