Pro Cycling Discussion 2022

Ridiculous stage, still worry he'll miraculously come back tomorrow and win by 7 minutes or something stupid. Incredible rides all round. G only 4s off now! Bardet riding incredibly again! Hopefully he can make the podum again, but obviously not at the expense of Thomas. Tomorrow is going to either be amazing or a complete lull! Hopefully the former.

I thought Jumbo had messed up when WVA brought back Majka.

Think that’s the best stage I’ve ever watched on the tour so much going on the whole time great team tactics, riders absolutely burying themselves and blow ups all over the place. Not sure who will have what left in the legs for tomorrow it could be an interesting day indeed!

Is this the first time we’ve ever seen Pogacar crack?
I was watching with my bother (who doesn't generally watch cycling) and he was saying how they kept attacking him to break him down. I was trying to explain that doesn't usually work, he's like a machine and will just latch on to the back wheel of whoever is next and he'll just keep doing that. What happened yesterday made him seem human for the first time!

Having said that, I forget what race it was, but I feel like I've seen Vingegaard do that a few months back? I think to Pogecar?

In the 12 to 18 months I've been watching, I've not seen an 'in form' G too, so that's nice to see. He's doing the occasional podcast with Luke Rowe still, during the Tour, so those are fun.

Also a nice story out there about WvA having a puncture on the descent after the race, some guy lending him a pump and Wout giving him the ceremonial Green Jersey!

I'm looking forward to today as they're going over the climbs I did myself last week!

It was the TdF I think last year or the year before? Vingegaard dropped Pogacar but Pog didnt really crack, he kept to his own pace and closed in on Vingegaard and no one else passed him if I remember correctly.

Today should hopefully be an interesting day as some might pay for their efforts yesterday

Pog died a death (relatively speaking) on the race across flanders earlier when he let a move go and then couldn't get back to it, but that's about the only time. Last year at TDF he got dropped a few times but by like 20s and never cracked, as I say I hope he doesn't miraculously take 7 minutes today or something, although it will cement in my mind my opinion on him. Hopefully this won't kill the tour either if Pog loses more time. Hopefully Thomas and Bardet can mount something. I would hope Bardet gives it a go as he is a true racer and a frenchman winning the tour has been unthinkable for so long! Get a bit of bad weather and it cold happen, he's a demon descender.

Just watch itv for 2 competent commentators. Great win for pidcock. Guy is some talent with that descent and climbing ability. Good to see him back in the top 10 hope he can keep it up for another week although it's clear this was his aim as a minimum. His interviews before sounded like he wanted that stage long before today. Great to see froome give it a go too.

GC bit quieter but still pogacar trying to make it happen and hopefully this'll be it day after day until the end. Thomas just plugging away being consistent, never been a guy with a huge kick but hes certainly able to stay up there day after day.

Is enric Mas the most dull rider in existence? I don't ever recall seeing him ever attack and he just follows wheels every single day. Consistently top 10 though. Good for movistar of late. That team needs a big overhaul considering how much money they have to spend.

Itv4 is live, starts a bit later but it's there. On itv hub
I watch the ITV stream it’s great they even do a pretty good job of squeezing in the breaks around the action which is a real challenge this year with things kicking off left and right!

The ride yesterday from Pidcock was absolutely sensational, his speed on the descents was terrifying he was passing other rider like they were standing still. The near miss with that concrete barrier must have got his adrenaline levels sky high! He looks like he is going to be a real challenger going forward will be interesting to see if he goes all in for grand tours and focussed on his climbing or if he focuses on the classics and maintains his current punchier style and build.

150km of riding that included some absolutely massive climbs as well, the fitness of everyone in the peloton is staggering and the guys winning these sort of stages are incredible.

I was listening to an interview from a TdF rider from about 10 years ago and he said one of the big differences now is that its just brutal 100% of the time nearly. There is no letting up from start to finish. You can't take it easy at the start of any stage.
