PS4 and Xbox Rumours

yeah like the uk :P

seriously though, a new next gen console is going to be round around $400-$500 when it ships, then you have the fact you will need a hdtv with hdmi in. some how not having a internet connection seems a tad mute.

piracy is practically non existent on ps3 though, it took them years to hack it with the help of the jailbreak kid, but was quickly patched to fix the leak.

Not that I want to turn this thread into piracy talk but the latest sony firmware (4.30 i believe) was hacked not long ago allowing you to install games and play them without the disc in.

Surely you cannot allow the console to be connected to the Internet while taking advantage of this exploit. For me that would make the PS3 worthless, I do everything online, from downloading PS+ content, to using Netflix and playing MP games. I couldn't imagine forcing myself to have it offline only for the sake of not swapping a disk occasionally.

Yeah, but the amount of people that bother with it is tiny. I know loads of people who've had every console exploited in some way over the years, and the new consoles are just too much hassle, and some what limited without PSN or Live.

Infact out of all my friends, I know 1 person with it done. And he rarely turns it on and opts to play using his unmodified PS3. :D

Thing is, you know a subset of people who happen to opt not to hack their console. I know a large subset of people who do. Piracy is a problem for Sony now, it isn't as big as Microsoft but it is still there. You can't accurately say the problem is big or small based on the tiny subset of people that YOU know.

When I said it was tiny, I meant in comparison to piracy on anything before, or any other medium at present.

I wasnt really saying my 1 friend was a scale of things with regards to the state of piracy, I was just pointing out the possible reason behind it being so small. He uses the unmodified system as it gives him PSN access.

Main reason he uses the other system is yet to be released games, etc.

you dont have to go that extreme - I live in Central London and would happily have/pay for a 20-30mb internet line, but the best I can hope for for some time is an 8mb line that actually peaks at around 2

The amount of time these forums freeze on me due to the line makes thinking about playing games online unrealistic - and remember Im in Central London.

It would take me a while to save up for the next console its true, but even so it would be worth it to play offline (depending on the games of course).

Why is everyone so bothered about backwards compatability?

i would prefer backwards compatibility but in all honesty i got a launch day ps3 and the only ps2 game i ever played on it was FFXII.

i think its a good way using your new console once the mediocre launch titles are finished and your in the 6-12 month wait for the next batch of games.

its a nice thing but i will hold onto my PS3 once i get a PS4 for atleast a bit and more then likely make it a bedroom bluray player

The big question for me is, will the PS4 support PS2 backward compatibility? The thought ot software emulation of that isn't too far fetched.

Reason this matters to me is that I do rather frequently replay 'the classics'. At present I have a PS2 and PS3 under the TV, if the PS4 doesn't support PS1/2 games I'll then have to keep all three there when there's barely enough room as it is.

I suppose it could support PS2 games via the PlayStation Store. There's really no chance of it supporting disc-based PS2 games though.

the average pc can cope with a ps2 emulator so software emulation isnt completly out of the question. i doubt ps3 backwards compatibilty would work due to moving from cell to pc architechture

I imagine the new console could handle it, but I dont see Sony putting development time into it. Not when it would be easier to just allow the PS1\PS2 games on PSN to run.

But yeah, PS3 BC just wont happen.

Who's your service provider?

Hmmm, that would frustrate me just the same as I have a huge catalog of PS2 games. I'm not willing to repurchase them so if they indeed don't bother implementing disc based emulation it will be three Sony consoles under the TV then!

The ideal scenario for me would be both disc and PSstore emulation, allowing both physical and digital formats to be played. It's a far fetched desire though...

... however it's what they've done with the PS1 on the PS3 i suppose (both disc and digital mediums being supported), so not all hope is lost i guess

I liked one of the comments for that article -

Player trying to play the new xbox 720:

Press on: "Please connect the Kinect camera. We need to verify you are the owner."

Player then tries to play game: "Please connect to internet so we know where you are... and verify you are the owner."

Player then tries to play online: "Please pay 50$ for a Live subscription."

Player then tries to play online: "Please pay 50$ for you have a second hand copy of this game."
