Project: Cool Dragon

Update: Cable sleeving :D

I used 2 staples to release the pins

A little delivery arrived for me :D

The fans came with loads of rubber to reduce vibration which unfortunately I won't be able to use as my radiator screws aren't long enough and there isn't enough clearance between the fans and the motherboard. However, they did come with pre-sleaved cables which was nice to see (with 2 sizes available )

Also, I found out my blue sleeving is UV reactive but I won't be installing UV cathodes so not really a feature I will use ;).

Cable braiding mess.

I used a hair dryer to shrink the heat shrink.

Fans installed.

I received this in the post. Ugly hey?

And here are the finished cables. I haven't taken a picture of the CPU 8 pin power extension (even though I braided it as well) as I had to install it before I installed the fans. Also, ignore the fact that the ends of the 24 pin mobo cable aren't completely covered. I accidentally cut my sleeving a little short but it will be behind the mobo tray so you won't see it.

Hope my 5850 comes quick :(

Also, many thanks to engstrom0304 who gave me this beautiful watercool pump top for my birthday :D

Also, I bought a 60 degree fitting to come out of the res as my 90 degree one was too sharper angle and a bit dodgy leak wise.

Hopefully I will have the rest soon :D

Your DVD player and subwoofer look just like mine! I've had mine for years and as it does the surround sound in the lounge a replacement with blu-ray has yet to be identified that passes the stringent requirements of the Mrs!

Looking good so far, ive got the Lian Li version of this case PC-P50WB and used the same 280 rad at the top.
ive got my fans exhausting up over as youve decided to do yours too.. works really well i went for Yate Loon 140mm fans shipped from germany, 2300rpm :O great when ran on a controller, the lian li fans barely even moved a piece of a4 paper above the case...
as has been said previously the dense core design on these rads do need better fans than the stock 1000rpm.

keep up the good work

might be a little it late to tell you this but you could have used black + blue braid that is combined.

The same shop I bought it from carries black and blue, but I use blue and white like this

The reason I chose the braid I did was because it was super cheap and I managed to strike a deal and get 5M of braid free. Otherwise, I would have gone for more expensive higher quality stuff (which I will probably do in the future) but for now the stuff I have will do the job just fine. Cheers for the pic though :D

Just to let everyone know I spoke to the shop I bought my 5850 from and they are expecting a sapphire shipment on wednesday next week. I will definitely have news by friday evening though because the 'reasonable time' I have to wait for a replacement to arrive (28 days) will be over and the shop will be forced to either offer me a new GPU from stock or cash/credit to buy another.

Thanks for the great link on sleeving. Very informative.

There's a link to MurderMods on that page that doesn't seem to be creating sleeving at the moment. Does anyone know if they are/were as good as the author of that guide makes out?

UPDATE:

Just to let you guys know I have some movement on the 5850. Basically, the sapphire card is long gone and I have had talks with the shop but the problem is as the reference 5850s are no longer in production they couldn't (initially) offer me a reference PCB 5850 and the cash refund option was a lot less than I was hoping (even less than the value of the card they were offering me!!!) but the guy on the phone refused to give me the value of the card they would give me but in cash. Therefore, I asked to speak to his manager and he transfered me. I explained the situation to his manager and he basically offered me the cash value of the non-reference style 5850 they were offering me. However, I made a last and final plee to see if they had any reference style PCB 5850s lying around and he happened to have an ASUS 5850 (reference style PCB). However, the ASUS one is not new and although he didn't tell me I assume it is a repaired replacement/returned card therefore they are going to test it tomorrow. However, they said if it passed the tests they would send it out to me with saturday delivery and it would either arrive saturday or monday. However, if it doesn't pass their tests they still offered me the cash value of a new 5850 (the non reference PCB one they offered me) so hopefully I will start building either this weekend or early next week (depending on work load) :D

Damn I am happy to get some news!
