Project: Angel

I sleeved my 24 pin, extension that is and the last wire snapped. I made a perfect job of it too. I felt like crying. Now I've ran out of MurderMod heat shrink and I've had to buy another extension.

Oh well, I'll have to do it again. I know I could have messed with replacing cable but don't like doing stuff like that.

Taping the cables is a bad idea imo as the tape will ruin an flexibility of the cable and should it come loose under the braid I wouldn't be happy.

I thought of spraying the cables or even dipping them. Hell I even thought of changing the cables themselves but tbh I'm getting so frustrated constantly waiting for bits and pieces to arrive I just went with the blue in the end which seems to work quite nice with the Gigabyte board.

That is one problem and that is ruining the flexibility of the cables, was just a suggestion of what other people have done :)

Blue looks good anyway and matches your board so its all good :D

with all the projects going on i really wanna do one :p
looking good so far, one question though, why braid the psu?

Update

Not so much of an update but an extension of the braiding session. I've finally done with the 3mm braid! Yay for me :D

ATX24 + 8Pin done previously.

Now I've also done four sets of 8pin PCIe cables. I had a little trouble with these as the hole in the plug seemed to be smaller preventing correct fitment of the braid + heatshrink. I tried various measurement but found the best to be sealing the heatshrink up as far as the metal on the pin as follows:

With this measurement, both the braid and shrink fit nice and snug into the plug without preventing the metal tabs from latching. None of the cable is visible either which, afterall is the whole point of braiding.:

Rather than have the whole cables braided separately for the full length (which looks nice but messy when installed imo), I opted to seal the cables a third of the way up with just one large piece of braid. This will hopefully allow for neater cable tidying when building the rig up.

Almost done now. I might do a little something with the plugs to jazz them up a touch.

Next for the SATA, Molex and misc cable braiding...I swear it's never ending:(.

Yup thats right. The pay for the sponsorship with the goods they supply.

E.g Mountainmods made and supplied the case especially for this build. Enermax generously sponsored the build by supplying the fans and PSU.

dumb quesstion, but how do you get sponsered?
keep up the good work, really looking forward to more pics and the finished product:D

....build it and they will come:).

Basicly do a top job of your build but perhaps more importantly, make it stand out from the crowd. Hopefully your efforts will get noticed. Believe it or not many reps read enthusiast forums. ;)

They don't just hand out freebies for fun though, they are looking for a return on their investment. The couple of previous MM builds I did got a fair bit of attraction on the various forums I post on as well as the You tube vids I made. I guess this attention in turn leads to generate sales.

so you don`t get any cash, but you own the pc and can sell it at a later date?

Hmmm, The case cost in excess of £550. The fans and PSU another £350. I would say thats not bad going for something I love doing especially during times when magazines are pleading for manufacturers to advertise at rock bottom prices.

I won't comment on the cash question but needless to say, I am more than satisfied with the arrangements I have in place:D.

haha thank you, always wanted to know how:D
sounds like itll leave a dent in your wallet, but fun at the same time:p
going by all of that, your doing a great job, cant wait for the next update

Just an idea for the 'next' time but might be an idea to match the heatshrink with the plug.
The white shrink and white braid looks the business, but the blue on blue is less successful imho.

It will all get lost in the completed build I know, and macro shots of plugs and cables on
white backgrounds is nothing like a complete build - just jumps out at me currently, thats all :o

Wonder if I will get sponsored by Thermaltake, for making the Mozart case look half decent :D

LOL, maybe Hovis might want to sponsor you?:D

Gah, no access to a pc that'll let me see the pics for a few weeks - hope there's lots more by then. :) Have you finished sleeving everything - seems to have taken forever!

Nah m8, not finished sleeving yet. I have a load on at work and also doing the reviews along with kids holidays coming up there just seems to be little time for myself. The only time I really get to do anything is at the weekends and even then only when the missus permits!
