PS3 Price Drop

Didn't the original Xbox get a pretty big price drop within a month or so of launch? So did the N64 if I remember correctly?

yes, official ones. not shops trying to offload stock because they can't sell it.

with a rumble controller.

if they do introduce a rumble controller to the market then i think it would come with GT5, they did the same back with GT1.
not sure if they launched it with GT1 but they definately advertised it heavily to correspond with the launch of the game

I was told the EU ps3's can't run PS2 & PS1 games, so i have been misinformed? :O

Your largely correct.

Yes. The euro PS3s will play most PS1/PS2 games. There is a compatibility list here:

http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/

It doesn't play most, theres over 10,000 ps2 games remember and the few it does play mostly have glitches and errors to various degrees.

And thats after taking this advice.

"To have the best experience when playing your PlayStation®2 titles, we recommend that:

1. You avoid connecting any non-essential USB peripherals to your PS3
2. You avoid the use of "60Hz" and network modes (which may experience noticeable graphical corruption not present in the main game)
3. You should skip optional FMV sequences (a small number of games have graphical corruption in one or more video sequences).
4. A maximum of seven players can play (non-network) multiplayer PS2 games.
"

It's very poor when the pc can emulate 99% of ps1 games at 1600x1200 resolution with tons of graphics enhancements.

I guess i must have been mistaken about $150 compensation for damage to PC's caused by the rootkits in CDs.

Yes damage not the same as a drop in price, they only refunded people because they legally had to.

Ill buy one when the price is nearer £300 :)

Waited 12 months to get a 360 and its definitely a good buy, but i only paid £210 with 2 controllers and quite a few games etc and I thought that was still expensive so I definitely wont be buying it for this price, but hope the price does drop!

Will places that normally accept NUS cards for 10% off work on PS3 or not? As it would make it £360 which would be more tempting!

The first rumble game was Apocolypse with Bruce Willis IIRC.

For me I would rather actually see some games get released that I want to play on the PS3. The only one I'm remotely interested in is Ninja Gaiden Sigma but its nowhere near worth forking out £425 to play a remake of a game Ive completed many times on the Xbox already :/

I am also interested in God of War 3, which hasnt been announced but it would be stupid of them not to make it since its one of their best selling games, plus is was left on a massive cliff hanger so Im sure it will be made. Problem with this game is that we wont see it till atleast mid-late 2009.

So even if they do drop the price its still not going to get me to buy one no matter how much it comes down.

Sony fail :(

I heard the american versions play ps2 games perfectly, or is this another rumour. If it's true ill be shipping me one from there.

I don't want the crap in the 60GB version. Gimme a 20GB version with the half decent controller for £300 and I'd be happy :)

There are approx 2,500 Pal PS2 games with at the moment about 1,700 working ( higher % than the 360 does). The 10,000 games included all the Japanese versions of games never released in pal regions, these games you would not of been able to play even if they had kept the EE in as those games are region locked to Japan. Only PS3 games are multi-region, there are some obvious PS2 games that should work under emulation but don't, hopefully that will change. Hope that helps clear up some points.

Why does the 360's backward compatibility have anything to do with what the PS3 can and cant do? Its the same with Sony attack the competition rather then promote your own product (not saying you are attacking anything just to make it clear :p)

The problem isnt over how many games do and dont work, its the fact that the EE chip was included in the first place for the US and Japan then it was removed for the European launch and as usual its always Europe that gets the short end of the stick be it over release dates or price. Even after having to wait 4 months longer then everyone else we also have to wait even longer before we can play our PS1/PS2 games and eventually remove the PS2 from our setups completely. To put it short we wait longer, pay more and get less.

Wierd isn't it? I started a thread purely about the PS3 and it's price and somehow the 360 vs PS3 debate fires up. Maybe I should have left the Elite out of it!

I want both goddamn it!!!!!

anyone wanna buy a Wii? :D
