Pro Cycling Discussion 2017

Really enjoyed watching the TdY today. Last few km were awesome to watch.

The Dimension Data guys did a fantastic job, but the chasing group got on my nerves staring at each other like village idiots instead of racing. If Fraille could jump across then so could the group but they let him go while staring at each other before thinking oh yes lets chase them down but by then it was too late.

I agree - whilst I understand people not wanting to drag others over to the leader, teammate jumps away and they all just look at each other.

That stage 3 was brutal. Seriously, people think GT stages with massive mountains in 35 degree's hurt the riders but that stage in Yorkshire with the constant steep climbs back to back was breaking people. I was actually feeling sorry for riders. Shibden Wall was it called? That was horrific.

As much as I dislike Bouhanni, what we seen on the telly was not nice and I would not wish that to anyone. Good to hear he is OK and it was not half as bad as it looked.

Stage 1, that Italian DD rider should have been DQ'd. He caused that crash 100% in the sprint when he chopped across half the road. Not sure why it wasn't even hinted/considered about action against him and his result stood.

Some amazing performances from British conti team riders all over.

Have really enjoyed the ToY this year, I don't recall it being as engaging last year but maybe I didn't watch the full coverage. Have really enjoyed the complete coverage they've done from race start - seeing the peloton at those early stages with the attacks and lots of failed breakaway attempts has been great!

Have to agree, seeing Hank (James L-W) and Johnny McEvoy up the road on two stages was superb (as I kinda followed both through their NFTO days but not really since), was also great to see Adam Blythe hammering it around the front on a couple of occasions in the national jersey, shame he couldn't get closer in the sprints though. Shibden wall wasn't quite the 'horror' I'd expected it to be - those were some very well maintained cobbles! ;)

Awesome to see Matty H in the break, really showing the power required from a WT/Classics rider - seeing him seated on some of those climbs while the conti guys are all stood. I've not finished watching the second part of the final stage so the carnage is yet to come...! :o

Quite disappointed with Sky's performance, considering the strong team they had they were largely uninvolved. Rowe was superb, DVP too, but not much from Stannard and the others. Good experience for TGH, he did well throughout so looks like he'll work well as leader. Tommy V got loads of TV time but only saw him briefly off the front a couple of times, shame really. Connar Dunne (big Irish ABS guy) was superb too. I found myself really enjoying watching the Canyon-Bike Channel guys, they seemed to be in every move/attempt.

I thought the stage 1 crash was caused by Magnus cort neilson? He seemed to bounce off two separate riders (1 of them Luke Rowe) after peeling off?

EDIT: Was amazing to see every stage so well supported, huge crowds out & so many things to see on TV! Well done Yorkshire!

!

The green motorbike rider struggled with the slightly non-cobbled part. Not sure what the job of that motorbike was anyway? Is it medical?

About 1:30 in.

This was pretty funny - just as the commentator said give him some encouragement!

I agree it is stupid. It's very rare the fastest descending is caught on camera at the front of the race as it's usually at the back of the bunch from mountains where sprinters are being risky to get back on. Watching Nibs attack and descend like a demon is outstanding but it is rare and it will not be encouraged by this "competition" within a GT.
I can't see the benefits of it for fans nor riders.

Was a stupid idea really. UCI proving how retarded some of their thoughts are!

Fantastic finish, Nobody could match Pauwels on his acceleration and somehow he was putting time into them the next 2 climbs as well?! (only losing it on the 4th and towards the finish!). Fraile had an incredible ride behind, his accelerations were even more incredible! I really feel they deserved that finish, although the others left in that first group really gave it to them on a plate. TGH should be kicking himself, he made no attempt to chase or break away (considering how protected he'd been all race). Still a great result for a neo-pro though.

DD having 3 riders in that final selection, even after all of their pace setting was impressive. Bernie's pace setting on the front was great to watch, he looked incredibly strong and in some amazing form - even Stannard looked uncomfortable keeping with him at times! :o

Awesome, really made me laugh! Rewound it for the other half and she even found it funny! Think it's the proper Yorkshire twang with the full name lol :D

It wasn't UCI, they were outspoken and absolutely against it! I know this may come as a massive struggle to accept the concept of the UCI being on the correct side of the fence and doing something right, but it is true I tell you! :p

HAHA my thoughts exactly! I couldn't believe it was them speaking out. Would have been interesting to see if anyone actually went for it it if went through. Can just imagine a day when it's snowing and one of the descents is up for grabs....

Ah, it just the Giro organisers? Must've got my wires crossed!

Moscon banned from racing for 6 weeks. Considering he apologised after the stage and again the following morning it sounds a little harsh, although I don't know the circumstances of the incident. I think Sky just wanted to make a bit of an example of him to confirm their stance on the whole issue (which is no bad thing really).

Humourus writeup - 'maybe it was just a way of guaranteeing Vincenzo Nibali wins something at his national race.' :D

It takes a brave rider to start celebrating the win before you've crossed the line with the peloton going full gas just meters behind you.

To ease up is one thing but to stop pedalling, sit up and start celebrating is bold! Didn't see that coming and an exciting finish to the first stage. Greipel is probably raging... :p
