Project - 37a (Wendyhouse)

Thank you. It is textured, I'm very happy with how it's turned out and believe me the keyboard and mouse have their bags packed ready to get in there!

I wish I could take the credit for the paper but it was the Mrs choice.

Great progress and build, it's nice to see something different to just my new computer desk. Great work, looks really tidy and clean and as I say nice to see a whole 'building' designed for the computer and not just a new desk!

Non-photographic update

Glossing of the window sills has been done as well as second coat onto the skirting as they needed it a bit.
Not too sure when the next update will be now :-/

just hurry up and get it finished, geeez ya dragging out a bit aint ya hehe ;p

Believe me I'd be in there now if I could be.

Non photographic update

Apologies for another non photographic.

So today the window sills have had their gloss coat, once dry the office side painting is done! Have also found a lamp shade that didn't offend me and still leaves enough bulb to use the IR remote.

The best bit of today is the MikroTik RB3011UiAS-RM has moved in meant a complete turn upside down of my home network and a lot of reconfiguring in the house but all done now and just starting to "polish" the config.

Still tossing and turning over laminate wood flooring or carpet though.

No, I am sorry, that just won't do... we must have some more photographs! :D

Sounds as if it is all coming on well though!

Flooring done

So I had booked the day off work and managed to spend most of it in the cave, I have NEVER done anything with flooring before but todays effort looks like this;

Floor in, rack in

Desk still needs assembly

My shiny new RB3011 (CRS125 underneath it)

Sofa will live here

TV will live here

Mancave needs keyring right?

Lampshade as mentioned in earlier post, pain in the what-sit to fit but it doesn't look bad on and doesn't block too much of the multi colour LED goodness

The flooring was the cheap £10 B&Q oak panel stuff, used the 6mm fibre board underlay with a layer of damp proof membrane under it. Rather than using the matching trim stuff round the edges I have opted for the screwfix self adhesive 25mmx16mm trunking, not only does it hide a multitude of sins but it also will house the various aerial and network cables to the TV but also the monitoring system I will use.

Looking good :)
My favourite part of this whole project is the networking stuff though, love the idea of having premium grade networking hardware instead of the rubbish that the ISPs and consumer grade offerings use.

I do love my networking, plus I actually work for the ISP so I have no excuse but to have all of the toys.

That's the job man. Was the flooring difficult to put down?

Flooring wasn't too difficult, first few planks I was a bit fingers and thumbs but after that I started to get a rhythm. Time will tell though.

Floor looks great.

Can I ask what you intend to plug in to all those switch ports in such a small room?

Top RB3011 is my edge router (to use a rough phrase) the white switch is for the 3 pcs on my desk, 3 servers in the rack, 2 devices into the TV stand and some room to play, I'm going to look at aggregation into at least 1 of the servers and the CRS will be acting as a VPN client for work on 4 of the ports of which at least 2 will double into both my Linux and Windows PC's. Add the network monitoring stuff and uplinks to the CPE and house and that CRS will be quite full.

The FSM is a place holder for the time being.

TV stand and desk

So it was the boys birthday so I've had a day of none action on the cave. Once to bed however I have managed to sneak in a quick build.

TV stand which is Ikea Trofast is predominantly children's toy storage but will be handy as I then don't have to get a separate storage unit for my man toys. At the side is super comfy but looking battered Staples fake-leather chair

New desk, this is the 2M Ikea Linnmonn(sp?) desk

**FYI This is the first post made from the cave itself!!**

Now we're talking, congrats! When's the party?

Very good!... but more importantly... are we all invited? ;)

It'll be an online Arma3 Wasteland or Star Wars battlefront party lol.

Small update for today, blinds are up, polished aluminium look ones, look pretty nice and yes I've injured myself doing it :-(

Light sabres at the ready then! :)

Hope the injury is not too serious though... you don't want to be out of action now that the project is so close to completion!
