Looks a good space and a nice flat floor. How big is yours going to be? Any progress on it?

I have managed a bit of progress in the last week and hopefully will get the front stud wall that holds the door and window completed this weekend.

The room will be 2.4m x 2.4 so fairly small but more than enough for my desk and chair and still leaves plenty of room in the garage for a car and other projects.

Build will include 50mm celotex to walls and floor and rockwool in the ceiling.

Found a site selling used upvc doors and window for a reasonable price so got these delivered last week.

Hoping it will look something like this when finished

^ Is this like some WFH pod thing? I feel it must be a bit depressing in the morning having to get up then go and spend your day working in some tiny shed at the bottom of the garden or in this case inside the garage on your own. If I was WFH I'd want to be in the comfort of my home.

Some people like the seperation of work space from home space, but also like the flexibility of working from home at the same time…..id rather walk to one of those pods, than spend an hour in the car getting to the office, to do exactly what i can do working from home.

100% this. I've got an office built in the garden and even though it's only 10 seconds from the back doors of the house the separation creates a clean line between being at work opposed to "keeping an eye on work" whilst sat on the sofa and being distracted by home life. As for depressing, knowing that I'm no longer spending 3+ hours a day commuting or spending a fortune on said commuting and work lunches is the complete opposite. One of the few positives to come out of the whole covid pandemic.

Depends on role I think. For proper thinking type jobs, being in a different environment (or at least having the option) is a big win.

Bit of a minor update in the hope it kicks my arse to get on with some jobs to get everything finished. Really lacking motivation to get on with bits the past few months. In the winter it was so nice to be in a nice warm, clean room instead of a cold dusty garage.

Since moving in I've been using Powerline adaptors which tbh work perfectly fine and I get decent speeds. However, I recently got full fiber fitted, so I decided to get on and terminate the network cables I ran from the sockets in the room to the garage side.

I now need to run my external CAT6 to the house and terminate both ends so give some faster speeds in the garage.

All tested OK as well which was a relief.

This is how my desk is currently configured. I spent some time re-doing the cabling on the desk as well to keep it tidy and make it stay that way when it went up and down. I've gone under and pointed up to capture the wires, but when stood in the room you can't see any cables regardless of the desks height.

Currenlty sporting 2x 24" and 1x 34" Monitors + Surface Pro 4 for some Sky Go F1 Practice!

I was also demo/testing a 49" for a few months, the picture doesn't do it justice, the thing was mahoosive! I actually found it too big with not enough of a curve to it tbh.

During the winter the room was nice and warm in quick time with the new heater, but there was a draft coming through at the bottom of the door. I wanted something to stop this but didn't want to permanently attach anything. Chose the below that stopped the draft well but is a bit crappy to look at and I constantly have to re-align it. On the lookout for something better to achieve this if anyone can recommend anything?

So now I need to tidy up the garage side which currently looks like the below. Plan is to tape and joint the boards, sand and paint. Then fit Arcitrave and Skirting to finish it off before kitting the garage side out with shelving to store all the stuff I have stashed away.

Also need to put a Window Board in, and maybe some 'perfect fit' blinds.

Also need to crack on with making the room a bit more personable and not just an empty room with my desk in. Currently awaiting a grey Kallax to come into stock in my local IKEA so that can be assembled and used to display some Lego & other bits I've got in boxes. Also want to get some shelves and pictures put up.

Do like the PHL346, have that one at home (on loan from work) not bad for gaming on either though struggle with the PHL499? Possibly PHL498 you have there as although it's great for productivity, one of the packages we use in work hates being run @ 5120x2160 and I find anything less look horrible on it

Hi,

Yep, both are great monitors. I can't remember the exact model of the 49" or the rest it ran at that I had, but I was told it was there top spec/premium version. We've got thousands of the Philips USB-C monitors at work, and they've been pretty flawless for us. This setup works well for me with the Ultrawide in the middle and a 24" either side of it.
