Pro Cycling Discussion 2017

Eurosport highlights are starting to annoy me. 90 min programme last night yet they still cut chunks out of the last 5km of the climb. Came back from the last advert break and groups were 2km up the road

Yeah, that's annoying but I dont think it's anything to do with eurosport. The highlights will be recorded from the live stream and if the host broadcaster (RAI, I think?) takes an advert break at that point on the live stream then Eurosport wont have any footage of that part that they can just add in to the highlights programme.

Ouch! Was he the fastest descender though? ;)

Had the same in the ITV4 ToY footage several times. Annoying. Only slightly less annoying when the commentators know so when you come back they can catch you back catch up! :D

Host broadcasters shouldn't have to put advert breaks into their streams to a big broadcaster like ITV/Eurosport, but they obviously do! Obviously don't pay them enough not to...

#derp. I was watching this last night thinking to myself 'Que?!' :p

Does anyone have any idea how much radio contact teammates and their DS have at the end of a stage? I just wonder if perhaps due to the sheer pace nobody was on the blower telling him to calm the **** down or if maybe he'd just pulled it out to go balls deep?

Perhaps it wasn't working, missed the stage briefing or just being 5 hours in and caught up in the heat of the moment got to him :D

In the last 2 K's the Bora team, all 5 of them in the line, were on their radio's yapping at 50kmh in the leadout train. Mental.
I think the Bahrain guy is just a complete muppet. The last lap bell was ringing for the entire time, it was hilarious.

I did see a ride description from one of the riders in last weeks Crit say something like '1st across the line on the 2nd to last lap, heard the bell but just in case' - can't help but think the same :p

Cycling Weekly said:
According to Nibali, the young rider’s radio didn’t work and the team’s efforts to bring him back into the peloton were in vain as he sat up to celebrate.

I watched the highlights and even the commentator was joking that the guy was ringing the bell for so long his arm must be aching, then Pibernik sailed past and still didn't hear it

Whereas UAE have had a great start as well. As have bora. Giro has had a good first week, lots of action and successful breaks. Here's hoping to an interesting weekend.

Damn annoying that another moto incident unfairly changed the race. The riders have to take some of the blame for not looking where they were going but there was no need for the copper to be there, especially when the riders are strung out across the whole of the road.

I don't think it's fair to apportion blame on the peloton. We've no idea how quickly the police moto stopped and if it was sudden, with teams already jostling for position, any evasive maneuver could have just been perceived as fighting for a wheel and denied any extra room.

Of course if he'd parked up minutes before then I agree should be treated as any other piece of road furniture.

As far as I'm aware he was parked up in advance of the peleton and didn't just pull over in front of the peleton and park up. The riders at the front didn't seem to warn the riders behind there was an obstacle in the way. That said, as I said already, the copper had no need to be there at all especially as the peleton was strung out across the whole road.

The biggest problem here is that we have been denied a strong competition for this race. Positioning is everything in pro-cycling and hitting a stationary object is a pretty dim thing to do. We didn't see the lead up so don't know how long the police moto was stopped but Movistar seemed to see it in time and were all in the middle of the road. Not meaning to sound uncharitable but I don't think this can be compared to the other "moving" moto issues we have had in recent years.
