Project Cars 2 is en route :D

Project Cars 1 offered a great selection of cars and tracks, a career mode, good graphics and different weather. But I just didn't like how the cars felt. I'd much rather drive laps in Assetto, Iracing, Automobilsta and Rfactor to it. Hopefully they sort the handling out for 2. Also the AI or 'move ***** get out my way' was rather annoying. I try to do races but give up after getting punted off the track by the AI a number of times.

incomplete version i had of PC1 looked and played better than full game on xbox one lol, dont like it, but own it as it was free with gold, problem for me is the graphics looked worse and i dont like the 'too close' to car camera angle, hopefully 2 will be an improvement on that.

missed this, quite a good watch even though the guy is as condescending as they come, it's like he's explaining this to a bunch of 8 year olds. Game is sounding very very good though, some very nice features and improvements in there. And finally some competitive online racing and league progression IRacing style.

The handling needed a lot of tweaking for each car to get them to feel right, which was really annoying. They felt dead without a lot of tinkering as apposed to AC which felt great out of the box.

I disagree, I enjoy working on a racing career, working my ranks up, earning money to unlock the next tier, upgrading my car/team. I think it would be a great addition to have as an option when creating a new profile... Further more to the unlocking era. Now it's a "Here's 60% of the cars, the other 40% is in day 1 DLC's or pre order DLC's... ENJOY!". So yea, the current era is worse.

A proper career mode is what I crave from a racing game.

Ditto.

I'm tempted with Forza Horizons 3, it's very arcadey by the looks of it, but could be fun!

forza horizon 3 is brilliant and doesnt feel arcade like at all, certainly not compared to project cars, i have both on xbox so cant speak for pc, but the xbox version of project just seems awful, my incomplete pc version looked and felt 10 times better even if the AI are useless, just lacked stuff obviously.

it depends if you played and liked horizon 1 & 2 as 3 is just an improvement in a lot of cases, prefer it to forza 6, felt the mechanics was off, same tune on same car in fh3 didnt work in F6 making it awful to play.

What is the career like? In car models? I'm still on the border, I LOVED Forza 3 back in the day, not really played any since then.

Bit off topic but I thought the first game had the most overhyped graphics of recent times.

All those screenshots posted were such a false representation of the game. As soon as you play it you realise that

1. The tracks look poor relative to far more dated sims like iRacing, low resolution textures everywhere.
2. Regular object pop in
3. Poor AA resulting in lots of jaggies and flickering shadows

In motion the game is a mess to look at, not impressive. Im of the view that racing sims should be smooth and clean looking with no visual artefacts to distract, pcars is the polar opposite to this.

Horizon 3 doesn't feel arcade? I agree it's great but I must have been playing a different game:p

Wow I can only imagine youre at it as I thought the graphics were and still are one of the best ive seen in any game, and definatly the best racing game ive seen graphically.

It depends what you prioritise when it comes to graphics for racing games. For me a clean image is the most important thing, therefore i consider high quality AA a must as well as no object pop in or flickering shadows etc. Pcars suffers in all these areas. Im fully aware its graphics engine is far more advanced than every other racing game out there but so long as it's got poor AA and lots of visual artefacts/noise when in motion then it's not going to impress me.

Im not alone in this view either, lots of sim heads will prioritise a clean image... there was a big thread about it on the pCars forum during its early development.

Would love to know what game you have been playing, it certainly isn't Project Cars. Maybe you've not got a rig that can handle the game with the settings cranked up, but for myself and the group of racing friends I have, it's without doubt one of the best looking if not the best looking racing game out there. It bloody stunning.

Iracing has always been regarded as the worst looking racing sim visually for one whilst Project Cars has always been regarded as the best.

Object pop in, never experienced it but I run the game totally maxed out.

Jaggies??? Ummm no idea, have you not been using any AA at all? Thee game has some of the best AA options in a racing game I've seen ranging from the ugly FXAA, msaa, SMAA, and even DSX2 DSX4 DSX8 etc. I run my game at 1440p with DSX2 maxed out and it's breath taking.

As I said, what looks great to you doesn't look so great to me. You may not notice the issues with AA or the low res track textures but I do. It has tons of AA options but none of them work that well because of the nature of the lighting engine... this isn't an assumption, it's what a dev said during development of the game when asked why NFS shift 1 had perfect AA but NFS Shift 2 and pCars didn't.

I have the exact same version of the game as you, im running it at 1440p on a very good PC with the best possible AA options and it does not look clean to my eyes. It may look so to you but im a fussy **** when it comes to this stuff... especially in racing sims.

If you turn off all the overdone hollywood post processing you'll see the quality of the track/environment is nothing special. The lighting engine is admittedly fantastic.

Career is long and grindy, In car models are actually pretty nice (and outside too). However it is VERY much an arcade racer, it's good fun to pick up and play every now and then.
