Project Android

Not that much to show this time, but here you go anyway;

First I filed down the chest plate a bit, so that it slots over the bolts holding the ribs down. It all fits nice and snugly now.

The other job I have done , is to make the network ports in the spine. As you can see from the following pic, I have snapped 2 inline networkcouplers in half and turned them 90 degrees which was much easier to do than I expexcted;

The back of the body has holes cut in it, in the shape of the RJ45 plug;

And finally a pic of all the sockets in the spine. The 2 network ones were the last I needed to do, which means I can now start work on smoothing out the inside using car body filler.

Yeah, the reason why it stands out so much is because ive filled it in with epoxy putty and sanded it smooth ready for painting. No need to quote all the pics by the way mate.

No, you repeated comments similar to ones that have been posted several times in this thread already. I don't mind a lugh, but it gets a bit boring after 4-5 times tbh.

how much did the original maniquin cost?

£30 from what I remember. Probably not worth quite that, but it was the only one that was suitable really. All the other were either full ones, or half ones, but with no head.

No updates yet im afraid. Been really busy recently so ive had no time or energy to do any more work on the thing. Ive been talking to M!!cook about some possible eye replacements. Should be really cool if I can get hold of them and working properly. Should allow the eyes to move. :) Not thought about the waterloop yet tbh. Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on this? Basically I need the smallest water cooling parts available, including a 80.1 rad. The block needs to be able to fit a s370 or possibly a socket A AFAIK.

A quick update. Ive been out and bought some more epoxy putty, and ive started moulding the plugs into the body;

The next step is to use car body filler to build it all up and make the inside smooth. I also bought the paint today... White gloss and black matt. :)

Nice :)

won't all that epoxy make replacing cables and plugs a nightmare?

Yup. But hopefully they will never need to be replaced, and without the epoxy they run the risk of falling off.

ohh... cant wait for the finish project, out of 100%, how much you think you done mate? :)
80% ish i'd say. Most of the major work is done, but its the finishing bits that will really make the thing look cool.

I'm so looking forward to seeing her painted.
WORK FASTER DAMN YOU!

Yeah Yeah! :p Hopefully this weekend I will be up to my armpits in car body filler(Or should that be android body filler) I think once thats doen and sanded down, im going to paint the stomach plate to see what it looks like.

Yeah. Unfortunately I don't really have any scrap. I stupidly threw out the tiny bit that I did have. However the stomach will be the test piece, as it will be easy enough to sand off if it all goes wrong.

Nope, not yet. I was going to do quite a bit on Sunday but I ended up tidying the garage/workspace instead. Hopefully a fairly significan't update will be up by the end of this weekend though.

Progress has been made, but I havent taken any pics of it yet. Im off work on thursday/friday, so hopefully I will get quite a lot of work done. I certainly need the time as this next step is going to take me ages.(Sanding and polishing car body filler :( ) Cheers about the website.. Don't worry as there is no rush. Catch me on msn sometime and we'll have a chat about it. Yeah, ive been quite busy recently, im at 6th form as well... working there. :)

Yeah, I really should start rehosting the pics shouldn't I? Ive not thought too much about stuff like the power LED. But I recon white or blue would be best. Im also going to be adding detail to the inside of the thing, by glueing wire and mechanical 'bits' to the inside before painting.

Im using an epoxy car body filler to thicken the body and to eventually make a smooth surface to paint. As the body filler is quite hard to work with, im having to use a cellulose filler ontop of that to make it as smooth as possible. Im currently sanding and what a hellish job it is as well. Can't say this is my favourite job so far.

Nope, it certainly not a LAN case. Not that I go to LAN parties anyway tbh. Im not really worried about the weight at all, but its certainly adding up.

Used to smooth metal sheets before painting? So do you remove it then aint, because as it stands, it's rough.

Sorry to sound noobish but I'm just very curious...

Its an epoxy filler. You get a tub of gray stuff and a tube of yellow hardener. You mix bit of them together and apply to the car/android/whatever. After 30-45 minutes it sets hard. You then sand it down to a smooth finish, apply primer and them paint. Im currently doing the sanding which is slowly getting there;
