Pro Cycling Discussion Thread 2015

He was a solo rider chasing back on after a crash. The others trying to stay on his wheel are not chasing - they have been dropped on the climb.

I dont think he should have been thrown out, this sort of thing happens all the time.

I haven't watched the whole stage so not sure, just the last 15km on Eurosport so I wasn't aware that was the case, I assumed they were all caught behind the crash.

The riders behind have no reason to chase on if their team leaders are up the road and its to their advantage if nibali loses time.

Are Katusha only sending 8 riders?

Depends how many handles they have on their team cars... Count them and you'll get the team number? :D

Hehe just seen this. He has not had a good year, but do not feel sorry for him. Really can't stand the bloke.

Yeah no sympathy for him. Good rider, bad attitude. Bad team. In my opinion there are more deserving teams than Astana who should've been given a chance - I just feel they're not as clean as they say/should be.

I should have taken that bet!

Yup! Kudos to him, it's been long overdue! Although he did come pretty close in the TTT! ;)

Is it just me that thinks David Millar is a smarmy **** that knows very little given his expert status?

Some gems from the stage two days ago;
"Sagan will be delighted in this group, he knows there is no-one that can beat him in a sprint" (errrr it's pretty steep so what about Sanchez, Degenkolb, Valverde (as was the case), Rodriguez etc)
Lead commentator: "Surely he's gone far too early?!" Millar: "No, Degenkolb is in a great position here" (after Degenkolb goes with 3.5km to go, pops seconds later and drops out the arse of the peloton)

He just doesn't seem to do much research but maybe I'm just aggrieved after reading one too many of his "how to be a stylish cyclist like me, stylish cyclist and Castelli king David Millar" articles.

Tremendous win from Caleb Ewan yesterday anyway, interested to see where his career goes from here. He could definitely be a Classics man or a puncheur in the Rodriguez type mould with his build.

Too small for a classics rider IMO, but it works to his advantage in a sprint Cav style though, you couldn't even see him behind his OGE train so must be super aero. If they build a team round him he could go well if the weathers OK but on a bad weather day or hilly course I'm not sure.

I was a little surprised to see him win, but the team did a great job getting on the front and guiding him through the twisty lead up to the sprint, you see Sagan come to go and instead of turning on the afterburners his legs just go boom and he has nothing.

I personally love Ned and David as commentators, so refreshing compared to Phil, Paul and Carlton. ITV's coverage in general has been pretty spot on, lots of insightful pieces, interviews and very well edited race footage. Almost makes up for them not showing it live.

It would have been good if Freeview could have NOT scheduled a retune RIGHT in the middle of the Vuelta

Couldn't work out why my Humax box wasn't recording the highlights, was about to beat it into a pulp with a club hammer and then happened to turn on ITV4 on the other TV, only to find it had moved

Retuned.

Tonight dictates whether the Humax box gets it...

I was thinking more towards the Ardennes Classics and MSR than the rest. I feel like he has to specialise as a bit as he's never going to have the pure power of Kittel or Greipel. We'll have to wait and see, it's his first year as a pro so early days yet.

Neither does Cav. And you have to consider that he's only 21. He has the better part of a decade as a potential top level sprinter. Whoever he's up against, it won't be Kittel and Greipel for most of it.

I couldn't figure out why my Panasonic PVR hadn't recorded the highlights on series link either. Figured it out for the same reason last night as well!

The retune annoyed me too.
I wanted to watch the start of Stage 4 from Estepona as I've been there on holiday lots. I turned the TV to ITV4 to be told the channel didn't exist and missed it :mad:

David Millar's commentary is annoying me too.
He talks through the on screen action in micro detail telling us where riders are going and what they are doing and they always end up doing the complete opposite.

In your quote above he also said said that Sagan "could win the race with one leg" - lol :D
