Project: Molten Gold

So the time has come! Molten Gold has its new update at last. It's a mix between big & small. Big in terms aesthetics, but small in terms of work done overall. Anyway, on with the show! I got myself a riser cable & decided if I couldn't get a full cover water block and back plate to make the gpu look decent, then it's only right that I show off the windforce cooling! So here it is, I give you, my sideways mounted gpu!

Ideally, I would love to be able to plastidip the blue, green and grey parts to the riser to a black finish, but I don't know if that's possible/safe to do so? Anyone able to help me on that one?

Rushed attempt at removing the gpu bracket braces, used a small drill bit to eat away until it could be snapped off. These bits will eventually get filed down & resprayed.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with it. Just gotta tidy it up & it's good!

If I did that I'd break my sound and network cards :D

Looks awesome mate, didn't expect that one at all!

Aha, I was so scared about breaking my graphics card doing this! Thanks man, glad you like the surprise :P

I quite like the gold, was going to go for just black but this is very temping :) Nice build :D

Do it! Black & gold will always look amazing ;)

Great news! The 8 pin pci-e black and gold bitfenix cable extensions are in stock, finally! So That along with more lighting & cable combs have been purchased. Those were the final small details I've been waiting to be able to do for a long time now so it's good to see it happening now :)

is scary that u have the gpu mounted that way i could never do that
It's scary at first but once it's in place it's fine, not going anywhere :)

Same, I'd have thought it would need some kind of mounting system so it doesn't sag or snap the bracket off.
You'd think so, wouldn't you? It seems fine though, despite it being held in place by one small screw aha!

This build log looks properly gorgeous mate, stunning piece of work! :)

Thanks so much man! Got more pictures going up, my new cables & lights came yeterday, thanks! :D

I'm not exactly the best when it comes to cable management, especially in tight places such as this! But OCUK finally managed to get some 8 pin pci-e black & gold bit fenix alchemy cable extensions in stock so I was able to buy one & some more light strips. This is how it's looking now :)

Looking good, are the board temps ok with the gpu blowing on it? I think it was a very brave choice of position. Is there anyway to camouflage your riser cable a bit, think it would look cooler all black.

Board temps are fine actually, only reached 60c the other day when we had that REALLY hot weather & I tried to play some GTA5 during the day. Other than that, it's been no problem at all (: Aha it's either brave or foolish :p Yeah, I want to plastidip it all black, but idk if that's safe? Like, which bits can't I spray (the connections obviously) & will it have any negative effects on performance/lifespan of the cable?

Nah I think it'll be safe enough, just cover the connector well enough you be ok.

I may just have to give it a go later in the week then if I have enough plastidip left :)

I'd LOVE to get all the cables custom made (by myself of course) at some point soon too, just the cost of it is a problem. If only someone would be willing to sponsor me to showcase their sleeving in this build, hint hint ;) :p

"I can sponsor you!" *looks at wallet (moth flies out)* :D:D
Seriously though, having seen the work and potential in this build it's a shame you don't have a limitless budget/sponsors as your work is astounding. Keep it up :)

Ah don't tease me like that ahaha! I have so much planned for this build, I'm going to update the first post & give some details on ideas of what I have planned, should I get the funding/sponsors I need. Thanks so much for the compliments though, it really does mean a lot!

As far as the plastidip goes, it's safe to use on pretty much anything apart from the connectors. It's non conductive, doesn't really affect temps too much and should be good with the flexible-ness of the cables.

I'd go for it!

Long time no updates! Issues with personal life things, blah blah blah. Anyway, I think (for now) Project Molten Gold has come to an end. A new project is in the watercooling pipelines & it fits in with my rustic theme! All I can say for now is wood & glass. Stay tuned for further updates & probably a new build log thread starting in the coming months :D
