PS4 and Xbox Rumours

Well, bearing in mind we've seen Sony's offering, it's very easy to appraise. If a company the size of Microsoft can't beat what Sony have announced, somethings gone seriously wrong.

IMO, Sony are the only people that have lost the plot - they're aiming at Indie games and sharing videos etc... how incredibly uninteresting.

The gaming press (and public) were mostly very impressed with Sony's announcement though.

The lack of any actual hardware to show off was silly, and won't be a mistake that MS will make I imagine. The games line-up so far was solid enough, and like MS, they'll be announcing games at E3 so we'll get a bigger picture of what they'll both be offering.

I personally don't care who beats who, and I'm not sure why anyone would. I buy a console for the games and features, not to fly a flag as a loyal member of a fanboy brigade.

My PS3 was good for 3 games - MGS, Killzone and Uncharted.

MGS is now on Xbox.

I did also have Gran Turismo and LBP... but they were both frankly quite boring.

It doesn't sound like Sony have any big games up their sleeves to change this.

And with Windows / Phone 8, they can tie everything together nicely in a consistent looking interface. Something which Sony don't have either.

I'm curious as to why you think that's important?

The 360 dashboard was nothing like the Windows UI, and I don't remember anyone wishing it was?

Convergence. That's the direction the entire gaming / communications industry is going in.

Much like the cloud, people want their devices to have one consistent and understandable user interface. They want connectivity between devices, i.e. Play a game on your xbox and continue it on your phone.

Like with SmartGlass - that's useful as a secondary controller within games, providing more information to the player, using their existing devices.

Sony don't have this.

i have smartglass on my nexus 7 and frankly it's pant's and nothing more than a gimmick, much like all this kinnect, eyetoy, wii rubbish. Sony have excellent games and so does microsoft thus again i'll probably end up with both as i do now.

On the contrary - every PS4 game is going to playable on a Vita. Microsoft don't have that.

True, but the install base for the Vita doesn't compare to tablets / phones.

Also, if the Vita doesn't actually ever get any worthwhile games, it's going to struggle to improve that.

I've had my Vita since launch (it's actually the only console i've ever regretted buying), and the only game i've got is uncharted. It's a little pathetic when games like Nova 3 on the iPhone are far more interesting to play and graphically better than the best that Vita offers.

People want to play a low-resolution simplified version of the game on their phone, rather than the full version on their console? Right.

I don't think that's the case myself, but given that all anyone can do for the next two days is guess about what the next Xbox will be capable of, it's a redundant argument anyway.

No but Playstation certified tablets will no doubt be able to do such stuff.

TBH, even in the very unlikely event of the new Xbox being more powerful than the PS4, it's their market focus..casual gaming, shovelware kinnect enabled dross, that has made me lose all interest in Xbox as a brand...they're slowly but surely going down the Nintendo path.

It'll be PS4 and PC for me this time, Sony have set their stall out for the PS4 as gaming being the number one priority, everything else is secondary...the Xbox seems to treat gaming as an additional benefit to all the 'living room multi media hub' crap that the marketing suits want to shove down everyone's throat.

Agreed, MS have completely lost me, and the 360 was by far my most used console this generation.

Sony's focus on games, better exclusives and direction on subscription packages may mean I don't even buy the next MS console (it's a rarity that I won't own all the consoles), just like the WiiU.

I would be very happy to be completely proven wrong in 2 days time though!

Pretty much the same as me. As I mentioned earlier in this thread even if MS do play the core gamer card its a short term tactic to get to where they want to be (casual games, kinect and entertainment services) rather than actually having any invested interest in it long term.
