Phase 1
For a number of years, I've always admired those who build small form factors PCs and some of the cases, but I've never had the opportunity to build one as the parts tend to be more expensive compared to budget ATX builds. Well, now that has all changed. Christmas is over and I have managed to save some cash to start an SFF build.

While I love the 600T, I just find the case a little too big and empty. I'm not likely to setup a custom water cooling loop or run more than 2 graphics cards at the same time, so a micro build seems fitting and I could really do with having more space on my desk. My wife also thinks it's an eyesore, so this gives me the perfect excuse to downsize.

The Plan
The aim is to condense my current build, which is situated in a Corsair 600T (stunning and well designed case by the way) into a seriously sexy, sleek and unique case, The Parvum S2.0. This case has been on my books for a while and considered getting the S1, but with only a few weeks before release, it seemed more sensible to wait. Red and Black is my chosen colour scheme, my son loves red so it seemed quite fitting.

Current Spec:
• Intel 2500k @ 4.5
• Corsair H100i (Stock Fans, Custom Curve)
• AsRock Z68 Extreme 7 Gen 3
• 8gb Patriot Viper "Sapphire Blue" RAM
• 128gb OCZ Vertex 4 (OS Drive)
• 250gb Samsung 840 (Games Drive)
• Corsair HX850+ Gold
• Corsair 600T (With side panel Mod)
• BitFenix Recon

The new build will add the following:

• Asus Maximus V Gene
• Parvum S2.0 - Black & Red
• 4x 120mm BitFenix Spectra Pro's PWM - Red (2 for front of case, 2 for H100i)
• 3x 80mm Noiseblocker Multiframe S-frame - Black
• 1x 30cm BitFenix Alchemy Premium Modding LED strip
• Bitfenix Recon will be kept and mounted behind the motherboard tray

The colour scheme will simply be red & black, with matching cables. 2x PCIe cables, 8Pin EPS will be braided red & black, Sequence will be 2-red and 2-black and a custom 20cm 24Pin to match. The braiding will be done by the kind Davido_Libido whose work (link) is outstanding. Using teleios braiding as it's hardwearing and doesn't attract dust, unlike the BitFenix extensions, I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

While my RAM may still be blue, I have managed to persuade my sister to swap as the has the black version, which would be better suited to the colour scheme. I also, at this point, have no intention of changing the stock fans on the H100i, they are silent and I couldn't be more impressed.

I will update the log as and when I get the case which I should be able to order at the end of January.

When respoding to posts, please do not quote images

So far I only have the motherboard, which I can tell you is stunning :D I've taken a few shots, but I'm having issues with light :(

Cable Braiding Designs - Here are some of the designs I've been thinking about. Need time to mull it over! Suggestions?? :D

24 Pin v1 (This has to be my favourite design)

8 Pin EPS

PCIe Connectors as they would be when connected

My only issue here is the fact my 7970 uses an 8 pin and a 6 pin. This means whatever symetrical design I come up with, pins 7&8 on the right-hand connector will be redundant. I may have to remove pins 7&8 and go with a 14pin design.

I seriously love this, tell me what you think?!

So, I arrived home from work, taking 1/2 day AL, to find this

20z8abq.jpg

Spent some time clearing the kitchen table to make room and immidiatley started building the case. My only annoyance when starting was the need to use their YouTube channel for instructions. I know why they didnt include instructions, but it's just as well I had my smart phone.

Starting at the base, building bottom to top

Base, rear & motherboard tray connected

Front Panel

Silverstones installed

Starting on the rear of the case - I was not convinced the PSU would fit as when building, the space looked very small

2ilmo1x.jpg

SSDs installed - I tried to mount them on the HDD mount, but the screws supplied with the case were the wrong diameter. Back to my trusty velcro :)

Braided Cables pulled through, these will need to be cleaned up as they are not staying bunched together (another time)

Cable management - I had considered not adding my mech drive, but when I tested to see if there was space, it slotted right in there, despite my PCIE cabled & CPU EPS being bunched in there too!

H100, GPU and rear fans installed - the top 80mm is faulty, RMA required. I have tested the same fan controller cable with another fan, works perfectly!

Connected all peripherals - booted first time

However, this was not the end of my issues.

When I booted the PC UP, the mouse and keyboard refused to work. I had to disconnect/connect multiple times as well as reboot the PC in order to use the peripherls. What made it worse was Windows was unable to install any generic network drivers. At a loss, I re-installed windows, loosing my password vault file & my missus saved data on Firefox - didnt go down well at all.

Anyway, Windows installed, used a friends laptop to download the network drivers and all is well. BIOS updated, USB3 drivers installed and all appears to be working now.

Overclock her not been applied yet as its a new board and I'm not used to the layout/references.

Can't wait to see this, been waiting for you're project for some time.. (i don't stalk you, honest).

Why the german name too? :D

So sorry mate, i feel bad for not before not able to complete my 2011 build. I was so intent on completing it, but funds did not allow as well as the lack of space. (case being ATX and part of the reason for downscaling). Partial funds were there, but things throwing it back and these things cannot be pushed aside :(

After careful consideration, I had to reconsider my priorities and well......sadly, I didn't have a need for that power or the justification to spend the funds. Using this 2500k has been more than enough for me over the past few months and I'm really impressed.

I appreciate your patience and I'm so excited to get this going. Its going to be great fun.

I went with the German name as I couldn't think of anything else which would describe downsizing in a creative way, using a German description may capture peoples attention into reading. I did think of Dwarf, but decided against it, didn't quite fit.

Viel Glück :D

Danke ;)

Don't apolgise to me mate. :)

Im glad this is getting of the ground. I love you're ideas and can't wait to see it come together..

For some reason, I feel I have too!

I'm really looking forward to this and my wife is surprisingly supportive but on the basis I don't change anything major for a good 12 months

Backplate will have to wait until the end of Jan as I need to get the case first. Once the case has been purchased, I'll know what I will have spare. I also have Davido braiding for me and I want to make it worth his while!

Nice - looking forward to seeing this come together. That backplate looks awesome

Thanks bud!

I've been a right pain in the ass trying to get this case from Parvum & OcUK ;) Delays everywhere getting it released.

Hi snips86x,

Looking forward to this one. I see you've got your S2.0 on order! :)

Still waiting to hear back from Parvum about a custom extended S2.0 to allow a 360 rad in the roof. Got all the parts for my build now, just waiting for a nice new case to build it in!

Jim :)

S2?
nice to hear, I'm enquiring about my own case too jimbo, it's been a while but I know they're busy guys so no rush (though inside i'm crying)

Yeah, I had a conversation with one of the gents from Parvum and they are really busy getting stock ready & shipped for their international parter & OcUK. It would seem I'm not patient :p bet they are glad to get rid of me :D

I'm starting to like parvum cases more and more! Good job mate. I like the sleeving.

I have Davido Labido to thank for those :) Fantastic job he did!

Looks good :D Did you get new fans for the h100i in the end?

Love those cables.

Nah, never got them in the end - to save some cash, I just used the stock ones. They are superb. Silent and effective.

I do have an issue with an 80mm Noiseblocker fan, needs to be RMA'd

I have tested the 80mm fan on 2-3 different channels and it doesnt work. I've tested a 120mm non-pwm fan on the same channels and it works.

Would this mean it's dead?
