Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

Sagan being followed on the descent by a motorbike, wow.....

Will there be punishment on Barguil for basically being a total muppet and endangering other riders and causing a crash? Surely something should be done to him for what he caused!

Some of the descending yesterday was amazing. Im sad to see that Sagan's chances of a stage victory are all but gone now. Hes been everywhere on this tour!

Sagan will be team leader when Contador falls off, or he'll go to another team where he can go for GC. Considering what he's capable of when he's essentially unsupported he should definitely have a chance at some GC wins in the future.

Yet no-one accuses him of doping...?

I was thinking that too. However you don't need to be doped to descend like he does. Incredible skills, shifting his weight, picking his lines. riding on the limit of what's possible. In contrast Tony Gallopin seemed to have totally bottled it which was a surprise after seeing him descend on Stage 6 of Paris Nice when it was wet and very dangerous. Yesterday he looked like me descending!

No but he is a sprinter who can climb which for me is always the most dubious of mixes given the power requirements for a sprinter, still I have no reason to believe he is a cheat so I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think his chances this year have been hampered by the team riding for Contador so he hasn't had the support he needs to win more stages. Still another green jersey is nailed on and he looks like he will develop into an interesting contender in the next few years.

Was a good interview. Certainly none of your sterile cliché riddled sports interviews we get so often. Nice to see personalities.

I liked the interview he did in the first week where he took the microphone and interviewed Ned Boulting instead :D

Haha yeah that one's brilliant too. There's a couple from last year (Vuelta?) where he pretends to not have even ridden the race and was spectating, think he did it to a foreign interviewer and the guy is looking really worried that he's interviewing some random and not a rider. :D

Originally started to follow G as he's Welsh (as am I) and I picked up a jersey made to celebrate him winning in the commonwelth games (?). The more I've followed and watched him he's rapidly become my favourite rider.

Did you watch the highlights ? I only ask as Barguil was bumped by another rider which forced him to take the inside and strange line which then gave him no option but to ride into Geraint.

Saw the highlights and several slo-mo's. You can see TVG and him bumping and both going far too fast into the corner. It looks almost as if TVG was trying to block him moving up and they both missed any kind of 'braking zone' putting them totally outside of any racing line, probably in the heat of the moment? He's quite lucky someone was there to slow him, without the impact he'd have gone over the side harder and faster than G!

Yeah, gutted for him to not at least have a stage win! Think that's 16 second places at the Tour now?! :o

Still a great rider with a great future ahead of him. Just hope his english gets better lol...

I was teasing really - he had a pretty stunning MTB career at a very young age and doesn't have the mid twenties jump in performance like Froome that people like to point to.

How's your Slovakian Roady? ;)

Lepšie ako vy ;)

Haha brilliant! Anyone know what they are? I imagine owning a pair will become quite sought after in future...

I expect this to be about as effective as Obama releasing his birth certificate.

Lol agreed, quite surprised Sky releasing data (while the Tour is still ongoing) which they have previously been so secretive over. They usually don't rise to scrutiny like that? Also Quite a poor show over 'France 2' putting Brailsford on the spot like that with their so called expert getting things so wrong! Over 1 watts per kilo is a big difference! :o

He's always ridden as more of a domestique/puncheur who can now sprint with the best. Although he doesn't seem to do much leading out... I actually prefer him as more of the puncheur role in previous years than the sprinter type he is now.
