Project Money Pit

Lol, You like to take things to the extreme don't you.

Extreme would be suggesting two alfa V6s (hell, its been done to a 164...), each with a Rotrex blower and each stroked out to 4 litres...with a progressive 100-shot of nitrous for giggles ;)

1000bhp Fiat Koop? ;)

The Fiat Koop along with the Alfa GTV should have been RWD from the factory. Taking an entire engine/box/suspension setup from a FWD car and putting it behind the seats is probably the easiest way of making a FWD car RWD.

Does the 164 have a detachable front subframe?

Where do you put the steering wheel :p

Great project! It wouldn't be fun if it was easy.. and the Coupe's engine bay certainly isn't the easiest to work on! The 20v engines are marvellous when they are all working

Make sure you keep this thread updated :D

Out the boot. You walk behind it and steer.

;)

Seriously though - lock the steering and the entire subframe assembly is fit to go in the back (just checked, the 164 does have one...google alfa 164 twin engined)... You 'simply' (;)) have to cut the floorpan to fit and link it up...

Keep the rad in the front, use NACA ducts in the rear side windows for air intakes...

Well, there really isn't a lot of room behind the seats to be honest. Because the Fiat actualy has rear seats the boot space is not particularly large. If this was a show car then I'm sure it could be made to fit by hacking the rear seats out, but I need that space if the sprog ever has to ride in the car :D

Oooooh, very very nice.

When changing the cam best "the book" says it's an engine out 9hr job, but you can cut it down to about 4.5hrs by tilting the engine on the mounts (one side loose, other side off).

How about the 164 Pro Car.

A very basic chassis, fibreglass 164 body, and an F1 engine.

Children are overrated. :p

Another great project thread :)

I'm glad this place is starting to feature some cool project logs - there's been too many "spec me a car" or "i've cleaned my car, so here's eleventy billion pictures" threads in the recent past ;)

We've got such a selection of different cars, different tastes and different levels of ability, it's great to finally be seeing some project logs ;)

Subscribed, and *****!

Nice piston damage :)

Any signs what caused it? Heat, step in bore, tight spot, badly gapped ring?

/subscribed. Love these project threads

I'm not a huge fan of the Fiat Coupe though, I really do find them offensive to look at ;)

Can't argue with the way they go though

I love Fiat Coupes so much (which is why I used to own one) but yes, they are money pits if you want to get one in A1 mechanical working order, and I dont care what Gilly or anyone else says, they are one of the best looking cars ever made, especially in Vinci grey or electric blue with the LE bodykit on. Plus, the LE/Plus recaro seats are some of the best seats I have ever sat in.

You're a much braver man than me!

I'd love to have the confidence to take all that stuff apart. I'd never get it back together though.

Instead, I'll just avoid using excessive boost. :p

Good luck mate, and welcome to the fold. :)

Ps If you were going to respray it, why would you go for a standard coupe colour. Dynajet orange for the win. :p
