PS(PC)VR 2, anyone interested?

I’ll do more testing but first impressions of PSVR2 on my PC is “WOW the colours!!!” This is compared to my G2 and Quest 3.
I honestly don’t notice a problem with all this sweet spot, lens type stuff people go on about. When I replaced my Quest 2 with Quest 3 it seemed slightly clearer maybe that’s all. Other than that it was just the colour pass through that feels like an upgrade (Q2 to Q3).
I do though notice the mura on the PSVR2 so will have a play with brightness settings. Maybe I’ll not notice the mura after a while of using it

I had a psvr2 before but returned it. I'm trying again and the new headset has WAY less mura. There is mura, then there is the oled filter sony added to the panels so sometimes people mistake the two.
Whatever it is, the headset I have now is much better. Yes you can still see it, but it's not annoying at all.

Colours, blacks and brightness are insane though. I've had to lower brightness down to 50% and even that is still a bit too bright for me.

The biggest difference, or wow factor is when you are playing a racing game and the race is at night. The lights in the cockpit are something else. They actually look real.

First impressions are this is the most uncomfortable headset I have ever worn, and that's before I've even had a chance to try it as the controller batteries are dead and need charging so I can update the firmware.

It just keeps slipping forward. I've just tried a tube scarf on my head which makes it more stable. I can see I'd need the globular cluster kit to make it comfy.

At first I thought the samerhing. I then noticed the other button on top so you can pull the headset away from you and tighten at the back.

Edit
The batteries dead on delivery is a strange one. Never bought something before with a bettery and it was completely dead.

I thought all devices with a battery should be charged to a point not full and not dead for storage.

I got it up and running, as I'm wearing glasses I've had to be very careful as I can't really dial the lenses right in (in fact I stuffed some foam at the edges to prevent my glasses getting too close to the lenses).

I also managed to get it semi comfortable.

First impressions of the display is fresnel lenses really suck compared to pancake lenses, but hopefully when I get some lens protectors and eventually prescription lenses I'll be able to fully dial in the faceplate and get the sweet spot larger.

The colours and brightness are amazing, but the image isn't as sharp as the Quest Pro despite the higher resolution (pentile subpixel layout and a diffusion layer I expect). The persistence is a bit annoying - the image blurs slightly when I turn my head. I did try dropping the brightness a bit to see if that made a difference, but it seemed the same.

Mura is pretty evident in dark scenes - a sort of greyish haze, it's just as annoying as the local dimming bloom on the Pro, but maybe I'll get used to it.

I briefly tried three games:

Metro Awakening, HL Alyx and Skyrim VR.

The darkness and contrast in Metro looked incredible, but the mura did spoil it somewhat. HL Alyx looked very vibrant but not as sharp as the Quest Pro, and the same for Skyrim, though I didn't try any areas which are normally bad for compression on the Quest Pro.

The controllers are ok, a bit large and feel unbalanced. The grip button is a button and not analog. The haptic feedback is very strong though.

The earbuds are surprisingly good. Very loud.

Overall I didn't have the 'wow' factor like I had when I tried my Quest Pro in Skyrim for the first time, mainly because it just isn't as sharp, a small sweet spot, and the persistence and mura are a bit distracting. But that's also tempered by not being able to relax and enjoy it as I was being really careful due to my glasses.

For me the PSVR2 is a keeper. As I don’t have prescription lens yet so used daily contact lenses. Not the best focal distance for VR but ok.
I dialed down the brightness slightly just to see if the mura lowered. Not sure if it did.
I played Aircar first. Set it to 120Hz and could crank up the total res to 160%. I have steam global render at 100% and then set the per application to whatever keeps framerate solid. Used fpsvr app to check total res. and framedrops etc. Looked gorgeous.
Also tried Alyx and After the fall. Both looked very good. Yes when you look for it you see the mura but after a minute or so of playing if just ‘disappears’.
Now to try RE7 and some sims.

Oh it's nowhere near the sharpness of the quest pro or 3. This is harder to run than a quest 3 by some margin whilst having the sharpness of a quest 2.

There are other positives though.

I didn't have any framerate problems, but then I do have a 4090FE. :D

Also I suppose there's no encoding overhead, which might reduce the overall GPU power needed compared to a Quest Pro

I've just ordered some prescription lenses, as I think it's a decent headset, at least for some games. It's certainly very lightweight too which is nice. Reminds me of my old CV1 in that regard. I'll probably get the Globular Cluster kit too.

Now to sell my Index as this I really don't need another wired headset now.

Quest Link 5408x2896 = 15.66m
Quest 3 Virtual Desktop 2064x2208 (3072x3216)x2 = 19.75m
PSVR2 2000x2040 (3400x3468)x2 = 23.58m

I've had to lower my in-game settings from high to medium as was unable to hold a steady 90fps. Quite a difference from running quest over link cable.

One weird thing is about after an hour of faffing about with the headset, suddenly it just fell into the correct position and was comfortable. Up until that point it just didn't sit right. I still ordered the Globular Cluster kit, as I want to dial in that sweet spot.

With a 4070, and the choice between a PSVR2 (which I have) or a Quest 3 (which I don't but ignore the price addition), which would offer the better overall experience for seated VR - mainly racing/flight/space games.

I have both. It may be a bit of having a new toy to play with but currently I’d prefer to use PSVR2. Yesterday I tried Automobolista 2, Dirt 2.0, and Asseto Corsa (with loads of visual mods).
If the mura on the PSVR2 doesn’t annoy you then that outweighs the compression artefacts you get over USB IMO. I’ve done high bitrate wireless (WiFi 6e) and wired and it’s nearly gone but the track is still mush which is what you look at 95% of the time.
I’ve not tried MS flight sim or DCS yet

ooff, I have both

I'm going to say Quest 3. It's the lenses!

Space games though, well.....PSVR2 has those amazing blacks

Get the quest and send it back if you don't like it

Personally I think if I had to chose one, I'd choose the Quest Pro, as it's the best PCVR compromise between PSVR2 and Quest 3 (and I have all 3).
I wouldn't recommending buying one though unless you can get it for a good price.

Really the Q3 is the best all-rounder.

Now if the PSVR2 PC support gets updated to add eye-tracking then that'd make it huge for high-end sims.

The biggest issues with the PSVR2 for me are the small sweet spot and the mura.

I played Half-Life Alyx for the first time today. This was my first experience with VR with the PSVR2, and I am blown away by it.

The number of interactions and the gunplay are super cool. My only issue with VR is the blinking. I know there are other methods to move about, but I was feeling a little strange. It's like your body is expecting you to walk; it's really sickly.

Agreed, half-life Alyx is great, I also agree about the movement.
I am fine with the blink method, but felt wobbly when trying the to move with the controller.

I just slowed down my movement speed, took everything slowly and this was better for me.
