Pro Cycling Discussion 2016

Fantastic finish to Paris Nice today. Great to see g going so well. Interested to see what they'll use him for over the year.

Also great win for Steve Cummins in Tirreno-Adriatico! The guy is an animal.
Yes G was impressive. I thought Bertie would have him but is really hung in there and had a good finish. He's a tough SOB.

Did you put it on gsv? He smashed it easily. Won the sprint without even using the drops.

Yep :)

And he looks like sex on a bike; such souplesse and massive racing know-how

Bertie was stuck in the small ring apparently

Very impressed by Yates, so close to being up there with the best of them and from what I hear he's targeting the Tour. If he can improve from here that'll be something to look out for.

Keeps getting top 6-8 places - surely a GT contender sooner rather than later.

Omg what a great stage. Fair play to contador for giving it a go but great riding from g to pull it back. Interview after said he had a 54 front ring because he thought he'd have to chase on the final descent.

Great day, hopefully lead to more opportunities to lead as the year progresses.

Just caught up with Tirreno-Adriatico. Stage 6 was great, good thing about early season races is their ability to throw up some different less defensive riding. Helped having the previous day cancelled. And then tt for van avermart to win overall by 1 second. Certainly made that tt more interesting than it would have been.

Sagan forever the 2nd place man again this year! Probably do the same again Saturday....

It was interesting, but certainly not on the level of PN this year.

I have to say, the media obsession with Sagan is starting to grate a bit. Yes, he's a bit of a character and sports need that sort of thing to get people interested. But when it's detracting from the very impressive performances of the actual winners?

I agree 100%.
When he won Richmond in amazing fashion, the hype and buzz around him at that point was great. Cycling looked superb at that moment in time. A funny character finally getting that big win, in America, in a lovely city, in front of huge crowds.... That was awesome. But now, it's almost just a comedy show and it's annoying me as I have said a few times here regards Sagan. It's not even him, he is just being himself and he is a funny guy, as always it is the media doing a terrible job.

Absolutely agree with that Perma, the talk about him, I used to really like Sagan few years ago, but now whenever he is racing there is hardly any attention on anybody else. Which with some of the performances of late is quite sad for the sport.

You boys will love this article  Sagan not happy at GvA not taking turns on the break/having a dig - http://velonews.competitor.com/2016...esnt-like-how-van-avermaet-races-smart_398696

No, clearly that is not Sagan’s style of racing because, discounting his brilliant worlds win, he usually ends up second place — perhaps he could actually learn something from Van Avermaet’s tactics.

Boom!

No no, leave Sagan alone - I just back him EW for most races and he makes me money!

To be honest, this is the safest bet a man could make on cycling :p

HAHA, absolutely, I have thought this for some time, that the reason he doesn't win more is because he doesn't ride intelligently enough when he needs to.

Did anyone see the comments from Gallopin about helping Thomas out in PN? The bloke is a legend! :D and his wife is Fit.

He does race great though, I mean he always gets stuck in and works bloody hard. His style of racing is entertaining/fun and always delivers but the constant 2nd places shows that this way of doing things is not working! I'd rather see him race how he does and always finish second though as it's always great fun to watch, but that curse of the Rainbow bands is real also!

haha yes seen the Gallopin stuff, he's awesome. And he was sure hammering it on that final P-N stage, they all were! G is another guy who interviews well and is great for cycling, down to earth Welsh lad. If you haven't read his recent book, you absolutely need to as it's excellent. Probably one of the best books I have ever read as it's so down to earth and funny.

Does anyone else think Sagan looks ludicrous on a bike these days? Looks like he's massively overdone it in the gym and seems a bit lumbering.

He's not a small fella by any stretch of imagination... He does look big but I don't think it's really holding him back too much :p

Strong squads for Saturday.

Shame can't paste pictures. But sky below.
Puccio, Rowe, Thomas, kennaugh, stannard, kwiatkowski, viviani,

Huh, Viviani was on the start list I looked at. Would have put him on my fantasy team if he wasn't coming off the track. I was tempted to put Salvatore Puccio for them as Ben Swift often disappoints, but I ended up not picking anyone.

I might change my mind and remove Cav though...
