Project: Need your thoughts/ideas

Hi there,

You can find one on a popular auction site no doubt, there are usually loads on there. When you reach 250 posts and been a member for 3 months you can join the Members Market and ask for one there I'm sure the members on here have some lying around.

The tight hard to reach areas weren't very much trouble, just gave them light blasts on each coat. Today its sunny and bright so it looks like I might be able to finish off the spraying, there are some mad looking clouds on the way though so I will have to be quick.

Managed to get the motherboard tray finished on Friday. Just got back from a weekend away, the weather looks grim outside - its throwing it down. Any suggestions for doing it indoors? Want to finish this project ASAP! :D

When I painted indoors I used the spare bathroom and lined the shower and imediate surrouning area with bin liners. It definately stopped the paint going everywhere. Make sue its well ventilated though.

Thats a good idea thanks. Thankfully today its not breezy and even though the sun has gone in its not raining so I can finish up the panels. Just applied the first coat to one of the panels, just hope it doesn't start raining.

I have one of those Noctua's sitting on my shelf that I need to install too. Have you installed yours since the weekend mate? Hope the move went well. Its raining badly outside which isnt good, hinders my spraying!
Hi Mish,

Nope - no go yet! Been super busy! But my Enzotech forged southbridge arrived so i'm all set for the install. Looks like i'll get it done this weekend... i truly cannot wait!

I totally got caught in the same weather! Have spent the last few days aquaplaning over the roads here in the lakes - commuting bits and pieces from one house to the other! I really love driving here... don't get me wrong... but i must have done a years worth in the past week! :( :p

The mobo tray came out nice mate! Hope the wind and rain clears enough for you to get some more done!

Good job!

I love the lake district its a lovely place. It must be nice driving around there, well all the best with the move and the installations :)

The weather has held out but the can hasn't!!! Just finished doing 2/3 panels I have and I've ran out of paint! which means I'm going to have to but a new can of paint just for the front bezel - what a waste!!

Bad luck with the paint fella! Always seems to happen to me that way too! :(

Will post pics of the 680i installation as soon as i get settled! :)

Hi Mish

Like the look of this project, just read through it today. Hope your Noctua fits in the new case! Keep us posted (no pun intended) with your progress.

Harsh, thought it was 100 posts. I find it so hard to be constructive in a place where everyone knows so much more than me ;)

I leave between 10-20 mins between each coat. The case was sprayed on its feet - standing up as it would do (the bottom wasn't sprayed). For some of the coats I put it on its side or reversed it to get at difficult areas.

Preparation is important for spraying so this is what I do for each panel:

1. Lightly sand the surface with grade P120 gritt/sand paper.
2. Rub down the surface with a clean cloth to remove any dust.
3. Apply a thin layer of primer (1 coat).
4. Apply first layer of paint after primer has dried (10mins). This first coat needs to be just a thin blast once all over (important).
5. Apply each coat with a horizontal movement.

Give the cans a good shake before you use them and get yourself a bowl with warm water in and leave the can in there for 10mins to heat up the can slightly. Before the next coat shake the can for 10 seconds and then apply the coat.

Follwing those guidelines you shouldn't have any problems really, just spray in a well ventilated environment - preferably outside when its not windy.

cheers really helpfull just one more question would a electric sander do the job fine with the right paper on ?

Small update, this is where I'm up to so far - just need to find something to protect the paint. It seems to chip rather too easily:

Some paints take up to a week or two to fully harden. Up until then, the paint can feel quite soft/chip easily.

Did you apply a clear coat?

Hi Mish,

Is just a strong clear varnish that protects the paint. :)

I've used it before and it does a good job. Don't know if you can get satin finish version though? :(

My jobs have always had a high shine!

Looks really good Mish, you can be proud of that.

With that white interior, Sharkoon fans would look really good:-

Thanks gt, I'll look into that - my girlfriend's dad is a carpenter and has major discount at this warehouse so I can get some cheap stuff :) I'll take a look over weekend.

Hadn't thought of that Melbourne, thanks. Will go nicely with the colour scheme I have going on as well. Great idea. That bottom fan on the front is a blue LED Yate Loon, and im having a kama bay in the bottom 3 optical drive bays with another blue LED Yate Loons. I hope it looks good when I finally get round to transferring all my hardware across. :)
